Probably PS5 when the right game comes along. All I really want is a super immersive FPS in an open world with nice visuals. I was hoping GG would show a new realistic FPS with awesome gunplay.

PS5 first then eventually I will upgrade from my One X to Series X but I will wait for a revised Slim version.

Both, maybe at launch. Both consoles are gonna have a good line up I think launching and with BC enabled from the start.

I don't know. I might wait for PS5.5 or XSXs. I really want to get into VR for PC but that's as expensive as another console. I imagine VR on consoles is going to be expensive too. I think once they announce the PS5.5 Final Fantasy VII+ collectors edition anniversary gamestop exclusive bundle for $750 I'll think about it. Honestly, I'm waiting to see how things pan out with reviews and games for the console.

I'll be honest, with the beginning of the current generation, I wasn't ready yet. I didn't think that the leap I graphical quality was enough until the PS4 Pro could do most games at 1080p60. I was ready for 2-3 more years of PS3/360.

This next generation I'm even less excited for, though the mid-generation refresh is the biggest factor behind that sentiment. I would be happy with Xbox One X games and PS4 Pro only games for another 3-4 years. Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us 2 are absolutely gorgeous games, If be fine with games like that for a bit longer.

I honestly would prefer a "dedicated" VR console next. An all-in-one that easily connects to the TV wirelessly for traditional experiences. Thing is, we're definitely several years away from technology on that level at an affordable price.

Oh well, guess I'll hold out on next gen and make a decision on one of them if the time feels right, otherwise it may be my first console generation that is Nintendo/PC only since the early 90's.

Big family?

I have a regular Switch and a Lite. My oldest two boys each have a Lite and share a regular Switch.

Pretty soon we will likely get a Switch for my youngest. He's 3, almost 4 and plays a lot of 3DS. He still drops it a bit and I don't quite trust him with a much less durable Switch yet.

I'll buy the PS5 on launch with credit card rewards and probably buy the Series X with cash afterwards. I've got GamePass so it makes sense but there is literally nothing on XBox anymore that entices me, it's basically my kid's system at this point.

It's a great option for kids and big kids like me....

PS5 for sure. I've been saving up for it. I'm not asking for presents this year. If any family members want to get me something, they can chip in. I got TLoU2 pre-ordered for early Father's Day.

The Wii U have some rubber casings off eBay. I got one and I'll never go back.

Getting me a GameBoy, a copy of Pokemon: Fire Red, and living in my nostalgia bubble for the foreseeable future. It's still 2004... it's still 2004... it's still 2004...

It's hard to say. I think if they can sell at least 50 million consoles again it's probably worth it. The hardware starts to make some profit in the later years of generations, their getting game purchases and subscriptions from people who may not be interested in streaming games or PC gaming etc.

If it does worse than Xbox One sales wise, then yeah, I think they'll be done and just focus on PC, Gamepass and Xcloud. In general the money is in selling software and subscriptions, not hardware. Outside of Nintendo anyway as they manage to sell a lot of hardware and from a profit per unit from the start. They'll be the last to abandon dedicated hardware as a result.

That's exactly it. Heck, even if the console sells decent, they may abandon hardware either way. The future is trending in that direction and Microsoft is heavily invested in the services industry, which is where the real money is. Most of their software is moving to the subscription model, games likely won't be any different.

Microsoft doesn't need Xbox division to make its money on hardware, because they can make money on the back end too. Sony, increasingly dependent on the SCE division is likely going to hold out along with Nintendo.

Even though there are quite a few vocal fanboys from both sides on this forum, looks like majority are going for PS5.
If Sony get the price right, another 7 years of domination.

Here is a preview of the retail horror that awaits some of you this fall/winter:

It ought to be remade for the next generation! Or maybe someone could remake it in Dreams?

XBOX. I am already heavily invested in the MS ecosystem and have a massive backlog. The fact I will be able to access that backlog on the new machine, on day 1, is huge to me. Also Gamepass is absolutely incredible

XSX day one. Actually just picked up a Pro not long ago to work through some of Sony's first party games. Will get a PS5 down the line.

At the moment PS5
A really good showing for Halo Infinite could change those plans though.

I could see myself buying a SeX at launch with Game Pass, playing Halo Infinite for a few months to get my Halo fix for the generation and then selling the console on and buying a PS5.

I'd like to get an Xbox since I passed on it this gen, gamepass is very cool but at the end of the day they don't have god of war.

PS5. Ratchet & Clank and Demon's Souls are amazing games that i can't wait to play . I am not interested in the XSX but a low cost Lockhart may be worth it, if it exist and have great games .

I'm getting an Xbox Series X (All digital edition if announced) on day one to play Halo and all the prev gen games on GamePass on Day 1. There is just way too much value that makes it easy as a first up purchase.

BUT

As soon as Sony announce a Horizon: Wild West PS5 bundle with a different colour scheme console/controller, I'm there Day 0. Other than that there is nothing that really draws me to buy the PS5 day one (yet). Any arguments for TLoU II and Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 I don't buy. The games will run great on my Pro and I'm going to have a great time regardless.

Call me petty bit I'm not buying that white console haha. I wonder if DBrand will do skins for the PS5.

Prob gonna pick up an xsx at launch purely for halo couch co-op. Then maybe sell and get ps5 once the good exclusives drop in a couple years

I'm upgrading my PC before the consoles land so any Series X games that take my fancy I'll play on PC with higher settings.

PS5 day 1. Can't wait to have that stunning and futuristic V design in my media centre 🙂

Did they say anything that might indicate that we would get a all digital edition? Because I would also prefer that. Used the drive in my Xbox One (since day one) just 1 time to see what the content was of an unmarked dvd...

No news or teases of an All Digital edition that i've seen.

PS5. I wouldn't care in any way anymore to have a Microsoft console in my house. PC/PS5, best combo and PS has yet to reveal more stuff and games in the coming months

it ain't over yet.

So I was really undecided. Then I came home last night and saw my most anticipated game of all time The Last of Us: Part 2 had downloaded. That's when I realized no other console offers me these kind of exclusives that I love. So that's why I've decided to go Sony again.

X-box is a great console this time around though and their respect for backwards compatibility is something I admire greatly and wish Sony had.

The rumored scarlet would be that, not? If true I can see going for the cheaper units this gen.

Lockhart? But that's rumoured to be a 1080p console, would buy the XSX for native 4K, and just the best graphics in general.

Not sure if I'm buying at launch but definitely Ps5, I just trust Playstation studios to keep churning out games I enjoy. I just got a pretty good PC gaming rig and I do want to use it, so there is nothing coming to XSX that I wouldn't rather play on my PC at this point.

So basically for me, it's going to be PS5/PC/Switch Lite.

I only have enough time for one. PS5 by a mile.

I don't see any appeal of the xsx And I'm sure the worldwide market will agree.

Until Microsoft gives a good reason to go xbox over PC I'm perfectly comfortable sticking with Playstation/PC for next gen. There's really still very little motivation to go Xbox when PC ports exist of the games I'm interested in.

Probably going to wait until next year to purchase either. There's still plenty of games both current and upcoming to be played on current generation as well as PC. I think the new consoles will mostly serve best as a Blu Ray player and backwards compatibility for early adopters. This year has been a nightmare we all know and the games for which will showcase each new system, are still in the oven. Studios working from home, etc. We have to give them time. More-so now than ever before, me thinks.

I'll probably get both a couple years after release. Don't trust the launch units to not have problems. You know... too noisy, overheating, internal soldering to melt away when it gets room temperature... those kinds of pesky things. Also, (hopefully) slimmer redesigns that don't look like Beetlejuice sculptures.
