Don't understand the concept of sororities. In my country there are not such "things" or "social clusterfucks" or "social cluster to be popular". I'm from Colombia. Guess we have bigger problems that blonde tan chicks and mascots doing the twerk. I guess they are intelligent enough to pass their bachelor degrees and mayors, if they have time to do weird videos of the sorority life. Again I don't understand the culture of Universities in US. In my country we go to class and then to home and the cycle repeat for 5-8 years.

So, a club exclusively for white, hot, [probably rich] girls is totally okay, because discrimination doesn't exist, especially not in Alabama.
I mean, single individuals likely have next to no fault, and the video really isn't anything offensive... but perpetuating that attitude that rich-only, white-only, hot-only clubs are good and should just "let be" is pretty strange for GAF.

Sororities and Fraternities don't make sense to me fundamentally.

I guess they're meant to be glamorous and this is what that means to them?

They're communities, basically. Except they exist in a very specific context, and only allow very specific kinds of people.

Lifestyle, social interaction, academic values, all that jazz.

If you really get down to it, Frats and Sorors are like gangs. They rep a color, have hand gestures, initiations, and call signs and they'll fight other Frats/Sorors if they feel disrespected.

Considering how much debt we go to in here in the US for college, you'd think we'd automatically get sorority/fraternity membership...

It's a very American concept for sure. Along with the immense focus on College Sports. In Canada colleges and universities are really there just for studying and maybe getting away from parents and going to parties.

Sorry don't understand that last comment. Sarcasm? Reality? Joke? I think that being part of a gang or pose is an exception or is like a wish for the youngsters be part of them?

Basically everyone who wants to join a frat or sorority will get into one, at least on most large campuses...no matter how socially inept or awkward you are.

Typically people who don't join one simply don't wish to participate, they're not wishing to get into one or anything. They may not get into the one they wanted to but they'll get in somewhere.

One of my college professors had a theory that fraternities exist so that men can act out some of their homoerotic desires in a socially acceptable way. It was pretty funny watching him tell guys this who he knew were in fraternities.

There are a few who don't get picked at times, especially if the pledge class happens to be quite large. Though it is still pretty correct, they tend to let most people in atleast from what I've seen

It always seems like there are several without houses that are looking for members from what I remember. Then you have your academic greek organizations that are very low key.

Maybe I'm wrong though!

No, choosing something because it is appealing is not random. Do you just randomly buy clothes at a store by walking in and just grabbing the first five shirts you see? Or do you actually try many on and see what looks good on you? One is random, the other isn't, and the difference is how it is chosen.

Again, it is not given meaning "after the fact." It was given meaning when it was chosen. The flower of my sorority, for example, was chosen because all of the founders loved the flower and the flower grew on the riverbanks where they hung out often. Simple explanation, but a) not random, and b) not given meaning "after the fact."

i'm sorry, weren't we talking about greek letters and not a flower

did king arthur hang out on that riverbank with them?

i think all white, all black, all any race social sororities and fraternities are kinda defeating the purpose. i thought the purpose to was to grow a friendship and a bond, why would skin color be in the way? Thats dumb and a very backwards thought. And its blatantly racist, why are these allowed at all?
