I understand. A while ago I realized that virtually every game I have played (18 out of 20) is also released on PS4. The PS5 version is just a higher resolution PS4 game. I almost sold off my PS5 since I still have my PS4 Pro.
This is a little strange to me. Why not just sell the PS4 Pro instead then? That way you can still play the PS5 only games and the PS4 games at higher res and fps. Why would you keep the PS4 Pro with its slow ass loading screens and menus/boot and not the PS5?

I was blessed and never grew up with any console wars growing up in the 80s/90s. I knew rivalries but that was between the companies. I played on PC 99% of the time then too so I was always better. But before they introduced online profiles and digital gaming, did people announce to their friends they were no longer gaming on a certain platform? Or is this just because of how weird people are now?

I guess this is the perfect example where "owning your games" makes sense ... you can get rid of them all at a discount and make some $ back

Stupid deal for the buyer, imo. If I'm taking all the risk then I'd want more in return. But maybe that's the going rate. Whole thing seems silly to me, but not my money thankfully

How would he get banned or whatever? The seller would have to report him I'm guessing.

Otherwise it just sounds like buying bunch of "used" games in bulk, which is good economics...

They announced this at recess standing on a table in front of dozens of their friends right before they were treated to a free wedgie and swirly.

I would think Sony has ways of detecting this stuff. Sudden change of email address, payment methods, everything. They can check IP location as well. Hell.....if a person has a friend list and then all of the sudden he isn't the same person, he could get reported by one of the original owner's friends. That's a lot of tracks to cover. OP ain't doing the buyer any favors by announcing this on a forum either. This is why I wouldn't waste my time with this nonsense personally.

I have been a PSN member for nearly a decade and had a decent Digital Library connected to my account. Lately Sony and the Playstation has just left a sour taste in my mouth. PS+ prices are absolutely nuts, There are very few good games releasing on the Platform, along with Sony has been anti consumer recently. Selling the PS5 next and rolling with the PC/Switch Combo. To be Honest, I could not tell you one game outside of GTA 6 (that may and probably get delayed to 2026) that I look forward too that is coming to the PS5. What happened to Sony and the Strong first party lineups? Now it's wasting time on doing shitty Horizon Zero Dawn remakes that nobody wanted. I predicted Sony would have a bad decade starting a year or two ago and it is not looking pretty for Sony.

If Valve decides to enter the race it's going to be a real problem but that is just speculation.

Bought a PSN account myself in 2016. Changed everything possible, never got banned. Sony does shit about scaIpers and even support it with their limited here limited there nonsense. I don't think they give a shit about account ownershipt, a paying customer is a paying customer.

Nice.

I didn't think they would but there are a few comments in here suggesting otherwise..

That would require resources... I don't think they care that much

I didn't suggest anything. I'm telling you why I wouldn't risk it.

We just had a guy here whose account was banned because he sold his PS5 without removing his account. So yes, there are resources checking on suspicious activity. I'm not suggesting folks don't get away with this stuff. If you want to believe everyone does then that is up to you.

Yeah but on PS5 you will play those games in 60fps. I couldn't go back to PS4...

Me either. Truly painful that PS4 had so many great games that only ran at 30fps. Only PS4 games I play anymore have to have been patched like AC: Syndicate

Cross generation is here to stay though and it makes all the sense in the world given those leaked MAU figures from the PS4 as well as the architectural similarities of the platforms. I'm with you on your sentiment as most games I play are available on PS4. I used to buy all hardware day one but I don't really see the need and the Pro consoles further muddy the water, especially with the lukewarm reception of the PS5 Pro.

I must ask (and apologies if it has been asked already later in this thread as I've only read a few replies on the 1st page) but how does 1 go about selling one's PSN account when we have email and passwords associated with it?

I'd guess you just create a throwaway email account and give the buyer the details

I did a double take when i read that he sold his ps5 away instead of the ps4 pro. Must be a made up story. It's just too incredulous.

And Gamer79 Gamer79 . You're approaching 46 and you need to come on to gaf to seek validation for selling away your ps5?

Iam 100% sure there is a psn store coming about in the future so this is a waste even if you switch platforms now.

I am not seeking any validation. Just stating my purpose. This is a place where we discuss all aspects of gaming right? To be honest this period in time is the worst I have seen in decades with poor game releases and developers taking the lazy remake route.

