Sony to be conservative with its multiplatform releases in order to protect the value of the PS5 console

It seems that day one games on PS5 and PC are moving away, Sony will be more conservative.
I imagine it will stay as it is. Online multi-player games will be day one, everything else won't.

They are just stating they aren't going to start porting everything to PC day one or even at all, like so many people claim they are 100% sure is happening.

When I drop a laugh emoji on one of your posts it's because I'm genuinely laughing, not because I'm upset.

There's a difference.

It's funny because they are reiterating the strategy they have been doing for 5 years with no changes, and somehow it's getting a headline

The obvious implication of this is that they KNOW that porting their games to PC harms the value of the PS5, yet there are dopes on this website trying to convince me of the opposite. They're trying to walk a tightrope and prediction - it's not going to work.
The article says nothing like the title does lol.

If Sony is individually looking at each title and figuring out the right time to port to PC for maximum mindshare and profit then obviously that's the best scenario compared to 'one blanket solution for all strategy'.

If a game failed, port it sooner. If critics loved it but not many gave it a chance, port it sooner.
If its a blockbuster megaton, release 6 months before the next title. If your another exclusive game got delayed, release something else on PC. etc

Well that's not stopped certain people begging them to follow Microsoft's strategy.

First they begged them to follow the day and date strategy for the subscription service, and now they are begging them to follow the PC day one strategy.

I wonder why.

The best thing that happened with Xbox was when Microsoft decided to release Xbox games at the same time on PC because it meant I got a better looking, better running, cheaper version of the game.

The worst thing that happened with Xbox was when Microsoft decided to release Xbox games at the same time on PC because it meant that there was now more reasons to not even own an Xbox console at all. My Xbox Series X has not been used in over a year since I upgraded my PC with an RTX 4080 graphics card.

I own a PS5 Pro and bought the PS5 at launch (but not the Xbox Series X) based on the amount of enjoyment I got from my PS4/PS4 Pro which had fantastic first-party single player exclusives that appealed to me a solo-only gamers who has zero interest in any type of online multiplayer or live service titles.

While the early days of the PS5 were a bit lacking with the cross-gen period and limited number of exclusives, I still felt that the console at least delivered a worthwhile next-gen experience with gems like Astro's Playroom, Ratchet & Crank: Rift Apart, Returnal, etc. and that awesome DualSense controller, certainly in comparison to the massively disappointing Xbox Series X which launched with basically no exclusives for the first two years of its existence. It was why I didn't buy an Xbox Series until over a year after its release and then I only bought one because my old PC couldn't run new games and it was during COVID when it was hard to buy a new GPU nevermind at actual MSRP (which ironically is still happening now!).

When Sony started releasing games on PC, I was happy because being released later meant that I still had a reason to own a PS5 plus games like Astro Bot and Gran Turismo 7 have yet to appear on PC. I think that releasing PS5 games on PC 12 to 18 months later is the best strategy personally. I think that if Sony started releasing games on PS5 and PC that it would not only damage sales of the console but could also lead to a drop in quality in the games themselves as developers have to support two formats (plus PC is a platform that requires significantly more effort due to the near infinite number of hardware combinations).

1. It also meant that games had to be developed for a multitude of PC specs increasing cost and dev time

2. It also contributed to people leaving Xbox console ecosystem

Be careful what you wish for or PlayStation will go the way of Xbox and Sega.

I would say, if they offer rtx5080 level performance in $600 console, that would give a solid competition to PC.

People will opt for Playstation instead.
Most people don't care or even know about specs of the consoles they are playing. It's 2025 and 40% of Playstation active users still plays on a 2013 hardware, and the PS4 was obsolete still since launch. The same can be said about Switch and Switch 2.

People choose their platform for a lot of reasons, but definitely not based on specs. Even on PC, most Steam users plays in a mid-gen GPU.

This maybe if PC gaming was only about performance.

Well, then they may consider some opening up of platform?

But am not sure what demographic prefers what. Am sure Sony has data and they can make console attractive to maximum number of users.

