SHOCKING: 'Free' Fallout 4 season passes have been revoked

Hey, I submitted to obtain the free copy of fallout 4 season pass on PSN and just got an email saying sorry, we ran out, you get a static fallout theme. WtF? Is this a scam site? It never was a drawing and advertised that it was a season pass (which is why I gave them my contact info). Now I don't get shit, and now they have my info. This feels very much like a scam...

A literal bait and switch

Get fucking real, you self-entitled little digital shit.

One of the first rules of deal hunting: If it's a pricing error or exploit, it stands to reason it may not be honored.

As a frequenter of slickdeals and deal discussion threads, pricing errors and exploits are posted ALL the time. Never is it expected that the seller is obligated to honor the sale.

I didn't say it was equal to stealing. I tried to invoke the crazyness that, when something says $0, it is free, eventhough it is very obviously an error.

Every sane person would indeed go to the counter, where they were told it is an error, but such a thing does not exist with online purchases.

Ah, sorry. I'd seen other people calling it theft and made an assumption :(

But yeah, you're right. I don't know how anyone thought this transaction wouldn't be cancelled.

To many people to personally reply too, post looks like crap when doing it.

@ALL about "money back"

Sure they gave us back $0 since it was free, but some picked up the game along side the DLC (because of the DLC being $0), I hope we're allowed to cancel that sale too and get our money back if we so choose (without repercussion).

So wait you decided to buy Fallout once the season pass was glitched at $0.
And now expect a refund on the digital game because you duped yourself?

I remember being amazed last year when the Dying Light season pass thing happened with Gamestop, and we all got to keep our ill-gotten cheap copies of the game. I'd have been perfectly okay if they'd reversed it and said "Sorry, this was a mistake".

so you're saying with the same example of whats happened here, that BB should have given me 100 $50 giftcards for free when they had a messup? because i was able to get to the purchase part and to the processing transaction thing.... Thats not how it works.

As I said earlier in the thread, I don't have a degree in consumer or business law. I don't even know enough to know its proper name.

I do know that unless you had 100 separate PSN accounts then you wouldn't have been able to buy 100 season passes correct? So pretty big difference considering your analogy. That, and this is a single product, not essentially free currency to spend at a store. But more to the point, I never said anyone was entitled to anything, I said I haven't been shown an argument that properly explains to me why this is okay. Dollar for dollar, Rocksteady lost more money when I bought the Arkhma Knight complete bundle off amazon for $12 then Bethesda did here. Does the fact that I spent money period suddenly make this okay, and somehow legally binding in a way that kept them from negating my purchase and just refunding me? Would spending $1 on the season pass instead of it being free suddenly have be same effect and nothing could be done? I'm genuinely curious and I honestly don't know.

Yep, you win some, you lose some. Just part of the deal hunters game. In the end though, you never really lose anyways, as in a perfect system these errors would never exist.

Bethesda and Rocksteady lost nothing. Pricing errors are on the retailers' head. Their system or staff did the messing up.

Bethesda is only getting brought up because a number of people on GAF dislike them for various reasons. This is a Sony issue.

Gotcha, I figured but wasn't sure. I guess it's safe to assume since no money was actually involved, this was a lot easier for them to quickly revoke and sweep under the rug. I'm curious to what would have happened though of if went up for something like $1 or so, and what they would have done then.

I think it's an ok thing for Sony to do because there's no way the season pass was supposed to be free. Had it been a marked down price, say $20, then perhaps good will from Sony or Bethesda may have been the resulting action. As it stands it was up for free and maybe they felt the fallout
(lol....not lol)
from the fans who legit bought the pass may have been enough to get them to decide to revoke the free licenses.

When someone steals your credit card and makes illegal purchases, Sony takes that all sales are final stance to avoid any responsibility. It's funny how quickly they've managed to reverse all these season pass purchases.

Not that I think people who abused this glitch are entitled to anything, but I'd have more respect for Sony if they stuck to their guns on this issue out of principle and treated Bethesda like they do their customers.

If someone steals your CC, your bank has your back and they deal with Sony, not you.

This glitch is straight up pure and simple to prove who downloaded what when. There is no theft, no need to prove the CC was stolen, etc. This situation is unquestionably more simple that the scenario you created.

This really sucks from anyone who bought the main game of fallout 4 as a result of the season pass glitch. Will they be offered a refund on the main game?

Of course not. The people who did so received what they paid for, which is Fallout 4. Attempts to persuade Sony into obliging a refund request with language such as "I only bought the game because of the free Season Pass" are going to be laughed at.

Tell that to the people who've had their accounts banned and not being able to play any of their legit purchased digital games. Its one of sony's glaring issues.

I guess I should have stayed my position more clearly as well haha. I honestly have no problem with Sony doing this. You're right that it obviously wasn't meant to be free. When I got Drive Club for $2 or something of Amazon I wouldn't have been annoyed if that had been revoked either. Catching a pricing error and it working in your favor is a fun little occurrence, but nothing to get too worked up over.

I agree, if an actual monetary amount had been removed from someone's account there is a possibility that the situation may be different. I'm not convinced it would, but there would certainly be more to sort out re refunds etc which may have led to customers keeping their season pass

Yeah, Sony is really bad about that (and why I don't buy digital except if it is really cheap or the only option and not too expensive).

