Sony looking to expand PlayStation Studios titles to Xbox and Nintendo, according to Job Listing

Exactly.

What's sad is. I saw a couple of posts yesterday where sony fans were saying they only buy and play exclusive games.

So, these people are literally going to stop doing what they enjoy because other people can play the game too?

Its crazy the conditioning these companies can do to the psychology of a "fan"

Its like stockholm syndrome or something.
It's bonkers how irrational humans are, as if the game suddenly becomes less fun because you can play it on another box with different badge and form factor.

Yet they don't think that way with most other products: "damn, this TV Show was trash on my Samsung TV but it was hilarious on an LG TV set."

This is the best move that Sony could ever make. Putting their games on Nintendo and Xbox will bring in more revenue and profit combined. True sony fans should want this for their favorite company.

sony is going to be more profitable than both Nintendo and Xbox combined now that they're going truly third-party.

I say let Nintendo be the only company with exclusives, that's their prerogative. Sony doesn't have to be like Nintendo. Let Sony do what they want. This is how they feel so let PlayStation what they want. Let them be the biggest most powerful third-party publisher in the industry. It's not like they won't have their own platform to cater to once in a while. I truly support this move by PlayStation.
Come again? Just to get the record straight, you're insinuating it would be best for Nintendo to take the same path and become a 3rd party pub too?

Btw, I see you posted the near exact same post in 3 different places. Including Icon-era.

Humans can't help but being somewhat tribal, but the level of corporate worship you see on the net is just sad. People should not be upset at this direction, but here we are

How are our friends at iconera holding up I wonder

I hope they let you choose to play as Samus as a bonus, it really just needs unlimited save rooms and backtracking and it's pure Metroid.

I think OG god of war trilogy and uncharted collection are ripe for porting too. But I mostly want GT on Xbox seeing as forza motorsport is dead. Pretty much leaves GT as the only sim-cade on the market.

They could port current GT to pC and Xbox and make a version for switch 2 with Atleast PS level visuals….. probably?

other good Candidates for porting would be ico, shadow of colossus, patapon ( that one has gotta be a perfect fit for a Nintendo along with astrobot) and puppeteer. Maybe some jack and daxter.

We had signs…

It's instructive to see people's reactions.

The fact is that we can now say that "other platforms" meant XBOX and Switch, and it wasn't just a matter of green rats and desperate Nintendo fans creating a new #SonyToo narrative.

Releasing PS games to Xbox and Switch was, of course, a decision made a long time ago. In this industry and its actual state.... no one can guarantee anything. Putting your hand in the fire for someone is a profession of absolute risk.😅

It's GaaS (but it won't stop the torrent of takes here)

This is what is Xbox guys used to say. I'll be here to console you, when it's more than gaas. It's ok. We was in denial too. Then the single player games popped up on everythin that wasn't an Xbox. Now we just accept it. And accept the new paradigm of this industry.

I read a good article about the changes happening the other day on some website. They was talking to a former square exec. Interesting read. Not suprised to see Sony following Microsoft's lead again with unpopular choices that ultimately are a reflex to changes in consumer habits.

The old console model is dead and Mindy so will be the last ones. But even they will have to adapt to whateve the future holds especially if that future involves leaving their own hardware behind. We ain't there yet, but we get closer every year. Walled gardens are a thing from the 2010s. Doesn't really works for today or tomorrows consumer. The idea of owning multiple consoles for differ games is getting outdated. It sounds crazy to people over 35 but hey…. They…. We… are not the future of gaming.

Yes, I'm following this story on multiple threads. No I did not say Nintendo should be a 3rd party publisher. I said let Nintendo be the only console manufacturer that see the value in exclusives and keep their own games on their own system. I think Sony should be the one to go 3rd party just like Microsoft. It will be good for Sony because they'll make more money than Nintendo and Microsoft. So Sony should just put their games everywhere and continue supporting their own platform simultaneously.

I think Nintendo should keep their exclusive games to themselves. I hope that makes sense to you now because you clearly misread what I said.

The problem is their strategy to expand to PC was combined with GAAS, and woke/boring Ubisoft open world games strategy.

The strategy to make more Playstation traditionnal games was almost abandonned, if not completely bar 2 small companies, Housemarque and Asobi that cost nothing to operate. They can't get rid of Asobi because they test all Playstation joypads since decade ago! There is also Polyphony Digital that still do really good Gran turismo games.

They asked Bluepoint to make a GAAS game, not Single player game like Demon's Souls 2, only to be canceled 4 years later. Those people (including me) want Playstation exclusives games the likes of God of War 18, Astro-bot or Demon's Souls.

Hopefully comes true, probably driven by the amazing success of FH5, at this point its so stupid to keep your games on one system its hard to imagine how its been like that for years.