But they prefer not to go in direct competition am afraid.

Not even AMD are able to offer that with their discrete GPUs. What are you going on about?

Not for long.

They would definitely choose higher performance machine if price was right.

1. Doesn't matter if they make more money in the end.

2. Doesn't matter for anyone other than fanboys.

With the advances on upscaling the differences will get more and more negligible imo.

Just look at Switch 2's internal resolution and the resulting picture when games implement DLSS. It's super sharp.

I'm highly disappointed to say the least! 😭

They should have cancelled
those undeserved "pc-ports"
and removed existing ones!

I'm glad and have been saying forever I hope they pull them back.

I hope they pull all their non-gaas games off PC. That would be best for their future.

The key is providing a purpose for your console. Without exclusives there is no purpose. Every SP exclusive Sony shits out on PC that does not sell, is time in the future that they will not have to continue their console business. When there are no exclusives there is no Playstation. PC gamers will be pissed hearing this but they know it is true. They HOPE Playstation dies. That is why you should dance with the one that brought you instead of looking over at the PC crowd brothel thinking they will save you. They will only hasten the degradation of the brand. If people want to play Playstation games they should have to buy a Playstation console. This is not a difficult or new concept and Sony is fuckin it up. The Playstation brand will not last if it deluded by PC releases, so they need to get on this asap. Xbox says play anywhere. We say play on Playstation.

So nothing is changing. Are you going to make a thread every day that nothing is changing, OP?

Nothing is changing is at odds with those who have said that day one PC ports will happen. And I include myself in that. Don't blame the OP because you just don't like the news.

Hilarous in hindsight to look at Sony investors being nervous about Switch 2 getting more third party support, looking at the last week's announcements of coming games, the last thing Sony should be worried about is Switch 2 getting more third party support than Switch got.

Did a investor ask the obvious question..." What fuck are doing"
But I doubt this will mean anything in the long run.

Lol no. See Fast Fusion. Base resolution still matters the same as always plus other graphics and non graphics aspects too.

Their SP games are flopping on PC. It's not worth devaluating their Brand. The only thing they are doing is encouraging people at buying a PC and eventually spending their money there with the likes of COD or Fortnite. Valve must be happy though.

Keep dreaming. Sony will stay porting their games, we will pirate them, and we will mod master chief in each and every single one.

Sony games are coming to PC and there's nothing you can do to stop this. All that extra money they make on PC funds more games. Once you start putting games on PC you never go back.

What games are Sony supposed to publish on other platforms? They dont have any games in production that would make sense to port to Xbox, except older games of course. For new games, what do they have except from Wolverine and Intergalactic?

Its a different situation for Xbox, who now owns a huge amount of IPs, and the console market and especially the Xbox isnt big enough to make good business. They have to find more channels for their output now that they have outgrown the console space and need to expand. They would have done this multi platform approach even if they were no 1 on console because its capped at around the 100 million players +- or something like that.

So - what games would Sony even be considering porting to Xbox at this point?

Quality has already taken a huge hit in the lack of meaningful use of the PlayStation hardware this gen by first party studios under Hulst's damaging stewardship - nothing to stop, be wowed by and then consider a differentiator from the same generic designed shinier PC port 12months later with this strategy and the promise of meaningful hardware use already made meaningless by the Pro's premature release.

But the real problem IMO is that the competition by PC for these generic game ports gains over base PS5 with every passing month killing off the previous gen desires to pick up games on a whim down the line at platinum pricing. The PC port being shinier and cheaper ultimately devalues the impulse platinum purchase the most for me, and on balance I suspect the money lost from more sales of games as platinum releases - at a fixed price point - is far more than the peanuts PC ports bring in and the damage they do to the brand.

lol after the sales of stellar blade he will shut the fuck up and more ports will be coming .

These losers don't care about the PlayStation value but the short term profit on the expense of the PlayStation brand rendering it useless the minute they started ported their exclusive high profile games to pc in barely 1 year after release
