Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

I pretty much expected reviews to be in a wide range.

Not everyone is a fan of motion controls and everyone is going to have varying opinions on it. The only bad part of reviews is more footage/details get leaked and I don't want to know anything, so I just look at the scores and shrug.
Motion control anxiety sure impacted those Mario Galaxy scores, eh? ;)

I'm pretty sure thats copypasta from the UC3 review thread.
No, seriously. I am ready to read their review just to have a clean conscious about what I said but they are so fond of hyperboles that it makes GAF palter in comparision.

IGN reviews are not to be trusted. Punkt Schluss.

IGN seems to ignore any possible problems with the game.

EGM's problems with the game are dumb and complain about Zelda and Link being girlfriend and boyfriend, and also says the motion controls in TP are superior to Skyward Sword and the controls in SS are too hard

From EGM:

THE GOOD: Classic Zelda elements remind us of 25 years of greatness
THE BAD: Poor motion controls remind us of 5 years of flailing futility
THE UGLY: The hole in my living-room wall after throwing the Wiimote through it in frustration

What. The. Fuck. is going on? This is the dumbest shit I've read in a while now. Even dumber than the Giantbomb review which is horribly written.

See I lose respect for something like that.

Some of the criticism for the 1UP review are quite specific and definitely make sense.

-Harp is shit
-Fetch quests suck.
-Spirit realm challenges are tedious.

Those all sound like legit game design issues.

LOL at the first comment for 1UP's review:

Don't be this guy, GAF. Just don't.

The Spirit Realm challenges seem to be a hit for most reviewers.

The fetch quests seem to be the biggest issue. Which is fine, I guess.

Is it just me being slow or is this horrible writing? I've read those two sentences multiple times and still can't understand what the hell he/she is trying to say. Anyway, the review is very positive. But the conclusion is a mess.

Patrick Klepek wrote it, and in the beginning of the review he says Twilight Princess bored him, so take from that what you will.

As a couple people have thankfully pointed out: 4/5 or 8-9/10 range is still a very good game by any scale.
Exactly. And reading the review texts for that score in particular is a good way of gauging how the reviewer approached the game. They may not approach the game the same way you would.

I mean... you all spend all that time writing the text for... something, right?

I do have concerns about the Siren/Spirit Realm, and digging through some of these reviews seems like a bit of them had some concerns too. Hopefully it'll be better in-game to me. Not sure about the first-person stuff either. The fetch quest thing seems kind of credible, but depending on how it's executed, I don't really mind them in games...

Professional reviewer right here guys! This is the future of gaming journalism! Enjoy!

Motion controls in general (Move, Kinect, Wii) are pretty shitty, though I haven't tried the wiimote+

I think it's a valid complaint.

I want Eurogamer's review. If they give it a 10 it pretty much seals the deal. Although I have to admit I am worried about all the RPG shit in SS. Fetch quests have no place in Zelda games. Would anyone kind enough explain to me how the work in SS? I hope there is no random shit like enemies carrying materials appearing under certain conditions...

Pointing out the obvious here that the ?/5 scale is different from the ?/10 scale. (Unfortunately not as far as the Metacritic bonuses are considered)

the silent realm always had 'what the fuck are you thinking' written all over it. not surprised it's consistently listed as a negative.

I don't mind the Giantbomb review because I think they could have a point and bring up potentially valid criticisms.

This. Yeah, the fuck.

Why do review scores make us so upset? Isn't someone who has played the game more entitled to their opinion on the game than the fanboys who haven't touched it yet?

I said it up front and I mean it.

I don't care what score this game gets as I will make my own opinion on it.

However, I must say, that completely getting rid of the score that doesn't matter, the Text that Reviewers so often shout about the injustice of because people don't read them and only look at the score don't make a lick of sense for a few of these reviews.

There are some good points, and I won't troll any of them, but Giant Bomb and some of the things said else where don't even read well and come across as awkward even more so then bad.

Super Mario 3D Land going to finish with a higher Metacritic just like everyone expected.
The best part about this news is that Xenoblade Chronicles... the game SO TERRIBLE it could never be released for North American consumers... will wind up as the top-rated Wii title of 2011. Glorious!

I seriously loved the Spirit Realms. Short, intense, and for some reason, there's a sound effect near the beginning of each that is one of my favorite sound effects of all time. It's so awesome.

EC, can you boot Yoshichan out of the thread please? He's obviously having a meltdown.

And people didn't believe me when I said this would be the most mixed reviewed console Zelda.

It's a Zelda game heavily featuring motion controls on an SD system, by the Spirit Tracks team. It's going to get mixed reviews from everywhere, including Zelda fans (when they actually play it aren't aren't out on a blind hunt for blood.)

That is just because you as a person do not like Motion Controls not because they are bad.

IGN: 'The best Zelda game of all time'.

Really, is there anything else we need to know? Fuck everything else, this is pretty much the greatest compliment you can give a game. Everything else is noise. This is all I wanted to know.
