I guess I'll just hide in the uni toilet and read the manual until I can go home.
ShockingAlberto said:This does remind me of something I've mentioned before, that everyone looks to Zelda for something different and no one game can satisfy all those desires anymore.
I myself think the game should focus on dungeon and puzzle design. There was a crazy dude who (might still?) posts here that thinks it needs to become more character action like Devil May Cry. A lot of people think it needs to ape Lord of the Rings in tone and be epic and traverse great distances. The Zelda series is many things to many people and will not always hit the right beats for everyone. This also includes reviewers.
Some of the scores on either side of the pendulum might be explained that way.
zelda. zelda never changes.Woffls said:So many reviews making a point of comparing it to the older Zelda games. Are we really at the point where everything that's ever said about a Zelda game needs to be compared to games released in different decades? Judge the game on its own merits, not whether you recognise something from Ocarina of Time that seems vaguely familiar. Zelda has changed.
They've only been going downhill since Super Mario Bros.Thunder Monkey said:Not surprising.

It could only go down from such heights.
It's so bad that it actually damaged one reviewer's house.ShockingAlberto said:Most reviews have said it may actually be the worst game ever.

But what would you have us do?wrowa said:Which is why I agree partly with the complainer, with this sentence to be more precisely:
"The reviews are inconsistent and the scoring makes little to no sense."
Because - completely unrelated to Zelda - this is true for most places. More often than not one gets the impressions that the different editors of a single publication can't agree on same standards. Or they might not even care.

Nah mate. Australia.GillianSeed79 said:Cool, this means I can actually play Skyward Sword without having to feel like there's a pre-ordained notion forced upon me that if I don't think it's the GOTY or the generation that I should be ridiculed.
Zelda scores mean zilch to me since I'm one of only two people on the planet that thinks OOT isn't the greatest game of all time, or the greatest Zelda game for that matter. The other dude I think probably lives in the Amazon.
The irony is I absolutely loved Twilight Princess, which everyone hates. If motion controls can add to the experience as much as TP without being a hinderance I'm on board.

The biggest surprise in Skyward Sword is the story. For all the different shapes it has taken, the plot of The Legend of Zelda has always been a fairly predictable affair that feels like an afterthought. Skyward Sword doesn't elevate the art of video game storytelling, but it is a major step up for the franchise, with clever writing, an interesting (if strange) new villain, and a wide cast of characters that would feel at home in one of Disney's better animated movies.

But hell yeah, Switzerland ---> Land of Zelda, as it always used to be since 1987. Playing Zelda while chatting in Swiss German dialect is priceless, it is the absolute gaming experience.
I even mentioned the Disney thing myself in my review, but "wide cast" is ridiculous. The number of named NPCs in this game is shockingly, shockingly low.Cygnus X-1 said:It is completely opposite of what TSA says. This Zelda sure will be the most controversial one.
And on top of that,Andrex said:So it seems likeThat's kind of lame. I guess it's better than WW or the handheld titles though.there are two or three less dungeons in this game than Twilight Princess, and like TP two of them are flubs (for SS, the first two, for TP, the final two.)
Phew.Feep said:Not nearly that bad. Not even by half.
walking fiend said:I guess the difference between 8 and a 10 score has roots in more than this. Please stop finding ways to justify obviously biased reviews such as GB and EGM which no matter what point SS had focused on, would give it a lower score simply because it is on the Wii and uses M+. Not that because it focuses less on being epic and more on dungeon, etc.
Andrex said:TSA doesn't contradict what the GI review says, he just nitpicks other things about it, like Ghirahim not feeling evil enough -- which could be a fair criticism. He laments that most NPCs aren't vital to the plot, but others say they're still memorable.
Fine with me.Instro said:What about moe dungeons?
Gameblog.fr said:One thing's for sure: Skyward Sword will divide. Its numerous qualities, among which the changes of scenery, the ingeniousness of the puzzles, make it able to provide us with a quest rich with intense moments, but some imprecision and lengthy sections prevent it from becoming the new and reformed shiny prince the series needed. If the Wii MotionPlus gameplay enables the immersion to go a step further, it requires a rigorous play style and will spawn some frustrations when it sometimes (rarely) doesn't work perfectly well. A beautiful adventure remains, still, proud to be the hallmark of the 25th anniversary of Link, Zelda & co... but not sufficiently sparkling to eclipse the infinite magic of the Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past episodes.
9/10
I am talking more about this kind of line:Magicpaint said:Ummm...these are great scores. Let's not lose perspective here. About what I expected to be quite honest.
The Wii gets one last chance to make good on its potential in Link's latest adventure. Is Nintendo successful, or were we really better off with traditional controllers after all?
SUMMARY: Skyward Sword has all the elements of a spectacular Zelda tale, but poor controls prevent this from reaching an Ocarina-like level.
THE GOOD: Classic Zelda elements remind us of 25 years of greatness
THE BAD: Poor motion controls remind us of 5 years of flailing futility
THE UGLY: The hole in my living-room wall after throwing the Wiimote through it in frustration
Mistle said:And on top of that,I'm hoping for the best but there seems to be a great lack of geographical diversity.there are 2 dungeons per area, with them having similarities.
Wind Waker is the greatest Zelda game. Now the greatest game of all time is probably something like NiGHTS into Dreams or Mario Galaxy. Maybe even Snake Rattle and Roll. that game was pretty fucking brilliant.GillianSeed79 said:Cool, this means I can actually play Skyward Sword without having to feel like there's a pre-ordained notion forced upon me that if I don't think it's the GOTY or the generation that I should be ridiculed.

Not how great they add to the experience but solely on response.
1 being "rarely work" and 10 being "always work".
You may play the demo yourself. I'd give it an 8; but they say recentering is fixed, in that case it would be a 9.TheGreatMightyPoo said:Feep, on a scale of 1 to 10, how accurate are the motion controls????

7 or a 6 has to be coming from somewhere. shit, a 4/10 like uncharted 3 got would be something, but it'd have to happen within the next day or two and not a week down the road.cajunator said:Where is the really low score that makes everybody go apeshit?
