Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

I don't know how anyone can take the Gamespot review seriously. Movie fans will know the name Armond White. This dude seems like he wants to be his equivalent.
If he wanted to be Armond White he would have given the game a 2 or something.

not just in this thread but in others but i've yet to see any "discussion" in any review threads recently. It's mud slinging and stupidity from -both sides-.

It's pointless - people have decided for big name games before they've played the game. Zelda, Uncharted, Skyrim... it's pointless.
what kind of discussion are you looking for?

it seems to me that the only thing to discuss about reviews for a particular game are the number and the supposed validity. review threads in general are made for letting people discuss their interpretations of the reviews. also, probably to get hyped or see a game get slaughtered for fun.

Is 7.5 lower than B+? I'm not sure. Can we get a 1UP expert in here to give us an analysis?
The guy who gave the B+ said in a recent podcast that it is 8.5, and he is frustrated that metacritic makes it 83.

Games that are better or just as good as Skyward Sword (according to Gamespot):

Saint's Row The Third
Sonic Generations
Skylanders
Driver: San Francisco
Cars 2: The Video Game
Red Faction: Armageddon
Kinectimals
Fable III

I don't think I can make a plain face big enough to express myself right now.

Did you really just make a "games which are better than" list? :/

Not to be a back seat modder, but I recall a time where this idiocy was bannable. It was glorious.

The aiming is messed up in Zelda no matter how its handled. And that"s all from me tonight

Wait, you mean Zelda in general or Skyward Sword? Because I have to disagree here, the bow aiming in the Wii version of Twilight Princess was pretty great.

Out of curiosity, what are standard credentials for most video game journalists?
1. Do you like playing games?

2. Can you write multiple paragraphs without devolving into incomprehensible gibberish?

3. Are you okay with crappy pay?

you should have known it was not IR aiming because then it would have been good :P
Cmon, stay and play for a bit. :)

it's lower.

But, I specifically said this:
I am not angry at the review, I won't read it at least until I finish the game, since it seems to have spoilers; but this is a very shitty move nonetheless. I wouldn't care this much if they gave this same exact score, but not now that every other review is out.

Actually, at some pages ago, I said that I think 1up review (which was lower than, say, EGM review) is a better and consistent review, since the text matches with the score.

Surely this point is a positive?
Are you implying for some reason they gave GS the game after everyone else?

Just think of it like this.

They have had time to play Skyrim to give out a review exactly as the embargo end, but didn't have time to finish Zelda, and decide to put the lowest score after everyone? You tell me if they weren't after hits...

Think of it like this.

What would generate more hits: posting one of the first available reviews and giving a lower than expected score, or posting a review days after everyone else, when most people have already read their fill of reviews, and giving a lower than expected score?

To be fair, the whole "they say this game is better the game x" thing is dumb.

I don't have any issue with people disagreeing with a review, but I think it's funny how many instantly jump on it for "trolling" or "begging for hits."

A 10 is a rarer score than a 7.5, more out of the ordinary, but the 10s SS received didn't seem to garner the same sort of attention.

I would also like to know what the IR thing was about, though.
for mega titles, 7.5s are far rarer from the major gaming sites

And if he wanted to Armond, he'd also make some argument about how the game's plot obviously encourages soulless corporatism or something.

Isn't a 7.5 a C?
OK, here's what I never got about game reviews. If 7.5 is a C, then anything below a 60 would be an F. Why do we have scores that go lower than 60, then? I can understand why it's done in an academic setting -- you need to keep track of points throughout the semester/year to see what you end up getting at the end -- but why not get rid of the lower end of the scale for game reviews?

Isn't that the guy who gave Toy Story 3 a bad review?
Dude is a notorious 100% RT-buster. He's dropped rotten reviews on countless legitimately great movie of the past few years. A professional troll.

Don't forget that Famitsu thinks SS isn't better than Nintendogs, herp derp.

Is it bannable? In a review thread?

If so, I'll edit my post and I apologize. I was just putting into perspective how out of wack their review scores can be. Don't see how that's "idiocy".

Zelda and Skyrim were not reviewed by the same person.

He's the one who always reviews against the trend, yes.
His last review was GoldenEye 007: Reloaded (8.0) written on Nov 02. I guess he had enough time after that to write his review by the end of embargo.

OK so I aint even mad gamespot. I don't care about your score, SS could well deserve a 7.5, I can't say because I haven't played it. But JESUS FUCKING CHRIST they need an editor up in this bitch.

Thankfully,FILLER other staples,COMMA SPLICE such as exquisite dungeon design and enticing collectibles, COMMA SPLICE are also present,COMMA SPLICE and the clever storytelling keeps you invested. Ultimately, Skyward Sword commits many of the same mistakes that its predecessors have made, but it still provides enough engrossing content to keep you hooked.

In the opening moments of Skyward Sword, Zelda is seen penning a letter to Link. However, this is not a plea to rescue her from the clutches of evil. Rather, it's a wake-up note for a boy who relishes sleep above all other activities. Zelda and Link spend time together in Skyward Sword where they enjoy the sights of Skyloft, the peaceful city in the clouds they call home. Although Link is his usual mute self,

Also tons of garbage filler words. Words like Thankfully, Ultimately, However, Rather, Although start almost every single sentence.

This is not me cherry picking either. This is all from two contiguous paragraphs at the start of the article.

Hey, GS reviewer here. Two quick things while I walk home. 1 - I love Zelda games (which is why I reviewed this) and did enjoy SS despite its flaws. 2 - Sorry for any spoilers. I tried not to give anything major away but I do have to point out specific things if I'm going to properly critique.

Thanks for not making fun of my weight!
I use to think of you as a friend!

That's what I'm assuming as well. I just wonder about their standards. There are definitely reviewers out there I respect a bit more, but they do seem to be few and far between.

WHELP, that's it for me, off to study

different people review different games and come to different conclusions.

7.5 is a B, not C. There's a curve to the scale.

Interesting point. I personally like letter grades better than numbers.

what kind of discussion are you looking for?

on reviews? NONE

There's no point.

Gaming tastes are as unique as musical tastes. Someone could play Celine Dion to me all year and profess she's a 10/10 performer with at 10/10 album and i won't budge my opinion.

Gaming tastes are the same. So quite why people care what someone elses take on a particular game is beyond me - especially when you couple in a strong wiff of people who -haven't- played the game yet moaning about scores.

In an ideal world - i'd want the -hardcore- gaming community to look at a review and go "like i give a fuck" (good or bad) - but we don't. People are invested up to the hilt and it's just mindboggling to watch.

Man I'd love for a reviewer to start that argument up for video games. I think we really need an Armond White right now.

So, it took him two weeks to complete the game. That sounds fair.

So many perfect tens and then you see this

I don't wanna participate in this drama, I just want to play the damn game already
