I could listen to Matt and Pat talk about TNG all day. And I don't think I've ever seen a full episode of any Star Trek series.

I also think it's weird that Pat dislikes/doesn't care for SH4 that much. I don't care much about SH in general, but I'd take the ideas of SH4 over the averageness of Origins theoretically if one we're to be LP'd. SH4 does so many weird things with the environment, holes, and the room in general that make it super interesting to me. The escort shit of it and unkillable ghosts though? Throw it out the window.

Kinda this. I feel SH4 was still a lot more interesting with the first/3rd person mix and the room getting more haunted and stuff. I also didn't really mind the unkillable ghosts, as you can pin most of them down and they supply some real tension whereas with most of the normal enemies a lot of the tension kind of disappears once you're decent at killing them.

Origins just seemed like: we have no new ideas, so here's the same thing again but not as good.

You should rectify that. Experiencing all the silly shit yourself is even better than hearing about it. Plus, you get to watch some of the best hard sci-fi cinema has to offer when it isn't being silly (for the most part, it has some rough spots).

Silent Hill 4 wasn't originally going to be 4, it was always intended to be SH, but it started as a spinoff, and I believe was in development during 3's development.

SH4 is a pretty cool horror game, not a very good SH. I get that Pat hates escort quests, but I'll take SH4 over Shattered Memories in the "good game even if it's not very SH" department. Hell I think Downpour at least tries, where Origins is just nothing.

After 4 they fired all of Team Silent, and so Origins onwards are made by an array of random teams.

If you've got Netflix or a Hulu Plus subscription, you can watch all of TNG remastered. That said, you should probably marathon all the good TOS episodes before that, especially if you plan to see DS9 afterwards.

I can confirm that attacking the dummy at the beginning of Undertale doesn't lock you out of the full pacifist route

Though yeah I think for your very first playthrough you should just follow your gut instincts and play how you want

While I agree that people should play Undertale without any exterior input, this type of game, or stuff like Bloodborne for example, can be the bane for let's players who rely on their trade to live. Because you still have to entertain an audience sufficiently to rake in views and whatnot and having a let's play where you aimlessly goof around is (usually) less entertaining to watch than something that's more condensed with good commentary that goes with it.

It's no one's fault really. I personally enjoy Matt and Liam's LP a lot. The other ones i'm watching right now are Dodger's (which is adorable) and the Game Grump one (Barry being blind and Ross helping out, although ross has the opposite problem where he'd backseat-play too much and would equally miss some stuff due to his haste to progress. Although he makes it up with great voice acting for papyrus !)

Main problem with undertale for LPs is that
if you go neutral and kill a few characters, you have to replay the game in full pacifist for the "True pacifist ending" and I don't see that being super viable for an LP unless you start editing like a mad man, and then it would still be rather convoluted, or you'd miss some dialogue portions and insights of when you redo a run

The choices of the let's player is full of hardships !

Unrelated, but what other channels can I folow on vessel, now that i got that free month running ?

Yeah I feel the same way regarding let's plays, I would hate for Matt and Liam to miss out on the true ending.

Though I agree with Woolie that a genocide run really isn't fit for the LP format

It doesn't actually.

Also play however you want Romars.

I would, but I'm caught between the way I want to play, and the way I want to roleplay.
Playwise, I want to explore all the mechanics. Roleplaywise, killing these silly flys and frogs feels kinda uncool at the moment.
I guess I'll keep being a pacifist.

If you're right then that's fine, but when I hear it from multiple differing sources I'm more inclined to believe them than just you, y'know?

I think he might be trying to 'unspoil' me, by telling me my pacifist run isn't off the table.
EDIT: Didn't see your post geg, okay then.

I tried playing 4, but I think I got about as far as Matt did (2-3 hours in). Partly because I didnt like your hooker companion as much as Maria, and the game controller like butts on M&K

I gotta say, I always found SH4's premise super interesting. Closest I came to jumping on the Silent Hill bandwagon back in the day was reading a synapse on 4. Too bad I was too much of a poobaby with horror back then.

I never cared for Star Trek, people always gave me the wrong impression about it. Beloved eventually made me watch TNG with her last year and it was utterly fantastic to watch all the way through, it has some dumb bullshit but alot of things about it were more competent and interesting than most SciFi things I've seen/played in recent years.

Also about MGS on Vessel.
Liam's forever incompetent gunjumping makes him colorblind and forgetful, unable to determine white from green when he's thinking a bunch of sleeping soldiers are prisoners that mysteriously become undetectable by D-Dog shortly after.
He always tries to play/navigate through games like someone who has been playing the game a thousand hours and knows it inside and out with their eyes closed, which would be fine if he were that experienced.

But since he is not actually that knowledgable and/or skilled, it just makes him look like an idiot when in reality he actually does have a good mind for games if he slows down a little bit, I'm not sure if he always thinks he has to rush because it's an LP or what, I would think if that were the reason, he would have seen by now that he is the only one who rushes and would stop it since it's perfectly fine to take his time.

