SHOCKING: 'Free' Fallout 4 season passes have been revoked

To everyone saying no purchase took place - explain this!

Sony even tells me to print it and keep in a safe place for future reference! Sounds like at least they think it's an important and binding e-mail. But I guess the part they really want you to agree with is that there's no refunds.

Did you also read the terms of service that they say also apply with the purchase?

"SNEI (SONY NETWORK ENTERTAINMENT INTERNATIONAL LLC) RESERVES THE RIGHT TO LIMIT OR REMOVE THE AVAILABILITY TO STREAM OR RE-DOWNLOAD OTHER LICENSED CONTENT AT ANY GIVEN TIME WITHOUT NOTICE TO YOU."

Fuck me, I can't believe people genuinely think that they're entitled to keep it without it being reversed and that they're being mistreated because they can't.

"Gamers aren't entitled brats" they told me.
Also, all of your analogies are rubbish.

So all sales are NOT FINAL, thanks... That's what we all needed to know.

Dead SONY STFU about all sales are final if they are not.

So what about the countless times Amazon or Best Buy has had ludicrous pricing errors like being able to buy Arkham Knight digital PS4 complete edition for a fraction of the price?

Eh?
Is PSN identical to Amazon and Best Buy and have to follow their policies following a pricing error?

Dude, games industry isn't a charity, you can't rake a company over the coals just because they are fixing a mistake they made (which would also have cheated fair buying pass owners).

I see this as totally fair as a consumer and if I was a suit I'd do the same not to piss off Bethesda, Sony and current pass owners depending on my position.

Everyone that took advantage of the glitch should receive this gif as a PSN Message. :p

That would be the perfect result from this

It is mind blowing. They paid nothing, they are entitled to nothing.

what's worse is it seems to have completely fucked up the store in terms of buying the season pass. not that i want to of course...but it's still listed as purchased and my only option is to "download to PS4" no "buy" options at all.

I think they've fixed this too actually. Last night the season pass came up as 'purchased' for me on the website, but today I notice that it's listed as normal with an option to purchase it. My guess would be that they've expired the license for anyone who got it for free, and then reset the store listing for them too (otherwise, like you say, they wouldn't be able to purchase it at a later date).

lol. It'd certainly be a keeper!

I can imagine it going down like this for some people:

-"Can't wait for my free muthafuckin Fallout 4 DLC! What luck! LOL Suckers!"

-"Wait... I got a message?" *Message from Playstation*

-*clicks to open*

Ha ha! If only the .gif had a "motherfucker" on the end.

still broken here for me. both on the PS4 and on the website.

Hey, I submitted to obtain the free copy of fallout 4 season pass on PSN and just got an email saying sorry, we ran out, you get a static fallout theme. WtF? Is this a scam site? It never was a drawing and advertised that it was a season pass (which is why I gave them my contact info). Now I don't get shit, and now they have my info. This feels very much like a scam...

A literal bait and switch

I understood that reference.

If something is taken away from me without giving me my money back its theft/fraud or whatnot.

Nah. You "purchased" a license to use their services agreeing to some conditions, and they revoked that license as outlined in those conditions.

Might not like it, but these are the terms. Though your indignance would be more justified if you had legitimately bought something instead of exploiting a technical error.

^^ This is gold...

Also suprised at the amount of people that would just take a $60 game of the shelve and walk out of the store, without paying, simply because the pricetag wasn't stamped properly and therefor misses a 6...

man Afro Samurai didnt see this level of complaints when it was taken down + refunded. (and you cant even play that anymore iirc) This fits in line with when BB stopped those free $50 giftcards that happened a while back from the online store.

Not according to the agreement you clicked "okay" on to be allowed to purchase from their store. They can cancel any license for anything at any time should they so choose. Are they going to do that without cause at random? Almost certainly not. But they can do that if they so choose and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Some time ago, there was an "exploit" on the Nintendo e-shop that made it possible to get Wii U games for dirt cheap by creating a Russian account and buying games with their conversion rates.

