Salmon Run is insane, I hope this never gets old. I've been sitting around 140% for about two hours now, and yet every match feels new and exciting. The night stages are the killers every time!

Is there any way for friends to play online on the same team? If we join on each other, teams are random.

Do we have to unlock ranked?

Salmon run is pretty fun, sitting on 155% right now xD

Best game I've had so far, trying to get to 60 eggs only been to 55

Man, all of you guys complaining about the splattershot jr and me dominating with them 7 out of my 10 matches has me feeling preeetty good.

I think it could use a bit more variety in scenarios but the core is so incredibly strong because it's all about balancing risks in every moment, between defending golden eggs, holding off hordes, painting the ground, pushing bosses to break them (and it's seldom one boss on higher difficulties meaning hitboxes are everywhere and the timer forces aggression), getting the eggs back which means fewer dudes killing off the horde (and it's a pretty legit horde) and so on. It's a short mode but intense mode which works in its favor to just get the player in the action as fast as possible and skips most of the ramp up that more longer horde modes have in setting up defenses and progression (not that the way Gear 3 or Killing Floor handles it is bad at all, far from it). And pretty much the only new player mechanic in the mode is the limited Specials. It uses the core mechanics more for the most part quite elegantly meaning skills here translate to competitive play.

Plus the gritty aesthetic makes a great contrast, the music is great, the enemy design is great, stage design is great as well. It's a pretty strong execution of a well-conceptualized mode. Just needs more to it in terms of variety.

I love that they built completely new assets for the mode. Really allows it to shine with its own personality.

Well said.

Can you play Salmon Run online with randos? I'm only seeing the option to play it via local multiplayer...

Choose Freelance at Grizzco's place.

How can I rank up my player? Do I need to play online?

Competing in turf wars helps you level up. Once you've reached lv10, you are qualified to enter ranked matches. The original game ranks you from D to S+, with S ranks being even higher class than A+. Not sure how far up in rank Splatoon 2 goes. Maybe they'll have S ranks from day1, rather than being patched in after most people max out A+

Feeling real dumb, but how do you play Salmon Run? Is it local play only? Can I not play online with strangers?

And are there different multiplayer modes in team battle other than turf wars?

Quoting myself hopefully to get an answer

Great game so far, since I can only play single player.

Don't have internet at my house so I use a mobile hotspot which is only an issue with Nintendo games. Everything else plays just fine.

Has anyone been able to get these games to play online with a hotspot? I have cricket which is an att subsidiary so not sure if that matters. I can go online and buy/download games, can see everyone's squid kids and fresh artwork just can't get into a game because "Nat traversal fails"

:/

There's a sketchy little place next to the matchmaking lobby. That's where Salmon Run is hosted. Not the Shoal.

You too. You're in the wrong building. Also, Ranked mode opens up at Lv. 10, and has other modes.

I hope that the weapons for Salmon Run change as well. I've seen amazing Charger players in the original that were at the top of ranked mode. However, the weapon isn't for everyone and often times the player with the rifle is the weakest link.

You are on the local multiplayer building. Therr is an alley left of the lobby. Go there.

Also ranked mode unlocks at level 10 for everyone. 3 new game modes

The most horrifying bosses are those which did not appear in training...

I've found that no team really knows how to deal with the Griller right now.

I've fought a Griller wave a few times and another wave containing a "Glowfish" I think it was called, where the Salmonids just blitz you at breakneck speed like a bunch of Zerglings in Starcraft.

Now THIS is a game I can see cannibalizing my rocket league addiction. Its that super short game time that selling this, its really fun, I could see myself losing hours to splatoon 2

Love running on the flanks, but I'm terrible about confirming kills. Also got hit by what I have to imagine was a claymore in the back, mega-bummer on that

I hate being the charger in Salmon Run. I can never seem to hit anything.

Yes, I was referring to Grillers. My team barely made through one wave as I used Splashdown (because of luck) to kill two in a row near the end. Exhilarating experience.

Glowfish only appears at night, according to my experience. It is not tough to beat, but its speed could be deadly.

Two questions:

-Is there any way to play a "normal" match with one Switch in a local set up with another friend?
-Is there a way to play a "normal" match against CPUs or can I only play this online?

No and no, no split screen and no CPUs for anything other than singleplayer

Ok I'm going to throw the switch against the wall.

I'm doing Octozepplin Invasion in the campaign and I'm right at the end of the level and it's frustrating as fuck.

Anyone done the level know what I'm talking about? You need good timing to reach the end and I just can't do it.

Fucking hate the charger, and fucking hate this level. It's making me wish I had bought physical just so I can trade this damn game in lol

Yo, what's the deal with the flag on the matchmaking screen? It has a number and an arrow and says dry?

That's a win streak for the weapon.

If you keep winning matches using a particular weapon you'll eventually unlock big xp bonuses, and it'll change from dry to raw to fresh etc