Cranky is being tempted to play FF XIV (or so he says on twitter) and Pat the devilish snake is singing sweet promises in his eardrums.
Someone stop him quick ! I can't deal with more FF XIV talk and Pat's hate for cute potatoes D:

Which reminds me I need to resub to finish the heavensward plot

you should do that because GOD FUCKING DAMN THE END OF HEAVENSWARD IS SO GOOD, don't know if you're on our server and in the FC or not, but there's typically always people willing to help you finish. (and anyone will jump at the mention of doing the final boss fight because it's so good and gives them an excuse to do it again)

sweet so i guess were getting 2 days of 3 videos since undertale is tommorrow according to vessel
also finished Dead Space
thats a good ass horror game
now to beat the other 2 then play Hearts of Stone
edit:also yea play Heavensward
even though i quit FF14 the ending makes me not regret playing it

Is it bad that the video kind of unsold me on it? Just doesn't look like all that much fun.
You can play the demo yourself, but the game's really fun IMO. The movement's slick and feels great, the combat is intuitive, interactive, and leaves plenty of room for player optimization, and the game itself looks gorgeous. I've run the demo about four times now and I still really enjoy it.

I haven't watched it yet but I can't imagine an lp of the beginners guide being anything but fucking horrible. It's commentary of commentary

Hesitant to watch Beginner's Guide since it's probably one of the many games I should play myself before watching things on.

Good thing it's a one off extra video then.

to be fair i think Liam and Woolie are probably the best pair to tackle it

Also I love getting these glimpses onto their Steam stuff.

So the beginner's guide, as an "exposé", is pretty damn interesting and made me cogitate a bit. Mostly on what it's about. Spoilers for the following

What's interesting is that the theme swings wildly from beginning to end, and even post-game. At first it presents itself as some sort of documentary/biography on some introverted indie developper who makes these incomplete games for their own sake, and are then being decorticated by Davey in an almost obsessional way. It then turns into a peering into someone's heart where Davey extrapolates on Coda's behaviour and you start getting a narrative on depression. But Davey starts also talking more about him really than Coda. Near the end though is when the "twist" happen and you see Coda basically telling Davey to fuck off, stop tampering with his games and Davey himself proceeding to transform the whole thing into an apology instead.

Thing is that, looking back, there's too much obvious discrepancies for the work to even be considered biographica anymore. Davey mentions that Coda started adding lamp posts to his game while "Coda", in his last words, asks Davey to stop adding them himself. Also that Davey is misinterpreting all his stuff and whatnot. That and the whole shtick of doing unfinished games yet filling them with a shitload of details, to the point where it just seems too incoherent for someone as shut-in as Coda, and who apparently doesn't want to be diagnosed upon anyway if we trust that the last words are indeed "his".

Basically wondering if this whole thing is a meta commentary about the relations between developpers and players who try to seek larger meanings through the games they play and assign themselves to the product, or even try to overanalyse and assign a psychology or a lore to a game when it's not technically there.

And i know it's ironic that i'm saying that since i'm kinda doing exactly that right now. One thing is obvious to me anyway is that by the end of the presentation, it's no longer a biography

Also man has the comments under the videos gotten salty. It's like reading /v/. It's already not super happy here, but I didn't realise the fanbase got so bitter lately

Can't say I've been enjoying any of their vids for awhile now, I don't care for MGSV and Danganronpa as LP's. Their current Shitstorm vids is watchable, but even then some of the PC indie games that they played have been duds.

I've been feeling the same way. I haven't finished a full video in a while

Boy I can't wait for their current LP's MGSV and Danganronpa to finally end. The views numbers speak a lot about people's interest in them in the channel.

I agree with the apathy. DR has been a disaster and MGSV is a dud. Shitstorm has been great with a few duds but this is usually the case anyway.

This beginners guide thing seems like something I should play myself. I always feel like choices like this must impact their views.

Can we have a vessel spoiler thread ;) lol

After reflection, I am still unsure myself if i actually like or not the beginner's guide. On one hand part of the narrative I like, on the other hand I feel like some extreme manipulation is going on.

Eh, I think the DR LP is getting a bit better at least. It had a trash-tier low point, but it's kind of evened out IMO. It's not entirely their fault that the game was dragging, though it was getting annoying how they switched to Japanese and then right when the character whose English voice they couldn't stand (a major motivating factor for the switch) started talking, they literally started talking the second his VA was talking. It was almost like they were doing it on purpose, because right when the VA stopped they stopped, and when the VA started talking, they decided to talk again!!

I still can't understand Matt's ability to not look at anything important going on while playing games. People are talking, but I'll just stare at this door instead. None of these doors open, but also I haven't tried opening any of them. Oh look a woman I could easily open a door and talk to, but I'll go over here first.

Edit- Pat- "You have a remarkable ability to turn around away from cutscenes." He voiced the same line pretty much during SH Downpour too. It's truly amazing.
