He controls the show. Remember when Forza Horizon 5 came out? It was in the time frame to be considered for GOTY, but because they had already sent out the voting forms to the delegates before it came out, it couldn't be considered.

Let's be brutally honest, his shows have turned into nothing more than big advertising programs that are as boring as fuck, and the ONLY reason any of us watch is to see if there are any new big game reveals.
 
Depends on if it truly does something innovative or is just "Fallout in Space". I think the deep dive showed us glimpses of that but is it really tries-and-true?

Because what Nintendo did with physics in ToTK is the best shit I've seen since Portal 2.

Right now tears is still my game of the year, not sure that's going to hold I'm in love with SF6 I rotate between that and Tears constantly to the point where Diablo 4 is just sitting. Then the FFXVI demo came out and I have more time in the demo than I do in anything else over the last two days.

Lets not forget - this is todd were talking about. If you can get on stage and lie through your teetth like that ( F76 ), anything is possible.

I have strong concerns about not getting exactly what was shown. Im keeping expectations in check just in case.

Gameplay is what matters. But Starfield is on PC as well so the lower framerate only really affect console gamers. Don't know where most of the fanbase will be but considering the Steam preorder stats and modding community I think it's safe to assume that lots of people will run this way above 30fps.
As for the thread topic. This is the year of Zelda TOTK as far as I'm concerned. I don't think anything will come close.

Bethesda's games' heart pales in comparison to Zelda's (more so TotK than that of BotW..!)

Prediction..:

TotK will look esthetically better to that of Starfield (vanilla at least); and Starfield's gameplay won't be as creatively free as that of TotK.



But I hope Starfield lives up to their best Fallout and TES titles.

Totk is one of the greatest games ever made, but starfield has a good chance of becoming goty if it is polished, fun and delivers! Some bugs here and there wont be the reason. It must be fun to play with deep mechanics. It has more planets than korrok seeds lol. So i wonder what can be done on the planets...
 
Way I look at it is, Starfield is the game we all dreamed about as kids. Building your own spaceship and heading out into an unknown galaxy with almost endless possibilities. Space the final frontier, explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no one has gone before 😁 yeah Starfield has got this in the bag.
 
I think I already posted in this thread but in case I have it, I think the new Zelda game will get Game of the Year.

Personally, I'd rather play Starfield. Maybe if it's really that good it has a chance but that Zelda game is kind of breaking records and has done things no other video game before has done.
 
I might be wrong of course but I think Final Fantasy XVI, Diablo IV and Spider Man 2 will have a bigger chance to go against Zelda than Starfield.

Of course, Zelda will win everything.

This game is going to be a generation game.
 
absolutely no way anything will top TOTK this year for me. It's not even close.. as much as I will probably enjoy Starfield I can't see it matching the genuine addiction I have for TOTK right now.

it looks incredible, but also, lets not forget a lot of games looked 'incredible' before release and ended up being scrutinized.

Especially after FO76 and FO4, lets wait and see how it actually does.

Starfield has a lot to prove, the game was delayed, a new IP, from Bethesda (the last generation game they launch was Skyrim back in 2011) and facing Zelda TOTK a true generation game will be tough. The game looks massive, but what it needs the most is a fun and addictive game loop that keep us engaged. It has a lot of potential, but I need to wait and see, unlike Nintendo Bethesda don't have the same level of consistency that give me confidence and praise their game as masterpiece before it launches.

That's what I'm thinking, Bethesda historically need some time to polish their games after the launch, Fallout 4 and specially Fallout 76 launched with a lot of problems and lack of content.

It already did with that showcase.
 
Bethesda hasn't released a great game in 10 years. A good presentation doesn't make a good game. Bethesda is also a bunch of hacks in terms of bugs on release, compare that to TOTK which had basically none. The game is releasing too late in the year for them to crowd source the fixes from the community of modders.

TOTK is sublime - I'd be absolutely shocked in Starfield turns out better.

This is an interesting take for sure!

I hope most folks have had a chance to play NMS…then and now.

I would argue that given the teams commitment to NSM, they have positioned themselves to be in a strong development position when comparing the two teams.

One released a half baked game, were RAKED over the coals for it, internalized the feedback, and executed an amazing turn around.

The other continues to release titles with (often unrealized) grandiose scale, that are continually held back by technology failings and a lack of quality assurance/polish. They never quite fix these titles before moving to the next "biggest game ever" and repeating the same cycle.

If I were in Maryland right now I would perform blood rituals to have my game release in anything close to the level of quality, polish, and content NMS has currently.
 
TOTK, FFXVI or Spider-Man 2.

The dev teams behind them are more competent. Can't judge a game by simply watching without playing either.
 
While ambitious, Bethesda games are always buggy, control terribly and lack polish, so no.

- ship building looks crazy and cool, as well as base building - on the actual building of them and decoration of them
- space combat looks good, ability to dock with ships instead of fight and take them out that way/steal ships - multiple ways to approach and interact with random space ships you come across
- lots of handcrafted content, different themes for different settlements
- sense of mystery and discovery looks strong, seems like you can stumble upon some really cool shit
- some type of space magic is in
- gravity effects gameplay - ballistic weapons push you back in the air when u fire a ballistic weapon/can almost fly on certain planets
- shooting doesn't look bad
- the starting traits of like who you are seen cool - gives you interesting interactions
- can modify nearly everything to a crazy degree, weapons, etc
- stuff with the objects looks cool physics wise - a person piled a bunch of sandwiches in her cargo hold and they all look to physically interact well

I've played NMS both the release version and the recent updates quite a bit - the problem is there's practically zero story or incentive to do anything. I've never felt that in Bethesda games tbh - I don't need much - but I need something

I hope you're right, at least this time I won't be burned if something goes wrong since the game will be available with my gamepass subscription. Like you, I really liked the showcase, I confess that I felt a bit underwhelmed when I saw the game footage last year, but the delay seems to be paid off in spades, the game looks a lot more polished. But Zelda TOTK is just in another level.

Yeah i watched the deep dive after tha post i wrote, not really a major use of nextgen physics or destruction or sandbox gameplay, more like a big ass bethesda game with a gigantic scope.

Still impressive of course but imo not enough to steal the goty from zelda.
 
Some of you should know better, buying into the hype. This is BETHESDA. I will be shocked if this is a GOTY contender at the end of the year, but I guess stranger things have happened.

The 30fps complaints are popping up left and right as if a PC version won't be there day 1. In other threads people keep saying they don't need a PS5 if exclusives would come out day 1 on PC.
