Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

Never in my life have I called out a review, and I'm not going to do that now. Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion.

That said, this just reeks of attention mongering. Basiclally the very last major review to come out, from the famous 8.8 crew, after everyone has been kinda sarcastically praying for a meltdown for the last several days. The review is significantly lower than the average and median, and at the end of the day, it's definitely fishy.

I think I would have been less cynical had this review come out on the 11th with other major sites; but as it stands, it's almost as if GS checked out what others were saying, reactions, and then played off that.

Anyway, I'm expecting this thread to get real funny real fast ;p

7.5?

ooooooooh boy.

Is the overworld really more barren than WW because WW only had like 10% worthwhile stuff in the overworld.
yeah i don't get it either. i remember the 'nothing to do here' comment being one of the reasons people hated sailing when tww first came out. and i thought there was actually quite a bit to explore in tp's overworld in comparison.

Controls are certainly not broken, but they're not perfect, either. Sandlot had a far superior Motion+ calibration routine in Reginleiv for example.

7.5 ... Tom McShea.

I saw this coming lol - I haven't read it ... but I usually always disagreed with his reviews regarding Wii controls and I'm pretty sure this will be no different.
Too bad it wasn't Gertsmann reviewing it, what will we attack this man for if not his weight?

holy moly.

7.5 lol
Cursed mountain got a 7.5 from gamespot.
deadly creatures got a 7.5 from gamespot.

this is just crazy haha. the review reads pretty positively. it almost seems as if the score is heavily slanted towards comparing it towards the Zelda series, not all games in general.

the flaws pointed out in all reviews so far are definitely issues that nintendo has failed to properly address in the series. If this game is worse than Spirit tracks then I might not enjoy it too much. So weird how some say best zelda ever, yet some are basically saying worst mainline zelda so far.

I never understood this complaint about wind waker. There was sooo much to do, and I never felt like I was pointless exploring because you knew that each square had something meaningful on it. I did far more exploring in that game than any other Zelda really.

I love how the Zelda Fanbase is so self-aware that there's actually not even that much of a breakdown going on. It's pretty much all "oh boy, here we go" posts. Gamefaqs acts NOTHING like they did for the 8.8.

The logical explanation is that people give much less of a shit, and the average age of Zelda fans has matured. The environment was much different around TP, as the reputation and justification of the Wii was riding on it.

Oh, I don't know about that.

LOL.. hilarious. It's very, very difficult to believe that score isn't meant for page views and to be attention whores. Pretty pathetic, but the meltdowns should entertain.

Gamespot wanted a lot of hits. So what?

We aren't seeing as many personal attacks, but there are plenty right now trying to discredit the review.

And it's only just begun.

Most of the Zelda Fanbase's reaction right now:

Oh, I don't know about that.

*Bunch of quotes*

That's nothing. And some of us know for a fact that the controls work. And if they have some trouble with, not as big of a problem as the GameSpot guy makes it sound.

Is 7.5 the new 6.4? (Or whatever Shenmue received)

6.8 (gamespot) - shenmue
7.9 (ign) - mario kart: dd
c- (gaming-age) - ninja gaiden
8.8 (gamespot) - twilight princess
8/10 (eurogamer) - uncharted 3

those are the five big ones. we'll see how this one goes.

Eh. Could care less really in the end. Going to be outliers and attention seekers.

It's a clear attention grab considering how late it is and going against everything many reviewers and normal gamers have talked about after playing the game (from the blurb and break down on the right of the review. Didn't read the review do to the potential spoiler issue.). Not worth getting upset about. People should just look at it for what it really is. Actually they should be embarrassed. It's so easy to see what they were trying to do. Then again I guess they don't care about credibility and professionalism.

Now what would be worth getting upset about is if the review really is intentionally filled with spoilers. That's pure BS and that just makes the writer...............let me stop now.

Who gives a fuck about a score, people love Zelda and will flock to buy it period. I know I am definitely interested seeing as how it is getting positive reviews all over the world. And also 7.5 isn't that bad of a score.

I preordered the bundle as soon as it was available on Amazon :)

I have never finished a Zelda game ever and own almost all of them in some capacity. Whether it be the disk/cartridge or on the virtual console. :/

i t doesnt really matter :P
That is what naturally happens in your mind anyways when playing through a game.

games like deadly creatures will pleasantly surprise you, hyped up games that do not live up to expectations will disappoint. Im more curious about what ppl will think of SS in a few years from now.

Er, I guess I can't even read it to comment on it since it's so spoilery... Meh.

Having played the demo I'd say the controls take getting used to (my first impressions posted here were super negative, it clicked the second time I spent a little time with it) but aren't broken, if that's what he claims, unless you consider having to press down on the d-pad occasionally to re-center anything that went wonky broken. I didn't consider that broken in WSR and I don't consider it broken here, not that it wouldn't be better to not have to do this, or to have sensor bar based pointing.

It depends on what you define as 'overworld'.

Sorry I meant the sky, though I guess it's unfair not to include the ground stuff too. Though I still don't understand the layout of the ground sections with respect to the dungeons.

Most of the squares had either something that you couldn't access until later for one specific story moment or stupid stuff like the 6 different eye reefs. Even if each square had something worthwhile in it, the rest of the map was pretty much empty.

He's a GAFfer?

not sure i should mention him by name, but he posted in this thread earlier about the game or the review (i forget).

i knew him as a gaffer long before i knew he wrote for gamespot.

I think its come too late to make fans go crazy. The review frenzy is already over and now people just want to play the game.

Yeah, burnout and we were prepared for the isolated intellectualism of a score like this.

No one gives a shit anymore, it's just something to post about.

Yeah, but the review is still lol at least. Especially when it contains factually incorrect information (the part about IR) and someone beat me to pointing it out :p
