Sony has reportedly blocked PlayStation Plus and PS Now subscription stacking (Update: stacking will resume when service launches, codes still valid)

I know for sure the now was mentioned from the beginning. Supposedly the stacking stopped Tuesday but not being able to add ps now on the site or through retailers has been going on for weeks and as FR back as last month.
It's not just PSNow, it's PS+.. you literally can't buy it right now.

Wait let me re-phrase.. you can go buy it right now at a store, or online, and then... not be able to use it lol

Why the fuck are people upset about a loophole being closed? How entitled are people? Not every company needs to give their products/services away for free to gain market share.

If you wanted to take advantage of the loophole, there was plenty of time to do so. And if you only want to pay for things that can be purchased via loopholes then I'm sure there are other companies that will cater to your needs.

Never seen so much fuss about nothing. These sorts of things get posted all the time on hotukdeals and you don't see people crying like this when the company decides to stop it.
IDEK how buying the service in bulk is really a loop hole...like "oh no people are locking themselves into our services legally for 6 years for cheaper than normal"...seems like a win to me, and an easy way to keep up the perception of good will.

Why the fuck are people upset about a loophole being closed?

Buying PSN at a grocery store, that Sony sells, at that store, then coming home to use it, is a loophole?

They didn't just close a loophole.. they blocked all PSN cards, even for those people who have no clue the new PS+ is coming, or the premium changeover.

Parents buying their kids PSN to play a new game, their kid can't play the game lol Yet, they paid for it.

Even if you were buying cards to have them convert to PS+, how is it a "loophole" when it is quite literally what was announced in a blog post? Sony are just cheap fucking twats with no sense of customer service.. they care more about people stacking cards to get PS+ premium than they do their ENTIRE USERBASE NOT BEING ABLE TO REDEEM PS+ cards.

Thats why the term loophole is weird...buying alot of a product sold by the company (be it through third or first party retailer) is a loop hole? Seems like a weird use of the term...not like you are changing your email address to "exploit" a oversight...

The cards were taken off sale earlier this year:

If purchasing from a grey market site then it's at your own risk.

All those paragraphs of upset for nothing.

I'm talking about PS+ cards.. they were not removed from anywhere...

All that sarcastic fuckwittedness for nothing.

edit 2; I said PSN in some places and P+ in others, which is the old name, I meant PS+ (or I guess PSN+? Either way, talking about the basic shit to play a game online.. hence my mention of a parent buying their kid a game to play.. which would make no sense for PSNow cards)

Half this thread doesn't seem to realize they blocked PS+ cards from working.

As I now PS Now wasn't available in non Sony stores since months ago. On Sony's site removed the 12 and 3 months option (but the lin still worked) and was only available to publicly buy 1 month. People started to use that hidden 12 months link and some time later Sony disabled it. And then maybe Monday or Tuesday Sony removed tthe option to buy a month of PS Now on their website.

So as far as I know since Tuesday or so you can't buy PS Now anywhere.

Seriously I feel like this thread title needs updating:

Pre-paid PS+ cards, that you can go buy and activate at a grocery store literally right now if you want to... were made useless, as Sony blocked the ability to redeem them.

PS+, not PSNow.

It's incredibly clumsy at the very least lol... yes you can redeem them after June 1st, but what the fuck does that do for people who.. want to play a game online for the next month+ and don't currently have PS+

Supposedly you can't even turn off auto-renew either.. they better fix that one before too long lol

I've spent thousands of dollars on Sony products, own at least a thousand Playstation games across 4 generations, own 2 PS5s, and I'm still not going to defend terrible practices because of it. It makes me wonder how these pathetic Sony fanboys acquired such a weird parasocial relationship with a corporation that they defend the dumbest shit. And, at least in this forum it's always the same handful of bootlickers.

Sony blocking these cards is bullshit, plain and simple.

So I have ps plus till 2025. When the new system comes in place, what's going to happen if I want to pay for one month of premium?

When GP was announced, Xbox Gold sold all the way through. Even if you activated GP and had an unused 12 month Gold card, you got a choice. Cash it in for 4 months of GPU, or hold onto it and wait for your GP to expire and then use it as a normal 12 month card. Your choice.

They never shut things down, delayed activation or stripped stores of Gold cards.

Your PS+ will convert into the low tier, and if you buy a month of premium, I bet it'll be active a month and push your ps+ lower tier sub expiring back a month. Assumptions of course.

Just noticed ethomaz got permed. He would’ve had a scorching take on this for sure.

Sony should just keep PS Now but not allow new subscribers, and all new customers are sent to premium. It would also be free money from the people who bought Now because they want the highest tier as they'll buy it again.

Looks like Sony may be scrambling to pull PS+ cards from shelves, considering they just made them useless until June lol

Was just in my local Morrisons and saw them pulling the PS Plus cards from the tills and gift card area. Person doing it had some kind of paperwork, couldn't see if it was like a recall notice or something but found it interesting in light of things.

Also might just be the retailer doing it on their own accord, considering how many complaints the big retailers are probably facing w/ cards not working that people just bought.

What sucks is now I have to auto-renew or risk getting locked out games again like the last time I let my subscription lapse for a day.

They stopped selling PS Now cards a while ago now.

The good thing about Amazon is that they are great with refunds though so I wish you luck with that.