I took advantage of this, and bought the following:

Super Mario 3D World
Mario Kart 8
Super Smash Bros.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Hyrule Warriors
Hyrule Warriors season pass
Hyrule Warriors costumes
Pikmin 3 DLC
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Pullblox World
Art of Balance
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario Kart
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 2
Donkey Kong Country 3
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Kirby Super Star
Mega Man
Mega Man 2
Golden Sun
Golden Sun: The Lost Age

I even sold the physical versions I owned of some of these.

Now hypothetically, if Nintendo revoked my access to all of these and refunded me what I paid for them, I'd obviously be disappointed, but I wouldn't be angry, as I knew when I bought them it was an exploit and that could potentially happen. I wouldn't act like I was entitled to them, so you lot have absolutely no excuse here whatsoever. You haven't paid jack shit.

It's a good thing i don't need refunding then isn't it :) .

The point is, either Sony or Bethseda fucked up, one of them should foot the bill.

They usually have T & C's for pricing errors or glitches. You'd probably need to check the PSN T & C's but I wouldn't be surprised otherwise they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

To many people to personally reply too, post looks like crap when doing it.

@ALL about "money back"

Sure they gave us back $0 since it was free, but some picked up the game along side the DLC (because of the DLC being $0), I hope we're allowed to cancel that sale too and get our money back if we so choose (without repercussion).

@All about sales are final.
Well either it is or it isn't, and apparently it isn't even though Sony claim it is.
I do not consider a sale final if you end up not having the item/product you were purchasing (price irrelevant) because they decided to take it back.

@ALL about the legal text in receipts getting banned etc

Well, YES I'm aware that corporations write crazy stuff and have a free pass (somewhat to do whatever they like).
And NO I'm not powerless, the BEST digital user you can be is one who care 0% about trophies and achievements etc, that way, one account one game is wonderful, that way you a lot of power to say UH-UH NO YOU DON'T with.

And that's.... all I will ever say about this, you'll be happy to know I'm leaving the thread after this post.

For this analogue to work they would have to check out and be given a receipt.

Sony are absolutely in the right with what they're doing, but equating someone "buying" a license at the marked price through the proper means with stealing is a bit much. Someone at Sony messed up. The people who took advantage of the price followed the correct legal process. Once Sony realised the mistake, they cancelled the purchase (as it's a preorder, no goods have actually exchanged hands). There's a reason why Sony are only revoking the license and not imposing bans.

1- It's really hard to prove intent here, and if you bought the game based on exploiting a pricing glitch, it's on you

2- The sale itself was arguably not a valid sale due to it being a glitch, so you're on shaky ground here

3- uhhh ok

lol, maybe if you play 2 games per year. Otherwise it's neither convenient nor feasible (pretty sure you can't have dozens of accounts on one console).

Also, did you ever charge back more than once? I'm pretty sure at some point they will just ban your credit card ;)

I've seen more people in this thread chastising people complaining about this and calling them "cheap", "theives", and "entitled", than I have people actually complaining about their passes being revoked. I've also yet to see an reasonable argument defending this decision other than, "you should have to pay for it, you're stealing". There is an interesting discussion here regarding how fast they handled this compared to the speed they rectify an issue regarding a customer, or the "finality of sales" angle. It just keeps getting derailed.

I didn't say it was equal to stealing. I tried to invoke the crazyness that, when something says $0, it is free, eventhough it is very obviously an error.

Every sane person would indeed go to the counter, where they were told it is an error, but such a thing does not exist with online purchases.

Okay I know this will sound outlandish because it's. But imagine someone at Beth who planed this with someone at Sony knowing the company would revoke the access to increase Fallout sales from people who bought it because of this free season pass..

Writing my fiction paper as we speak.

so you're saying with the same example of whats happened here, that BB should have given me 100 $50 giftcards for free when they had a messup? because i was able to get to the purchase part and to the processing transaction thing.... Thats not how it works.

You're an idiot if you bought the base game just because of this. You should have known that this could potentially happen. If you did, then you took a calculated risk, and can't complain. And if the possibility of the season pass being revoked didn't even cross your mind it, then you're a naive fool.

I don't even see an argument in there. Just bitching. You even acknowledge that companies write "crazy stuff" (though I think you'll find the proper phrase is "Terms & Conditions", to which which you agreed).

Who would actually be stupid enough to buy the game because you got a "free" season pass. It's your own fault for not waiting to see if they'd revoke it, which they were obviously always going to do.
