I change my mind about this more often than my undies. Today I'm in the XSX boat and picking up PS5 when Horizon Forbidden West comes out. But this afternoon, I'm going to watch the Digital Foundry video and see what they think.

I play PS exclusives on PC via PSN.

And I'd rather experience them day one without any technical limitation due to streaming. More over, my current pc certainly cannot render native 4k at 30fps with raytracing, so I'll take the ps5 which will cost half as less as the gpu I'd need for this. Also retro compatibility

I'm both. But not both at launch, one will follow a year or so later.

Still haven't decided which one I will get at launch, so it's a wait and see situation for me.

I was really hyped for the PS5 but the reveal was kind of a let down. I think I'll build a new PC in 1 or 2 years when Nvidia releases it's new gen of graphics cards.

It depends. I primarily play competitive online multiplayer games. I'm waiting for a couple things:

  • Silent Hill? If the rumor is true and it is exclusive to one of the consoles, I will buy that console. But I don't think it is true.
  • Is there something the XSX will have that I can't get on Windows/PC? If so, depending on what it is, I may buy an XSX.
If neither are true, then I probably won't buy either. I do really like what MS is doing with Game Pass and xCloud though.

I rather invest my money in fpv quads and RC now. More fun, more tech talk, no bullshit media, because they can not even understand what it is about. I will wait until everything is getting discounted.

Yep. That's where im at. Microsoft took away all reasons for me to buy an xsx since I have a good pc.
Both probably within the first year.

It's hard to say because between two consoles and the 3000 series Nvidia cards coming out, that's just a whole lot of money to spend when I'm not really as excited for next gen as I thought I would be. I'm not really seeing the massive jump in performance or graphics that normally gets me excited.

I guess it depends how backwards compatibility shakes out and how far back both of them are willing to go.

as a collector of games PS5 is the only system that stands a chance of releasing physical media of single-player experiences and without an online requirement.

I've also got the 3080 on my radar if Sony swerves to MS online account required nonsense but with GT7 and Spider-Man I hope they don't.

There definitely wont' be any first party Microsoft games that don't come to PC. They're all in on Play Anywhere and maximizing the number of games and attached DLC/MTs they can sell. I'd also expect PC Gamepass to start getting everything on the console version as well when it's out of Beta. The only exceptions, and this would apply to your bullet point, would be some random third party games that don't get a PC port for some reason. Hell, PC Gamepass may end up being better since it already has had some PC exclusive games on it.

Yeah I've been on PC Game Pass for a couple months and it is pretty great. I don't expect XSX to have any games that don't come to PC, but the actual OS of the XSX might have some kind of interesting and unique feature that makes it a tempting purchase. Doubtful though.

I think that's really only worth weighing if you don't have your PC hooked up to your TV, or can't easily do so. My PC is at my desk in the corner a few feet away from my TV so I just have an HDMI cable to it and game solely on the TV with an Xbox Elite controller. The little I use it anyway as I just haven't gamed on PC like I thought I would back when I bought it 4 years ago.

But I could see an Xbox being nice if you can't get your PC games on TV or have another TV elsewhere in the house that you'd like to game on sometimes, especially since the Play Anywhere games give you the Xbox and PC version with cross save for the most part.

Playing day one isn't much of a concern for me just having access to the Sony exclusives is nice and I can wait since I have a ton of games to play anyway. But having the opportunity to play with friends who only have a PS is the icing on the cake.

Currently playing through The Last of Us. And then its onto the Uncharted series.

I have a pretty good broadband connection so the stream is pretty smooth. Almost perfect. Incredible actually. I had a quick go at a F1 game and it worked really well. In fact the only down side I have is the PS4 controller I bought for my PC. It's a real hassle getting it to work so sometimes I have to revert back to my wired 360 controller.

With PSN for PC I wont be needing a PS console so I can concentrate on my PC. I have an Xbox in my living room as the media centre. Although maybe next gen I'll skip the Xbox too when you consider I could stream to my TV via xCloud. I'm slightly concerned that from all the imagery we have seen of the XSEX there isn't a HDMI in though.

More hyped for the series x overall but there's no way I'm missing the next GOW so I'll be getting both. Hopefully day one.

That's a 1.91 to 1 ratio, for those who like ratios.

Here's how that compares to previous polls.

January, before the spec reveals: 2.26 to 1
Early April, right after Cerny's presentation: 1.5 to 1
Mid-April, after the dust settled: 2.1 to 1
Mid-June, right after the PS5 reveal: 1.91 to 1

Make of that what you will. To me, I see a strong preference for PS5 before the spec reveals, which drops considerably after Cerny's talk (Teraflopgate), bounces back after the tech details were better understood (SSD to the rescue!), and is hovering somewhere around 2 to 1. You might argue that the PS5 reveal caused a bit of a drop for PS5 (2.1 in April vs. 1.9 in June), but that's kind of iffy, given how small the change is and the nature of polls.

Caveat: these polls have somewhat different options, so they aren't 100% comparable. Still, I think it's interesting to track the results and watch the little GAF ball bounce up and down.

