I am going to be honest, after trying the demo, I honestly don't think I want the game that much at launch. I just didn't really enjoy it. I have enough games to play that I think I'll pass for now.
Honestly, I feel the same way. I'm not surprised with these 4/5 reviews after playing the demo.

Some of the criticism for the 1UP review are quite specific and definitely make sense.

-Harp is shit
-Fetch quests suck.
-Spirit realm challenges are tedious.

Those all sound like legit game design issues.

LOL at the first comment for 1UP's review:

Don't be this guy, GAF. Just don't.
Agree with 1 and 2, 3 is no way. I fucking loved those things. Tense as hell.

The Siren/Spirit Realm has always seemed like a bad idea to me, and sadly that seems to be the case.

Why the developers feel the need to put these things in Zelda games I'll never know. Though hopefully they are actually fun, like Feep says, and not like the TP dark world.

here is my review:

It's a Zelda Game (thats the biggest compliment a game can get)
So... 3/5, right?

Were the fuck are the other reviews? people didn't finished it before deadline? review copys came too late?

I pretty much expected reviews to be in a wide range.

Not everyone is a fan of motion controls and everyone is going to have varying opinions on it. The only bad part of reviews is more footage/details get leaked and I don't want to know anything, so I just look at the scores and shrug.

I still don't understand the Giantbomb review.

You're not alone, nobody does, because it basically doesnt make any fucking sense. I think he was trying to be 'deep' or something, so in the process mangled the english language, and made twists of logic to come up with some bullshit 'identity crisis' theme. He basically knocks it because although its the freshest Zelda ever- its still Zelda.

It was a concern of mine as well. Hopefully it isn't an issue, like Feep said.

I also have reservations about the dowsing/first-person mechanic.

Twilight Realm sounds like, completely different though. Don't know where you got that idea.

This is so fucking awkward.

Skyward Sword is still an incredible adventure, even by the high standards of this series, with characters and dungeons worthy of the Zelda name. But while the developers made a conscious effort to shake things up with new ideas and implementations, the game falls into a weird middle ground filled with genuine surprises, inessential carry-overs, and copy/paste quest structures. That said, I still believe this to be one of the more admirable chapters of the series, even if at times it feels the developers were unsure of which sacred cows to keep and which to sacrifice.

Oh boy.

EGM:

SUMMARY: Skyward Sword has all the elements of a spectacular Zelda tale, but poor controls prevent this from reaching an Ocarina-like level.
THE GOOD: Classic Zelda elements remind us of 25 years of greatness
THE BAD: Poor motion controls remind us of 5 years of flailing futility
THE UGLY: The hole in my living-room wall after throwing the Wiimote through it in frustration

wow. WOW.

From what I'm reading, the biggest issue seems to be with the quests. The motion controls are being praised for the most part.

If I were running a gaming site, I'd submit the following quote:

"Good enough that it fulfills our requirements for the milestone review we were planning."

Man... that EGM review...

THE GOOD: Classic Zelda elements remind us of 25 years of greatness
THE BAD: Poor motion controls remind us of 5 years of flailing futility
THE UGLY: The hole in my living-room wall after throwing the Wiimote through it in frustration

Somewhere within Skyward Sword slumbers the best Zelda game of all time. It is choked by a dozen hours of needless cruft; but it's there, a masterpiece entombed by a misguided ambition to be the lengthiest game in the franchise's history. It's still an incredible game, but it could have been the greatest game ever made, and the moments that keep it from doing so are absolutely going to break your heart.
aww

What. The. Fuck. is going on? This is the dumbest shit I've read in a while now. Even dumber than the Giantbomb review which is horribly written.

I feel like everyone in this thread is waiting for someone to melt down, but no ones taking the plunge. This means we've learned our lesson, or we'll have to wait til morning to watch the sparks.

And people didn't believe me when I said this would be the most mixed reviewed console Zelda.

Fetch quests?

Aren't a lot of them optional side-quests?
No.
Both the first and second dungeons has requisite and mildly annoying fetch quests directly preceding them.

seems like the general critic consensus is that MW3, skyrim, Batman, UC3, Dark souls, gears 3, etc. are all superior experiences.

Soundtrack on IGN is a 9 and doesn't measure up to past Zelda games? But isn't it fully orchestrated?!

Still a great score!

Yeah, I found the music score(HA) interesting.

I don't think it's fully orchestrated but if it was, I don't see why they'd necessarily matter.
