He's not saying anything different. The question is how soon are games coming to PC, mobile and Cloud.
This is Phil Spencerish PR talk just with a Japanese accent as far as I'm concerned. Need more details.
Yoshida is saying there the same Sony always said and have done.
Their main game focus is their console, but they also have been doing computer games (or porting some of their games to PC) since the '80s, and mobile games since mobile games started to be a thing in the '00s.
They plan to contine growing in console, PC and mobile, but their main focus and business is and will continue being their own console.
Their plans for PC: some of their game (not all) will be ported to PC, around 2 years of more after their original release on PS. In the case of some GaaS that may be ported (GT7, MLB and Firewall Ultra weren't) will release on PC day one. They will partner (or already partnered) with some Asian studio for some Asian focused title focused mainly on mobile+PC which I assume will also release on console (think Genshin Impact but with a Sony IP). On top of that, PS+ cloud gaming.
The number of PS5 exclusive games (1st + 2nd + 3rd party) released every year will continue being bigger than the number of titles they release on PC, so over time the amount of PS exclusive games will grow instead of decreasing. Even if some of these exlusives in the future get ported.
Their plans for mobile: acquire or create new internal development teams and partner with top mobile gaming devs and publishers to bring their IPs to mobiles. Some of ther games would also have PC and maybe console versions (think Genshin Impact but with a Sony IP). Sony would also partner with select buotique devs to support them make small gems, some times also using Sony IPs. On top of that, as they said back in 2013 and 2019, PS+ cloud gaming.
Both PC and mobile would generate extra profitability that would help pay their console AAA games, would increase their revenue and fanbase helping also to grow their console and brands. Same goes with movie/tv show adaptations. They'd also reinvest that money to grow their gaming business (investments, acquisitions, growing existing teams, funding R&D...), obviously including their console too.
Isn't this the same interview from months ago that has been discussed ad nauseoum?
Yes
You guys can believe what you want. Jim shut down day 1 talks, so is this guy.
And Hermen Hulst too. No plans for PS Studios SP games on PC day one.
If that's your only comeback it shows what state Sony is in
The state of Sony is being a clear market leader in consoles breaking these years many all time gaming history records for any console maker. And depending on the quarter also beating Tencent as the top 1 gaming company in the world.
Regarding their exclusive games, they sell better than ever and win more awards than ever. They grew all their teams, acquired new ones and are working on more 1st party games than ever before.
Sony is in better state than ever has been.