They've already said this for PS+ cards:

“This is only temporary and as soon as we have more information about [it] we will let our players know”

Also if you don't have an existing subscription the PS+ cards redeem perfectly fine. So I'm sure all the little timmys with expired subscriptions will be fine when their parents grab them a code.

Maybe the title/OP should also be updated with that information but it doesn't fit the agenda so who cares right?

Doesnt even make sense to pull cards.

If someone wants to buy 5 years worth of cards, go ahead let them cash in. Those 5 years will convert to the base Essentials tier which is the same thing. Sony would have shit loads of gamers locking themselves into the essentials plan. And then if they want to top up to mid or premium, they can later when the service goes live.

So what's the worry?

Well I mean if cards work for those w/o an active account that is quite a bit better.

Still fucking hilarious how bad Sony is at this shit.

And what agenda? Give it a rest. Slob sonys nob and tell other's they have an agenda lol

Yep the PS+ cards are only not redeeming for those who already have active PS+ subscriptions. All of that information is in the article linked in the OP, not sure how you missed that during your investigations.

And believe me, it's not I who needs to "give it a rest".

Oh so loyal customers are the only ones who can’t buy…phew good to know. Was worried for a bit. You see why it makes no sense to try and flip it as being okay? It’s bad no matter how you try to slice it.

All of the people pretending to be outraged by this, can I just ask; has this effected you directly? I’m guessing you were all about to stack 5 years of Plus any day now?

If not, can you show me any Twitter/Reddit/social media post of anyone who this has effected directly, or is even arsed in the slightest by this?

I dont shill for sony but I dont see the problem legally or other wise Sony is changing the price of PSN/PS NOW and changing the Product and back end "codes" they are updating the price so now the physical cards which are attached to the old activation codes don't work. This would be no different then buying a EB games gift card that that 10+ years old and walking into game stop and wondering why they don't accept it.

I think it'd be more like buying an EB Games gift card this morning and then being told you can't use it until June 15th.

It's not 10+ year old cards, it's cards still being sold right now, that you can't use if you have a PS+ account.

yeah but the difference is XBLG had ALWAYS limited stacking to 3 years, it’s not like with PS+ where Sony is faced with people like me who have 10 years stacked up from sales over the years

it’s mostly the usual suspects who also as usual are acting like Sony won’t possibly ever allow these codes to be redeemed again

could Sony have handled this better? obviously, they should have announced it instead of people finding out from customer service when they ask why the code isn’t working (I doubt they would have given advance warning or people would have stacked a bunch before the deadline)

You don’t have to be a direct consumer to find something ridiculous. Also this is a gaming topic in a gaming forum…what kind of conversation you expect?

Edit: don’t have ps+. Had it for a year when it came with the PS5. May renew it depending on what the service offers.

There’s nothing ridiculous about it. They have stopped allowing people to stack. They pulled 12 month cards from their website and retail 3 months ago in the UK. When the new service launches, you’ll probably be able to stack again.

Yes it’s a gaming forum, one which heavily trends against subscription services in general. I’d expect more than the typical faux outrage to be honest but I can see that’s a big ask.

If Sony allows 10 years of stacking, then what's the issue?

A gamer locks in 10 years, converts to Essentials in June, and if he wants to top up to a better tier he can do that on his own.

All Sony has to do is track how much base tier codes someone has inputted into their profile and convert. And then for PS Now, covert that to that accurate amount for the prem tier (if someone has 8 months of PS Now, they get 8 months of Prem).

Sony doesn't have to do the Xbox way where they let you top up Gold with GP with one cheap GP payment and you get it for all 3 years.

These are the facts:
  • If you don't currently have a subscription you can redeem a key perfectly fine.
  • If you have an existing subscription you will have to wait before redeeming the key (once Sony allow them to be redeemed again or as soon as your existing subscription expires - whichever comes first)
  • If you are a current subscriber who is waiting your current subscription continues to work as it should
So who exactly am I supposed to be upset for and why?

How do you think this got to be a story in the first place? Actual customers weren't able to redeem products they purchased and then complained, and it snowballed from there.

What, do you think this happened to no one and then some reporter decided to make a story about it?

If you want to find people affected by this try opening your eyes. Literally every gaming site and social media has people talking about not bring able to redeem their PS Now or Plus codes.

For the record, I'm not outraged, and I'm set on both services, but it's still a garbage move by Sony and I have no problem calling them out on it. The bigger question is why so many of you are so quick to defend an obvious dick move?

IntentionalPun

FYI it still would be worthwhile to buy some cheap PS+ cards, as they are allegedly going to be off the market soon.

You can then redeem them after June 15th.

I think I'm gonna do that, as I don't really care about PS+ Premium but want my PS+ essential cheaper than Sony is gonna charge.

Faux outrage is people being upset about puddles in a video games. Expecting clear communication from a company with some of the most loyal people isn’t faux outrage. No matter how you slice it it’s messed up to block the use of legally purchased goods without clear and consideration communication. Sadly with gaming anything against the company one roots for is deemed as console warring.

Well I checked the PS5 thread about this and I could see about 3 comments of people saying they can’t redeem a code. Ok? Next time redeem your code when you get it. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

I’m not defending shit, I’m attacking the fake people who pretend to care about something that’s effecting less than 0.1% of PS users who will, with near certainty, be compensated my Sony.