It's OK to make bad decisions. All you have to do is own the consequences. Looking forward to you coming back for HFW2.

Giddy up and get that wallet ready.

Whether it's PS5 or PC, Days Gone remaster is supposedly coming soon!

That sounds about right, it is the Sony way. Fans have been begging Sony to Make a proper remaster of a 60fps bloodbourne and Sony says, "Fuck off, we are going to remake Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone."

I would bet my life naughty dog has more uncharted/nathan drake in works, they’ll abuse remasters for good or bad (infamous), and I personally think 2 Grand Turismos, and 2 God of War games every generation is worth owning a PlayStation. It’s weird we haven’t even seen what Sucker Punch has, I know GG has a third horizon.

After seeing the new Naughty Dog trailer, this dude might be onto something….. As someone with 2 ps5 pros, I can’t see what Sony has for me in their ecosystem anymore. I enjoyed astrobot and gt7 but all their other studios? Ngl, the ps2 / ps3 / early ps4 Sony we knew might be cooked. This is wild.

Early PS4? So you've disliked Sony for about a decade and just now decided to leave the boat?
I dunno if it’s op being so dramatic or realizing that he’s no longer in the target audience for Sony…
What exactly is THE target audience of a company that publishes both Astro Bot AND Intergalactic?

How many Astro bot style games have been published by Sony? All I can say is that since Bruce Straley left naughty dog, I haven’t liked their games. The studio has been floundering imo.

As for the rest of the studios, I personally haven’t enjoyed insomniac’s games post miles morales. They’re just too formulaic. I did enjoy ghost of Tsushima. I did not enjoy ragnarok, mlb the show is floundering, i dislike horizon with a passion, and as for the other studios? Who knows what they’re doing.

It’s slowly becoming clear that the things I enjoyed from Sony are no longer present as they experience turn over in leadership. Shu is gone, Adam Boyes is gone, Kaz is gone. We can see the results with Hulst, Jim Ryan, Totoki and co. Less games, less risks, very profit oriented, more milking of consumers, increased costs. I mean you can still like Sony and recognize that they’re changing as an organization.

Lego Horizon came out last month. But my point was that simplifying it as 'the target audience' is dumb when Sony products appeal to several different demographics. It's why saying that you're not their 'target audience' anymore sounds so weird.

You're putting too much emphasis on these people and ignoring the current conditions of economics, development cycles, etc. Less games, increased costs, all of that would have happened under that leadership regardless of everything; Sony produced close to 50 games in 1999, they made a fraction of that 14 years later in 2013.
It's also kinda laughable that Adam Boyes is somehow more important than Andrew House in your eyes. What exactly did he do at all?

Lego horizons compared to astrobot? Are you having a laugh? If Sony products agrees to a set containing many demographics, it’s entirely possible that as the company’s direction shifts, your demographic may be removed from the set. There’s nothing weird about that at all.

People are the makeup of the company. The direction of any company follows the the direction of the leadership group. If that changes, so does the company. As for the development cost and cycles argument, it holds no water. All that’s happened between ps3 and now is self imposed scope creep. The games have gotten too long for their own good. PS3 TLOU took like 12 hours to complete. TLOU 2 took like almost 30 hours. Uncharted 1-3 took like 8-10 hours to beat. You got 3 in a generation and they were linear. Uncharted 4 took 15+ hours to beat and it was wide linear.

This same trend can be seen across other 3rd party games and can directly explain the increase in development time and cost. Astro bit was made in 3 years by 60 people and won goty. Can naughty dog make a game with 200-300 people in 3 years and win goty? They can’t in 2024.

We are talking about demographics, you know?

I'm entirely curious to know which kind of audience we're talking about here.

I'm telling you that the people who make up the company wouldn't be able to go against the inevitable economic reality challenging the growth of the segment. Believe what you want, but none of those would have been willing to keep eating hardware costs for PS5 four years after launch.
As for the development cost and cycles argument, it holds no water.
It definitely does, do you think Astro Bot in 2024 could have been made as quickly as Ape Escape 2 in 2002 with far less staff and budget?
Anyway, you will kinda have to agree with me that it's an unavoidable outcome no matter what, hence as I previously said, Sony producing in 2013 a fraction of its output in 1999.
