But that's an appeal to authority fallacy. They certainly do have information we don't—hard sales numbers and the complete development timeline of the company, for starters—but knowing more doesn't automatically mean the decisions they make with that information any better. These same leaders had that same suite of information when they green lit bomb after bomb while tripping over themselves to try to follow live service trends (without the vision and passion to understand what made the OG giants and innovators in the space successful).

Sure, they have their reasons, but their track record—especially for consumers that loved their first party offerings—doesn't and shouldn't inspire confidence that they're making the right call here.

They absolutely did. The Demon's Souls remake is a disgrace. I love the origial and remember being excited about this remake when it just got announced, but at the time I didn't know much about bluepoint. Shame it turned out being such a waste of opportunity, and an egregious one at that.

Great, did you see those AI renderings of DKC from SNES, looks sick. A bit dev input a bit more AI (lol) and we would have great stuff in a year of devtime.
One could sense sometime ago when in PS4 era remasters began to swarm the platform, risk was too dangerous, games were already "safer" and shittier. Like PS4 will only be remembered as Bloodborne/GTAV console in 10 years.

Seems like the "Bluepoint were never good" gaslighting has begun. The fanboys are now spinning the leaked 2024 sales figures as a negative to use as some freak justification for killing the company.

Remember that Sony acquired Bluepoint 1 year after Demon's Souls Remake had released and already sold the bulk of its copies. Now why would Sony look at Bluepoint's financial performance and choose to acquire a studio who apparently were never actually any good and made games which sold poorly? Are large conglomerates frequently in the business of acquiring losers? The answer is no, of course not, and that Sony must've been happy with the sales of their games at the time of purchase.

So the shitting on the sales figures is really just a deranged, post hoc justification being deployed by the fanboys to excuse yet another terrible outcome resulting from Sony's mismanagement. And it is mismanagement, because what idiot in the Sony top brass would say to themselves "let's acquire this developer specifically known for great remakes, and then not have them continue to work on great remakes"?

The spin at this point then places the blame on Bluepoint for apparently not wanting to work on remakes any more and instead wanting to work on their own (live service) game. Even if that were true, competent management should've be able to identify a mismatch in skillset and say "no". If Bungie turned round and said they were really big baseball fans, should Sony indulge a request to let them work on MLB?

If Sony didn't think they actually needed a remake factory, perhaps they shouldn't have fucking bought them to begin with. Maybe then Bluepoint may still be alive today.

The Defense Force is usually from those Corpo Bootlickers that defend any misshap made by those Executives (Like seriously being a Console Fanboy to the point of ignoring someone's sense of judgement or basic critical thinking skills just because the said Executive Leads your favourite Gaming Brand/Company, no wonder Phil Spencer and Hermen Hulst gained some sort of Celebrity Status 🫩) just because they can't criticize your favourite Gaming Company. Any normal Gamer would rightfully criticize how bad the management is from those Executives without blaming the innocent Devs that were basically forced to make those Games

Media Molecule is a very Talented developer with a great Portfolio of acclaimed Games and Game/Tool hybrids. LBP was one of the few "Live Service" Sony had during the PS3, and it actually might be one of the few things which inspired the Release of Minecraft a year later.

There was nothing like it during those days. I hope the silence from them meand that they've been working on a very creative, probably innovative game. If they close MM, I might actually just stick to PC gaming instead.

Also you want to rely on "Live Service" but didn't have any LBP game in development that might benefit from it???? Really shows how "smart" and "great" Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst were, when they pitched those "GA(A)S" Ideas

I know they had LBP "Hub" in development at some point, they could've resurrected that Idea, If they want to push for more Live Service Games + Plus LBP already had an established Fanbase....

I like Bluepoint and I don't agree with SIE's current direction but BP delivered a Demon's Souls remake that didn't sell gangbusters and 5 years later nothing else besides support work. I can imagine they don't come cheap to maintain.

And as far as a Bloodborne remake goes. Really, a lot of x-enhanced and reverse engineered projects like Sonic Unleashed are flawless without touching the core gameplay. And if the game is altered, we've seen that Bloober did a great job on SH2.

You don't really need BP for a good Bloodborne remaster. I think this is kind of the problem, they were ahead of the curve with God of War way back but nowadays I wouldn't invest in a remaster studio.

And BTW it's still one of the most beautiful game out there, i keep playing everiday , all classes, diferent classes / weapons / build combos and i still get alot of fun doing it (545 hours), and i never played s Souls like game before

They were bought almost 1 year after demons souls launched... who chose to put then doing support work for another year ? then greenlighted a gaas project to a studio with zero experience on the subject ? And then let this project run loose for maybe 4 years before finally canceling ?

I can agree that maybe sony looked and saw no future in 2026 for a personal remake studio afterall 5 years changes a lot of things internally and externally, but the mismanagement of the asset/talent that was bluepoint in this 5 years is just abundantly clear.

I still haven't bought Demon's Souls remake since I have the digital PS5 and PS5 games costs a fortune even during all time low 50% of which is around 50 EUR and I'm not sure I would like the remake more than the PS3 original.

This shows that Sony should lower the digital prices and raise physical prices. Just imagine how many copies are changing hands from home to home without gaining revenue.

Better if they lower digital prices to affordable levels so they can sell more copies

It's been $30 on PSN. I actually bought that one physically at $30 too.
