SDCC: Last of Us movie announced.

Bad feeling about this. But maybe that's just me wishing to put TLoU in a bubble and protect it from any subpar spinoffs that will tarnish its image.

These tweets from a few months ago apparently weren't nothing:

Raimi is saying his mitts will be all over the project but Neil Druckmann and the director will have the final call on casting and choices.

Inb4 "a movie about a movie" jokes.

Honestly, a movie would only show how weak TLoU story / argument is, and how much the greatness of the game is dependant on its well executed atmosphere.

It's going to be very, very hard to make this right, mainly because I don't know how you recast the roles of Joel and Ellie and not have it somehow be worse. I still say Josh Brolin is the best fit for Joel but Ellie? I don't think the girl who plays Arya fits, well at least not the way she portrays the character in GoT anyways.

Ehhhhhhhh. I really don't think this is gonna turn out well. The whole point of TLOU is that it's a slow build in a meaningful relationship through gameplay and conversation. Once you take out the gameplay and the slow (the 15-20 hour playtime) build, it's just another movie. The plot is actually quite generic. I was hoping that this would be another one of those "it's a movie that will be made...sometime...maybe...probably not" things, but I guess it's actually happening. Bleh.

Another movie game from Sony.

I do hope these movies based on games work out for Sony rather than be the usual crap movies based on videogames.

If she doesn't want to hurt her career she'll say no. Video game movies never turn out good.

Video game movies are rarely (if even ever) written by the person who wrote the game.

It however remains to be seen whether or not Neil can write a film. Since it's harder to write a fleshed out video game, I think he has a good shot at this being a well written movie.

I don't know how I feel about Bruce Campbell playing Joel.......

I don't see why not, she's playing Arya to perfection on GoT and Arya and Ellie are characters that have a lot in common.

I don't think he is exactly wrong.

Can you expand on that? People usually react to statements like that because it's a blanket criticism and really doesn't seem to have much thought behind it.

I hope Bruce Willis drops out. I'm tired of his sourpuss face, and this (video game adaptation) sounds exactly like the kind of stuff he half asses for a paycheck.

Edit: wait, wrong Bruce?! FUCK YEA
