Such a lame excuse... the whole corona buzz is just a tool to mess with world's economy. Like ~2k died and mostly in china and it's the old people with chronic diseases. ~15K recovered. Those are baby baby numbers compared to some other flu/virus. I bet every year more people die due to the complications caused by the seasonal flu. Once again fucking media fucking terrified everyone for no real fucking reason, really.

Honestly every time I see somebody mention the flu in the same breath as this virus I want to slap them.
The flu is a well known and researched virus, we have vaccines and specific treatment methods that we know work. We also know how the flu effects people and how it is likely to effect them.
This is something new that is not well researched and has proven to be deadly. Until we are at a stage where we have vaccines and treatment methods that are proven to be adequate enough to tackle it then people should exercise caution.
Oh and to people using this as an excuse to console war - you sad motherfuckers.

UPDATE: Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment made the decision to cancel its participation at PAX East in Boston this year due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as “novel coronavirus”). We felt this was the safest option as the situation is changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation in this event, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern.

It's not until a ton of people show up in one place and a single person has it. Take China for example, from one or more people to 75,000 (supposedly several times more unreported cases) in a few weeks. Nothing wrong with being cautious when people's lives are at stake.

God forbid they protect their employees. It seems like a reasonable policy to not attend any events until they see where all of this goes. This is one of the most elusive viruses we have ever dealt with in our history. Unlike the flu (1 to 2 day incubation) it can incubate for 14+ days and live outside of the body for 5+ days. Thousands could be infected from a single person which makes this tricky to deal with. Anyone who complains about this is an entitled idiot.

You sound very educated considering you didn't even get the category of virus correct. China is going to some pretty extreme lengths and spending billions of dollars to stop the overblown virus. Maybe you should gather more information and observe whats happening before coming to such an immediate conclusion.

Problem is many that get infected require medical treatment such as oxygen. Even if they don’t often die and recover. But too many people getting it means the collapse of the health system = more deaths.

Ok here, let's experiment.
Walk into your local hospital where there are trained medical professionals, sit in the waiting area along with everyone else and then when you get seen tell them you have the coronavirus. Don't forget to tell them it's just like the flu while they hazmat up and whisk you away from civilization and into isolation.
Let us know how it was once you get out.

Well they canceled a lot of local, non-gaming events here in my country and we've got like 3 confirmed cases (all Chinese foreigners, 1 died due to complications, 2 recovered already).