I will get both at launch, but will be primary Xbox; same as this gen. I don't like Sony's controllers as much and their network/OS/store/B.C. experience have generally been poor. I started as primary PS4 last gen but Microsoft really turned it around with B.C. getting rid of the Kinect focus and Xbox one X.

yeah good luck streaming 4k hdr + raytracing without a loss of quality in the process. sorry to say but PS Now is a joke in that regard, theres a clear loss of quality and no matter what, input lag. I literally got 1gb fiber via ethernet and you can notice all of this very quickly (even more so in the case of visual artifacts). If its possible to have optimum conditions via Nvidia Shield streaming then I rest my case

Agreed. Psnow is only good if you download the game.
I tried to stream some ps4 titles cuz of space issue but given up asap.
Ever since i download every pa4 title

PS5 and XsX only to play hellblade 2 I will probably sell it after that and project Mara probably come at the end of gen so I will buy the mid gen refresh again.

I'm heavily invested in the Xbox ecosystem and with them pushing game pass/smart delivery/backwards compatibility it's a no-brainer to stay on for another gen! Plus I'm a huge Halo fan and they supposedly will have Infinite ready for launch.

I'm sorry you had a poor experience but I'm loving it. I use it. I play games from it. I'm having a great time using it. The drop in resolution for me doesn't take away from the fact that i'm playing a Sony exclusive on my PC. Although i take on board that 4K might not be practical why wouldn't ray tracing be possible?

Please go and stream on ps4 in 720p.
Download is the only way to go.
Maybe you are on pc and that why you say thay but come one spiderman in 4k vs 720 p with macro blocking are you joking?

Nuff said.
While I think MS is doing a much better job this time around I still think most amazing games Ive grown up with (fell in love with) are on PS. PlayStation has invested years (decades) to create amazing games, its not something you create in a year or two. And the variaty in games is outstanding. I just cant leave that relationship behind no matter what the competition has.

I'm not joking. I'm perfectly happy with gaming that way. I dont have a 4K TV or 4K monitor. This suits me perfectly. I get to played top notch PS exclusives without having to buy a PS.
Besides 720p is what is offered in it's current state. It can go only get better from here.

Phil doesn't care for VR nor I do care for their games.

psvr will be compatible with PS5 but it remains to be seen to what extent: just to play old PS4 VR games or to use that extra PS5 power to finally allow lots of AAA VR ports that have been missing so far? It was not a part of their future of games presentation, so I guess not.

so, between no VR and a vague VR possibility, so far I'm more inclined to go with a pc headset

I'm going to upgrade to a RTX3080 but if I were forced to buy a next console I'd buy the XsX bc I would never ever wanna touch a PS controller. I also love halo.

Now all we need is Sony being more open to PC gaming and PC players will have the best choice of all (they already do but still)

Eventually I'll get a PS5 but since I game mostly on PC I won't be getting it the first week or so that it comes out, but I do plan on getting one eventually. We still don't know the whole story about either console yet so anyone on the fence still has some decision making to do based on the info that's going to come out.

I've always been a playstation guy, but DS4 is the first PS controller I didn't enjoy...Big hands i guess.

I'd take PS5 100%, but i wonder if Dualsense will be more comfortable. It looks like it will, but I have to try of course.

Do you think we'll get controller earlier like last time?

Still waiting for more game reveals and price. If price is sky high for both and they have little of note to offer early on, I may just sit out a year or two and reassess later.

If I can snag one, I'll get the PS5 at launch. I will get a Series X, but it will be after the holiday. But I'm also after a new NVIDIA GPU. So I need to be careful with spending lol.

Let me put it this way.

Everyone was underwhelmed with the ps5 stream at 1080. And then they got floored by the native 4k feed.

And you wont play all the newest ps5 games day one this is not gamepass.

Its great that you get to play the crem de la crem but you still missing out on a bunch of exclusives like days gone tlou2 got etc.

If you dont have a ps4 i guess its just as fine for you. But ill be damned if i ever have to trade my native 4k horizon for a stream feed.
Never

I'm Going all in this gen, fam. Buying the PS5 /XSX.
Also recently built a solid 3900x Ryzen Rig

IM READY FOR THE FUTURE

PS5 because we get Next Gen exclusive games out of the gate. The fact that I can play Series X games (like Halo Halo Infinite) on my Xbox One negates any reason to upgrade now. I think this strategy is going to backfire on MS. Until we see true next gen exclusive games on Series X, I fear this will seem like another mid gen upgrade, as opposed to the full generational leap Sony is offering. That being said, I do eventually want a Series X because I love Gears, but that is likely years away.

I have a feeling PS5 will launch with Ratchet & Clank to pair with Spiderman MM, and it will really show off the leap. The idea of having multiple game worlds open at any time and you can leap between them at will is simply something that isn't possible this gen.

Great so we are two happy campers. You get to experience 4K on a PS console whilst I, despite not having one, gets to enjoy the games too via PSN on PC.

I'm still leaning to the PS5 but its still TBD. Waiting for price information, how sharing works in same home (as in, will I still be able to set kids console as my primary so they can play games I buy at same time as me) and to learn more about first party games. I enjoyed the graphical detail and what appeared to be good use of SSD in Sony's reveal. But the lineup itself did not get me too excited yet.