That being said, that really is irrelevant here. No one's account had stuff illegally stolen in this case. In fact no one was out any money from this case. Yeah people are disappointed but they really shouldn't have expected anything.

If you found a game lying on the ground it may be a great find. But would you refuse to give it back if some one came up to you and told you it was their game (and they had proof it was their game before some one says well how do we know they aren't lieing)? They dropped it and didn't realize it until after some one found their mistake. Would you really refuse to give it back?

Fuck me, I can't believe people genuinely think that they're entitled to keep it without it being reversed and that they're being mistreated because they can't.

"Gamers aren't entitled brats" they told me.
Also, all of your analogies are rubbish.

I don't think people are entitled to keep it, Sony is in their full right to revoke these Season Passes. My points personally were about how those who took advantage of this aren't "thieves" like some people try to point out, by claiming that a customer somehow has to concern themselves with store errors or anything like that. That's not their problem.

If they revoke a sale it wasn't final.

/end of discussion.

End of discussion? You can leave the conversation, but it's not over just because you say so. Guess what? Sony isn't required to create contracts that create mutual and equivalent rights. They can have sale be final for the customer, while reserving their right to revoke licenses. What they can do in contract is restricted by law, not your interpretation or concept of fairness.

The answers simple. Sony doesn't seem to always care about keeping their customers happy. Which applies in this threads topic case as well.

Not only did people get to keep their copies but they even got the season passes for free too on top of knowing that it was a glitch. They didnt have to do that and I'm amazed that they did.

so many greedy people on here. expecting compensation for nothing when it was a glitch and pricing error.

Sony has been good to me. their flash sales are some of the best deals in gaming.

i just hope the person who accidentally put the season pass for free didn't get fired for it. mistakes happen and it's perfectly acceptable to fix it.

And NO I'm not powerless, the BEST digital user you can be is one who care 0% about trophies and achievements etc, that way, one account one game is wonderful, that way you a lot of power to say UH-UH NO YOU DON'T with.

And that's.... all I will ever say about this, you'll be happy to know I'm leaving the thread after this post.

As of right now I've bought 15 games on the ps4 psn store (most of these are indie but a few AAA titles). Do you really think the response to the possibility that Sony doesn't issue a refund for a game is to have one account for each of these games? That's kind of a ridiculous argument to be honest. And I'm one of those that doesn't buy a lot of digital games, some people have gone full digital and buy so many more games than I have. For them the idea of having to keep up with dozens of different account logins and passwords and to have to sign in to a different account each time you want to play a different digital game (which partially defeats the purpose of the convenience of digital games) would be ludicrous.

I wouldn't say that would be "the best digital user" at all, more like the one that's terrified of a game company screwing them out of a refund so they take an extreme approach to counteract that possibility.

@ALL about "money back"

Sure they gave us back $0 since it was free, but some picked up the game along side the DLC (because of the DLC being $0), I hope we're allowed to cancel that sale too and get our money back if we so choose (without repercussion).

@All about sales are final.
Well either it is or it isn't, and apparently it isn't even though Sony claim it is.
I do not consider a sale final if you end up not having the item/product you were purchasing (price irrelevant) because they decided to take it back.

@ALL about the legal text in receipts getting banned etc

Well, YES I'm aware that corporations write crazy stuff and have a free pass (somewhat to do whatever they like).
And NO I'm not powerless, the BEST digital user you can be is one who care 0% about trophies and achievements etc, that way, one account one game is wonderful, that way you a lot of power to say UH-UH NO YOU DON'T with.

Yeah and enjoy your 400,000 accounts and associated passwords with that.

Probably one of the more stupid ideas I've seen floated 'round these parts.

^^ This is gold...

Also suprised at the amount of people that would just take a $60 game of the shelve and walk out of the store, without paying, simply because the pricetag wasn't stamped properly and therefor misses a 6...

It's a bit different than walking out of the store.

If the item is priced as zero, I go through the check out and it rings up as zero, but the retailer doesn't notice, then how is that the responsibility of the end user and not the retailer?

The only reason this was revoked is because digital licences can be revoked, but don't equate this with a mispriced item being lifted off a shelf - everyone went through the correct sale process for it. Had this been a case of a mispriced item in a store, people would be playing Fallout 4 DLC right now.

Don't they usually leave those copies be when they make an error like this?

A bit off topic but, when the Psn plus version of Driveclub came out they had an error where the full game upgrade plus all the dlc were free for a while. I managed to snag myself those and thanks to it i still regularly play Driveclub even though my psn has expired many times since then.

And the studio that makes drive club is closed.

v)We may choose to cancel or not to accept your order for any reason (including price errors).

From the terms of service we all signed up for on PSN. I'd say Bethesda told em to cancel the orders down to pricing errors and Sony did so as per the ToS

Undoubtedly. Aside from what has happened, there were two possible outcomes: Bethesda and Sony ignoring the error or Sony footing the 70% cut for each copy "sold" and ignoring its own 30%.

This thread, damn.

I'm just sad FO4 already killed any interest I had in the DLC :(. Unless one of the DLC releases actually manages to have an interesting story, that is. Main game was a fantastic experience for 30-40 hours or so but then fatigue kicked in and the story crumbled. Point Lookout was brilliant stuff though, I'm hoping for something like that.

people who try to take advantage of pricing errors and then complain about it are the worst. it happens in retail all the time. i remember when i was working one lady tried to get something that cost $200 for twenty bucks because the website left off a 0.
