Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

Kind of makes you wonder how well Wonderful 101 would have done had they actually told people that the game exists.

Splatoon and Wonderful 101 are to me very similar as the type of colorful, stylish new IP I want.

With that said while I agree advertisement would have helped it as it's a colorful superhero game the gameplay was too niche to ever really get in the public consciousness. It also only had a local co-op mission mode.

Nintendo probably didn't feel they would get a return in sales based on the amount of advertising. They probably felt resources were better spent elsewhere.

Especially as it was developed by an outside company and not something they were really keen on turning into a huge franchise.

It also dropped in price more than any other Wii U first-party title as it went sub-20 for quite a while.

Nintendo have offered it as a Club Nintendo reward often though and I've seen it high on the download charts when it happens. It also has over 10,000 ratings. Glad more people got to play the game.

Still think if Amiibo were around then! We would of definitely had Wonder Red, Blue, Green and Pink.

Beat Hero Mode. It was so fun. Took me about 3.5 hours. Some of the Sunken Scrolls are hidden well. I wanted to get the gear you unlock since they have more stars. The final boss is amazing.

You can't buy clothes again and all clothes are fixed in terms of what main ability and the amount of stars they have.

How awesome is the final boss?!
Seriously, the best IN YEARS for me.

People make fun of NoA, but W101 was a niche game. Marketing wouldn't have helped.

Splatoon gets the push because it's their unique entry into the popular multiplayer shooter genre.

Ahhhh, I want to play so badly! I'm unable to pick this up until tomorrow - but the upshot is that I will be unemployed after today so I'll have nothing but time to burn.

Can't wait :D

Wow what do the stars mean for gear? I see some have 2 or 1 stars? Also how do you get your gear to have 4 abilities? I'm at level 9 with only 2 on each

Solid OP, but anyone else finding the images and text slightly fuzzy or blurry? Do you have higher quality images to replace them with at all? Looking forward to seeing how this game progresses, in both content and reception.

It definitely is one of the best final bosses, not sure about in years for me though.

The stars mean how many sub-ability slots you get. You can only get 3 slots for sub-abilities.

Managed to knock out 4 Stages in single player before realizing that you can only level up doing online matches...so I got one of those out of the way and now have to put the game away for 9 hours while I go work...boo

I said it before and I'll say it again. Wonderful 101 is a game about super heroes that was released at the point where super hero popularity has literally NEVER BEEN HIGHER IN THIS COUNTRY. Of course marketing would have helped. Taking a pass on doing your job as a publisher because your game is "Niche" is the same mentality that kneecapped Cartoon Network for years, which judged shows based purely on external merchandising. "We can't use this show to sell t-shirts to 10 year old boys, cancel it. Girls like it? Not our demographic, cancel it."

Nintendo put more effort into pushing Sonic Boom than they did pushing the Wonderful 101. Think about that for a minute.

The best buy near me didnt have it. But they had the bundle in stock. WTF. Anyone ordered it from Amazon Same day delivery in DC.

But my apartment building wouldnt release it today, so I have to pick it up tomorrow.

Any game with good marketting can make it, it's only matter how much money you put into it.

Does anyone know yet how to reroll the gear abilities as mentioned in the OT? I've seen a few JP players running around online now with gear that has double attack buffs, double defence buffs and such and it's honestly a real pain to take them down head on. Sadly all my gear has ended up getting mostly useless skills.

Bought the amiibo this morning, not sure why (they looked pretty!)

Now I feel like I halfway bought the game anyway, so I should pick it up. Should I get it, or wait for the free DLC to launch?

I have a ton of backlog I need to get through and I've never been toooooooooooo huge on online multiplayer games.

I think apart from W101's marketing, one major factor why it ended badly in sales is because of its timing of release. It was released at a time where Wii U is getting some bad press or just being ignored altogether. Not that it will not bomb, but I think it would have done much better if it was released last year after Mario Kart 8 or after E3, where Wii U and its games are getting some interest. You can say the same thing to Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.

Get it. It's addicting and fun. As a former long time call of duty player I enjoy splatoon a whole lot more

I've never played online shooters. Only games I ever played online were MMOs, LOL (for about 2 years) and some smash/SFIV. I usually prefer single player.

Yo this game

this gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i'm gonna have to sleep but tomorrow is pretty much splatoooooooooooon

im back unbanned just in time for Splatoon launch lol

Target had a lot of Splatoon Amiibos so looks like Nintendo sent out a lot

Got the three pack. Kind of regretting it since I spent $100 on splatoon in one day. Hmm.
Same here. 97€... Digital last night and the special edition plus the two other Amiibos in store today.

If I spend as much time with this game as I did with MK8 last year that's okay for me though :)
