PS5. I don't know when, it may depend on the Demon's Souls release date.

The XSX was the more appealing of the two for a little while (Gamepass + BC). One day perhaps.

Ps5 probably, but I'm in no rush. I have a Ps4 Pro, an Xbox One X, and an alright PC (recent i5, and an Nvidia 1660). So I can play any cross platform games just fine for a while, and MS says they will release at least year one exclusives on Xbox One still as well. There just is no real compelling reason to upgrade yet for Xbox.

When Sony gives me a must-have Ps5 game, I'm in probably.

The Pro and OneX really kind of "Reset" this gen for me. I don't feel like I need new consoles yet, as games continue to blow me away visually. If they held off for 2-3 more years, that would have been fine by me.

Ps5 like every other PlayStation never had a xbox never wanted one and never will get one I have zero respect for Microsoft as a company so will try my best to never give them a cent of my hard earned money.

Will trade in my Xbone for Xbox Series X. PS5 I will get later because I dont want it to catch on fire (anticipating initial manufacturing issues)

Right now it's neither. First year of console lifecycle has been a crapshoot in terms of software quality and hardware reliability. The appearance of half-step consoles this gen like the Pro and X makes me think I should just wait for the next-gen equivalent of those. I've got far too many games from the last decade that I haven't touched, so I'm good for the three years or so until those appear.

The prospect of a major PC upgrade in 2 years when there is some movement in the hardware space is currently more appealing. Framerates above 60, G-Sync/FreeSync, higher resolution VR, etc. are all very appealing, and cost isn't an issue.

There are three factors keeping me interested in the consoles pre-launch:
1. The backwards compatability support. More interested in the XSX in this regard given the haphazard way Sony's support has been announced. I want to see the extent to which the original Xbox is supported, and how many extra 360 titles are added.
2. PSVR. Nary a mention beyond "it's happening" - PSVR is my only exposure to VR so far, and hearing from people how "entry level" it is compared to PC VR has me leaning towards PC. However, I like things to be easy and not overly time consuming because I typically have little free time, which is why PSVR still has a bit of a hold on me. I rearranged my home office/games room to be more VR friendly recently. To me, VR is the only thing that has felt like a major step forward in a very long time.
3. Exclusives. If I can't get the games on PC and they're good, I'll get a console.

PS5 because i trust Sony to bring the games. I had a 360, but i completely lost faith in Microsoft to make great games this gen. I have gotten both the last three gens, but won't get a XBX unless they start pumping out good games

PS5 day one! After yesterday, my hype is through the roof. New spider man game at launch, a pack in platformer, a real GT, Demons Souls, and sooo much more. MS gonna have to blow me away to get my money at launch.

I'm going to take both.
(but maybe not DayOne)

And I actually see how the dominance of this generation, from Sony, basically take the lead even in the next.
But, if Microsoft can pull out more new exclusive games for the next year?
Then we need to see the Xbox move in the next July event, at least.

XSX with GamePass is still my plan. Best version of third party titles, plus all the GamePass games, is a terrific value proposition. I'll pick up the PS5Pro when the PSVR2 is launched at some point.

PS5. Always been a Sony boy and I will be one until I die.
Although I want to be honest: In comparison to all the other PS reveals/upcoming launches before, this one left me pretty underwhelmed so far. Hope there'll be some more surprises down the road.

As for the XSX. Guess I'll get it 1-2 years after launch, like the other MS consoles. Right now I just can't get used to the thought of having such a mindless brick in front of me. And the often arrogant MS PR is getting on my nerves atm (THE MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE + ridiculous tweets).

Let me say something controversial yet very very right.

*Clears throat*

The era of hardware based platform wars is coming to an end. Third party games will continue to blur the line between PS5 and the Series X. Exclusives will only become more and more rare as budgets balloon.

As the end of the hardware wars cools, another war bubbles to the surface...

The rise of the software based platform war. Fewer and fewer people will identify with being a PS5 gamer or an Xbox gamer and instead identify with being a Minecraft gamer, a Fortnite gamer, a GTA gamer.

So the first company to capitalize on this paradigm shift will "win". Right now, it feels like Microsoft has a big headstart in this area. Sea of Thieves will continue to grow over the next few years. Everwild from Rare may turn into a new platform. Halo Infinite will make most of it's money from multiplayer. If I had to bet, The Initiative will capitalize on this trend as well.

Yesterdays PS5 event showed us that Sony isn't prepared for this paradigm shift. All their games showcased the old model of approach. Single player "push up on left joystick" type games have prevailed in this industry since the first PlayStation. However, Naughty Dog is apparently making an "ambitious" multiplayer game and if that explodes more then the competition, Sony wins.

TLDR: I'm not looking at the PS5 vs Series X. I'm looking for that one game that's going to grab by attention for the next two, three years.

Now you may throw your roses at my feet as I bow to you with pride.

Well...though I'm gonna get all consoles again (started doing that since the Dreamcast generation) this time I'm more excited about the PS5 and will get first at launch.

The Demon Souls Remake was too much for me to handle...it is my most wanted game right now.

XSX Day One Edition

- Better controller
- FULL BC with improved loading and performance
- Game Pass Ultimate
- Smart Delivery
- Whisper-quiet and cool console operation (see Xbox One X)
- Better app support
- More powerful than ps5
- Hassle-free expandable storage solution
- Quick Resume
- Less expensive than ps5

2 PS5's at launch.... one disc version and one digital. Digital one for my son.... who I can proudly say just turned seven and beat Darkbeast Paarl on his own yesterday, he also got to that point without my help.

Really hyped.

What time machine are you using? May I please rent it for a bit? I'll be able to predict 100% of the leaked/potential titles for NeoGaf's secret spy mission.

Xbox all the way for me. Bottom line, I like racers and shooters. Xbox one was the place to be for that, I don't see it changing after that showcase.

From the man himself:
Phil Spencer said:
"I would say a learning from the Xbox One generation is we will not be out of position on power or price. If you remember the beginning of this generation we were a hundred dollars more expensive and yes, we were less powerful. And we started Project Scarlett with this leadership team in place with a goal of having market success."

ps5 for sure...but will considering xsx later, if there any worthy exclusive to buy assuming it wont come to pc on same time

i consider similliar things during this gen, but the absent of scalebound dissapointed me.

If you ignore that one of the highest rated games of the generation is coming out next week, that GOW beat RDR2 in GOTY awards and PlayStation has a GOTY contender almost every year, sometimes two...

Then ignore the 110 million consoles they sold.... and more to come. Then ignore the 70% of people that answered the poll above!

PlayStation is only growing in my opinion.

Hmmm.. fair enough. I am only gonna assume that the reason PS5 is more expensive is because of the I/O through-put

I don't think the extra 2.3 teraflops is as expensive as a stronger/faster SSD imo.

Either way, Xbox Series X will be the bang for your buck with all the value it will provide.

PS5 Physical $499
PS5 Digitial $449

Xbox Series X $399
Xbox Series S $299

My final predictions.

I was always getting XSX and yesterday's showcase just confirmed that decision for me. I'll wait to get a ps5 until naughty dog make something.

Gaming media has skewed heavily towards single player games for decades. They've mostly ignored or downplayed the quality, importance, and popularity of the industries best multiplayer games. Developers and publishers don't benefit from being awarded a certain number on Metacritic and OpenCritic. They are rewarded by player engagement numbers and player spending numbers.

I think the industry is primed for multiplayer growth. There's a "glass ceiling" on how successful a single player game can be.