Unless you are Nintendo, but lets not get it twisted both Nintendo and Sony make most of their money from hardware sales, so as long as those are still compelling enough they will sell.

I dont think people buy console games because they are on sony playstation systems, they buy them there because they already have sony playstation systems.
The amount of people buying a PS5 just for something like DS2 is miniscule.

The amount buying a home console to have a home console and play a library is pretty much the entire user base.

They should start thinking about selling first party on everything , its more inclusive, everyone buys the games and most importantly the amount of money they will make will be astronomical.

I dont think it would effect Playstation console sales at all, as long as they offer something different like a home console style device that is quick and easy to use.

I doubt we will see a flood of Sony games on other boxes, but I'd happily pick up a couple of titles.

Maybe it is far too late but I'd like the industry to look again at a standard format / spec. Otherwise the console will just keep increasing in price. We need them being made at scale like dvd players / tvs to bring the cost down.

Nothing is funnier than PS fanboys making fun of Xbox multiplatform strategy, while Sony themselves just think Nadella, Phil Spencer etc are geniuses for going multiplatform and can't wait to join them in going multiplatform.

I didn't misread anything. I'm questioning the underlying message in your response. Clearly, Nintendo going the same 3rd party route would be great for their profitablity too if that's the case, no?

This is a short-sighted strategy that may probably gain them some kind of temporary advantage in the short term, but potentially damage themselves in the long run not to mention rot away trust. Remember the quote that Larry Hyrb laid out before what happened to current day MS/XBox: "Trust is earned in drops and lost in buckets".

If the implication of this job ad happens to be what people believe it indicates, don't be surprised if this will eventually lead to the PS brand being less attractive and valueable than Nintendo.

If PS have decided to release games on other consoles, great who gives a shit as long as you can play the game on the device of your choice.

These companies don't give a shit about you ....

That's like Netflix shows appearing on other services.

I don't like this. Yeah it makes them more money, but it smells of cuckery and weakness.

1. Console brands lose identity if everything comes to everything
2. Takes away the competitive fire that produces megahits
3. RIP console wars

Unless this just refers to live service games, and well, I guess that makes sense.

Whatever, I'm basically zoned out these days anyway. I'd like to see a new challenger enter (Apple?) and shake things up.

More evidence that their focus is still in live service games.

If you are expecting Sony to go back to single player games on PS6 you'll be very disappointed. They will crash their business to the ground, before they realize that chasing GaaS is the most stupid thing they have ever done, and will ever do.
People keep saying this ludicrous thing but they never left single player for them to go back to it. What was the last GaaS game? Meanwhile the 3 games by Sony right now, Astrobot, DS2, Ghost of Yotei. All of them singleplayer. Even in the year that Concord released you had more single player releases than GaaS. It was just that Helldivers 2 was massive.

Sony is already multiplatform to some extent, but they would still do well if they released their games on other consoles too. They have the market for powerful gaming consoles all to themselves. Xbox is no longer a serious competitor

It might be SEGA who re-enters the console fray. Danny Dudekisser seems to have suggested possibility behind that happening at some point.

You guys are reading too much into that quote and it absolutely was a #Sonytoo. That quote is from feb 2024. Lego Horizon launched in Nov 2024 so other platforms wasn't exactly new to them anyway. They obviously were just talking about increasing sales for titles for margin on their limited multiplat releases. Now though has it really worked out? Xbox has died and lego Horizon has sold like shit on Switch.

Xbox guys used to say it's just GaaS games going to other platforms? That makes no sense. How when the rumour of the first game was Hifi rush? When Switch got Ori years before was that a GaaS? If anything it's the GaaS games that they hadn't brought over and started doing later when xbox had completely collapsed. xbox guys have never said this. The strategies clearly differ.

All the debate about how Sony would take the battle to Nintendo in the Japanese market and it turns out the grand strategy for their comeback in Japan is...porting their games to Switch 2 so Japanese people buy their games on Switch 2.

PS handheld dead on arrival.

I find it funny that some people get so worked up about this sort of thing!

First reply pretty much covered it. Most likely about GAAS generally and I suspect Bungie specifically. Because that particular management team is not doing well at all, and unless they turn things around by the end of the financial year seem likely to be replaced by Sony based on the terms of the acquisition.

Crazy thing is it looks, or rather sounds - given recent articles - like some independent studios are pondering whether or not to ship to Xbox.
Cost of porting/QA is trivial to Sony as they already have full departments and studios dedicated to the task.

Also their games carry enough cachet and name recognition to garner more sales on Xbox than most other players. I think people will be surprised by the Circana results when Helldivers 2 comes out on Xbox. And even if it doesn't sell you still have a massive value unlock for Nintendo Switch 2.
