I wish swiftdeath around to let me know if I'm off.we still have the rest Of August followed by 4 more months. Ps4 has been selling over a million a month so far. With destiny in September and holidays coming, 16m~17m looks alot more plausible.

16M - 17M WW by end of 2014 seems very doable. I think it's likely PS4 will sell at least 2.5M in the US from August to December as Nov. and Dec. tend to be strong months for all platforms. With the most recent look at the US|WW sales ratio at around 31%, that would actually suggest 8M so being a bit conservative would point towards 16M WW at end of 2014 as very feasible

They'll have at least 17 million of them shipped. And be at 20 million units by March 31. Its pace is slowing in comparison to other market leaders, but its huge start and continued acceptable level of sales should at least hit those levels. If this initial interest turns into what I think it has a chance to do (timely price drops are key) it can not only dominate, but it could rule on a PS2ian* level.

Or at least I hope. And this isn't some fanboy crap. The last Sony console I actually bought was a PS2. It died young and to get it repaired would have cost the price of a new system. So I was not pleased with them. I bought Nintendo and MS last gen. Loved both the Wii and 360 while skipping the PS3, PSP, and Vita entirely.

I just want at least one system to make a show of it. Impossible with WiiU. We were cheering about a single month above GCN levels because of just how low the bar is with that platform. One started at an insane high but has slowed drastically. While only being truly competitive in a single region. And by competitive I mean at least not being outsold by a lot. PS4 is the only shot to not see a hugely contracted market.

WiiU can't be saved and One is sinking slowly. If PS4 can't maintain at least 20 million units a year the home console market will be hurting very bad. MS will be lucky to have shipped 10 million units between Nov2013-Nov2014. I mean I'm not expecting Wii style fervor or anything but something that shows some sign of potential growth.

The cost of production for the style of game I really enjoy is becoming insanely high, and without a growing market to potentially sell too the interest in that market will wane. Meaning either less investment or a complete shift in focus to a more vibrant market.

So good show Sony. Do try to maintain the interest please.

On the subject of Japan.

I kind of think it's completely a lost cause. I don't think any home console is going to exceed 5 million units. Temporary jumps with the same floor through the generation. I don't think home consoles line up with current market realities in Japan. And this generation will make it clear just how much has changed. Total home console sales combined across all three home consoles I do not expect to exceed 11 million units. Contraction of around 10-13 million units gen over gen. Handhelds aren't going to be in much better shape though. I can see an easy 20 million unit contraction gen over gen there too.

Dedicated players are being hit hard in Japan in general. Right now the pain in the west is mainly being felt by handhelds and other casual oriented systems.
