Kind of makes you wonder how well Wonderful 101 would have done had they actually told people that the game exists.
Splatoon and Wonderful 101 are to me very similar as the type of colorful, stylish new IP I want.
With that said while I agree advertisement would have helped it as it's a colorful superhero game the gameplay was too niche to ever really get in the public consciousness. It also only had a local co-op mission mode.
Nintendo probably didn't feel they would get a return in sales based on the amount of advertising. They probably felt resources were better spent elsewhere.
Especially as it was developed by an outside company and not something they were really keen on turning into a huge franchise.
It also dropped in price more than any other Wii U first-party title as it went sub-20 for quite a while.
Nintendo have offered it as a Club Nintendo reward often though and I've seen it high on the download charts when it happens. It also has over 10,000 ratings. Glad more people got to play the game.
Still think if Amiibo were around then! We would of definitely had Wonder Red, Blue, Green and Pink.
