Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

I keep telling you: you CANNOT use ANYTHING OTHER than a Wii CC (Pro) and a Wii U Pro Controller. NOTHING else. You cannot use a Wii Remote by itself for anything in Splatoon. Also not with a Nunchuk. The Wii Remote is NOT supported.

disclaimer: I'm not angry, I'm just trying to be ultra clear lol

I believe you, I just think that image is very misleading. why bother adding a wiimote image to begin with? just show pictures of the controllers I can use, you know? It looks to me like I can somehow use a wiimote in combination with a pro controller / wii cc etc..

it's because that's how those controller work. they don't plug into the console, they plug into a Wiimote.

the image would be misleading without the Wiimote

Thread title needs to include something about no splitscreen and only gamepad controls.

that's what the OP is for ;p

The Wii Classic Controller/Wii Classic Controller Pro are Wii Remote accesories that's why, the way to really find out is to look at the back of the box. I think it also says what you can use on eShop.

Who wants to bet that image isn't actually based on anything and the whole thing is just on a timer? :P

Me. Just like almost everything that is updated periodically with an image of some kind and no actual numbers it's faked and based on a time. It'll "unlock" when Nintendo are good and ready to "unlock" it for us. It might not be finished and unlocked in a patch.

That's how the Wii CC works, it must be plugged into a Wii Remote to do anything. They show the Wii remote in the graphic to clearly differentiate the Wii CC from the Wii U Pro Controller.

Edit: this is the problem with icon based UIs, no matter what you do someone will interpret them wrong, icons just aren't universal enough. The manual for Splatoon is pretty clear with text descriptions of what controllers can be used but I'd guess only 5 to 10% of gamers read the manual nowadays.

damn.. I guess it's been awhile since I used it that way. I don't remember that setup at all!!
:'(

Wow, this is pretty goddamn great. so catchy too. (not what I'd expect of a
boss......
though, more of an opening/outro of something? splatoon anime when?)
misleading video title tho

Also can someone who is playing the Single Player compile all the levels you fight Octolings? (As in, the focus of the level is fighting them) Apparently some of those will be available for MP later. (Kelp Dome is a given, for example)

Managed to gets some good playtime on this today! Thoughts ahead!

Singleplayer
- The controls were super easy for me to adjust to, love the small adjustments I can make with the gyro controls.

- Singleplayer variety is fantastic, but I'm already past the halfway point and don't want it to end this soon.

- The amiibo challenges are fine, and extend the singleplayer, but the Squid amiibo challenges are really easy.
Here's a timer, but you're invincible whilst in your fastest form

- The music is outstanding

Multiplayer
- Played a bunch of online and got a good streak going (Smokin' +5) using Roller with Ninja to ambush chokepoints or highly contested areas. (Basically a ninja with a shotgun)

- Matches are quick and fun, even when things are a little uneven. The team shuffling is actually great.

- Had a match where our team got absolutley smashed, and only at the end realised that the other 3 members of my team had disconnected and had 0 Points. =|

- Some annoyances that I've seen too many times already:
People kinda spawn camping (theres a protective bubble, but they can just hide and wait you out)
The One Minute Remaining Idiot Switch where everyone seems to want to just switch bases instead of defending their current score whilst making a final push if possible.

- If I'm rollin', don't follow me shooting the floor as that isn't helping anyone, and for Pete's sake get in cover or provide some for others.

Overall I'm having fun with it, and am looking forward to getting my ass kicked by/with you guys soon. =D

EDIT: THE SPALOONK~ SOUND OF JUMPING INTO INK FROM HIGH UP. Every chance I get.

I was only going to buy it in August (want physical even if w/o but Brazil) since I'm going to be spending a year at the States but the Splatoon Withdrawal is Real. Might pull the trigger online.

Goddamn this game is great! Got to level 6, debating whether to keep going later until I hit 10 or just jump into Octo Valley.

I have to figure out how to approach the mall map - every time I've played on it my team was decimated. But generally speaking I love every map released so far. They all feel unique in how players need to approach them and the kinds of situations their layouts engineer. And I have a feeling they're only going to get more fun to play on as players get accustomed to them and develop strategies.

Oh, and I did manage to grab an Inkling Girl amiibo. Honestly, I was surprised - aside from the 3-packs which were impossible to find anywhere every place seemed to have a good supply of both Inkling amiibos. So I wonder whether those two are going to be more available going forward, or if this is just a day-one thing and they'll be impossible to find a week from now. In any case, it looks pretty nice!

After spending the day playing the Single Player mode, I am finally getting them 1,000+ scores with the Aerospray MG (with the Unused Seekers and the Inzooka which I enjoy). It just suits me so well since it gives me some distance and fires fast.

What is everyone else's favourite so far?

doesn't matter. no where NEAR as good as wiimote aiming.
You can't accurately aim with the pointer in 3rd person, because the game can't have any clue where you're actually aiming in 3D. It just doesn't work properly, see Epic Mickey or Yoshi in Super Mario Galaxy 2.
