SAMCRO has been very much about exterior threats. Clay, as a threat, hasn't really existed as a reality to the club until last season. And that's just Jax and Opie. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to think that Pope could be playing puppet master -- he's a larger than life figure with influence that exists further than anyone in SAMCRO could imagine. I actually think it says something about the race relations with the club, something they've never been 100% perfect on.
For most of them sure, most didn't really even understand Clay losing his Pres spot. But if Jax, Tig, Bobby, or Unser even doubt for a second it's not Clay it's just dumb. Tig and Bobby knew most of Clay's shit first hand, and last we knew Tig was still pretty furious with Clay because he lost his daughter due to his manipulation the first time he blamed the Niners. Jax and Unser are fully aware of Clay's shit.
If Unser can think Clay just happened to be at his place at just the right time, and if Jax thinks the Niners actually tried to gun him down right after leaving Clay's it's just dumb. This episode just took it too far.
I would laugh if the other gunman was the last nomad. He just saw what happened to the other guys for going along with Clay, it would be hilarious if he continued to help him.
