Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

I'm loving the game itself, but the controls are holding it back. The gyro isn't sensitive enough to use exclusively (unless you want to stand up and spin in circles), so you have to play it as if it were a dual analog game and just use the gyro for small adjustments.

Except you can't use the analog for vertical aim, so you have to break from the dual analog mindset and switch to exclusively using motion every time there's an altitude difference. You also have to make big, sweeping movements on the Y axis but not the X. Breaking the continuity of the controls like that is awkward and unintuitive.

Fuck gyro aiming. Come back to me, baby.

Exactly how I feel. The fact that the sensitivity (?) is different fro the x and y on both stick and gyro with no option to do sensitivity for each axis, only as a whole, makes the controls feel bad. I put sensitivity up at +5 and it feels great up and down but is still not enough left/right so you have to sue the stick which now goes way too much. It's impossible for me to find a nice medium and using the stick only feels bad due to the up/down being much more sensitive than the left/right.

hmmmmmm

Yup, that's Wii Classic Controller (Pro) and Wii U Pro Controller. Wii Remote + Nunchuk is NOT supported.

Soooo I was under the impression you couldn't use the wiimote at all in this game.

And you can't.

Tesco let me down guys. There was no package waiting for me when I got home. I'm super upset.

If it doesn't come tomorrow I might as well just end my life.

I caved.

Employee told me to "Get inked with new Splatoon Amiibos!"

If she wasn't a personal friend of mine from high school, I would have laughed at her hysterically. Instead, we laughed together hysterically.

GameStop makes them say the cringiest stuff man.

why is it in the picture then? you obviously can use that setup, at least in the dojo.

Because it has to be to make it clear that this is a Classic Controller they're picturing there. And that it has to be connected to a Wiimote. Like on the back of the game boxes.

The game ONLY supports Wii CC (Pro) and Wii U Pro Controller. And only in Battle Dojo for player 2. Nothing else. The rest is GamePad or bust.

The Wii U console that comes with the Splatoon bundle already has the latest firmware installed on it. That sure was convenient. All I had to do was download Splatoon from the eShop.

Incredibly, they had one Amiibo 3-pack on the shelf at our local Best Buy. Even more incredibly, I can't believe I spent $35 on three little pieces of plastic. I must be insane. They do look very nice. Paint job is perfect.

So how does equipment upgrading work? Just level it up and it gains new abilities?

When you buy gear, it has abilities already known and question marks. As you level it up, this question marks become abilities. Once all the ability slots are revealed, no more leveling for that piece of gear.

NotLiquid....this is a beautiful OP. Extremely well done. Love this. Subbed.

Looking forward to splatting it up with you fine folks sometime next week. I've got a busy weekend coming.

Til then, hope everyone enjoys the game!

it's not in the picture, you have to connect the classic controllers to a Wiimote

there's no Wiimote/Nunchuck pictured

right, which is pictured, and what i was talking about. Meaning I can use a wiimote in the dojo, right? screw the nunchuck if I can at least use a wiimote I am happy(ish).

anyone try this config yet?

Yo I went to this town's gamestop to get Splatoon because I couldn't wait til I got back and they had one boy and one girl amiibo left just right there on the shelf! So they're still out there if you're lucky

Game has a MAJOR problem right now, which is rage-quitters. I've had a few matches where we lose with only 35%. Yeah, your team sucked and/or had inferior equipment, whatever. It's very a short match, and then you can get back in. Yet there have already, in under 20mins, been 3 matches where my team was doing very well and then "A connection error has occurred." Yeah, you mean someone fucking rage quit. And then we get nothing for it. Cool.

Not sure why you assume that's a rage quit as opposed to a genuine connection error. The game usually continues without problem when a player drops. I had a game where I was the only person left on my team at the end.

I don't think you understand....

look at it this way, those pictures indicate you can use a classic controller, a classic controller pro, and a pro controller. that's it.

I keep telling you: you CANNOT use ANYTHING OTHER than a Wii CC (Pro) and a Wii U Pro Controller. NOTHING else. You cannot use a Wii Remote by itself for anything in Splatoon. Also not with a Nunchuk. The Wii Remote is NOT supported.

disclaimer: I'm not angry, I'm just trying to be ultra clear lol

I'm addicted to this game in a way I haven't been for a while. And I haven't even tried the single player yet. I love how most matches can turn at any point - I often find myself ending up winning when I thought I was losing and vice versa. It has that 'just one more round'-feel that I don't get with Smash Brothers or Mario Kart. Maybe because it feels fresh, I don't know, but I'm really enjoying it. It feels like a shooter, but it also feels completely new, like Left 4 Dead did back in the day. Which I never thought I'd say about a Nintendo game.

A little confused. What makes you think the connection error is a rage quitter? I was getting a bunch of those last night, but I think it was due to my internet connection sucking and not due to rage quitters. It was definitely happening way too early in the match to be rage quitters...

Yup. I can't believe I'm struggling with the controls this much. Shocking, actually. Neither option feels good.

Nintendo UK store has a competition to win the Wii U premium bundle. No inkling hat or amiibos so I'm not bothering. But what I liked was the question
For a chance to win, enter by answering the following question. Who is the enemy army in Splatoon our hero Inklings need to defeat?
-Octarians
-Tentacruels
-Cephalopodlingtons
That got me thinking. While people joke about the game being a branch of the Mairo timeline (Mario fails in Super Mario Sunshine which Gamespot spent way too many words explaining) it could well be Pokemon canon in a distant future. Why? The scrolls talking of (single player scrolls spoiler)
rising water levels leading to land life being wiped out reek of the work of Kyogre so really it is the Team Aqua "wins" branch of the Pokemon timeline. Add in that many Pokemon take on human charactistics as they evolve and it isn't too absurd.
At least I'm taking something that was in the game and running with it rather than being Inklings looks like Bloopers and the paint looks the goo in SMS. OMG connection.

I'm not sure that is what causes communication errors.

I have witnessed the following:
-A team mate dying at the "get ready" part after the stage has loaded but before the match has began and never respwaned. They had a score of 0 at the end, 0 kills and deaths. (seen this only once I'll admit)
-Members of my team or the opposing team also ending with a score of 0 but having kills/deaths. (seen this plenty, even in the testfire)

That suggests a player that disconnects ends the match with a score of 0 but the game goes on as usual.

So what causes communication errors then? I propose the following: Since it is alleged peer to peer and one peer is classed as the room creator if they were the one to quit that will destroy the room resulting in errors for all?

Probably actual disconnections. You can't open the menu or home menu and quit from there only turn the Wii U off and if someone does disconnect then it goes on as nomarl (unless the host goes).

Is this game on sale anywhere for $40~ ish?

I am still really salty that Nintendo of America is charging $20 more than any other region is for the game, but I want to play it :(

Seems there's significantly more higher level players online today compared to yesterday, which is making things a lot less fun. My teams are dominated in almost every match by guys with equipment with 3+ boosts on them... Also Saltspray Rig is not a fun map at all, super lockdown'y.

I've been running into an issue where my gyro keeps moving left even when the controller is laying down. Recalibrating the gyro does not fix this... I fear it might be broken. ):
It doesn't always do it. When I restart the console it seems fine, but then it starts after a few minutes. My Wii U is under warranty so that's good, but it's just really annoying.

I tried a game with dual analog only and hahahaha... never again. Nope. The gyro is the saving grace, I've already gotten way too used to it even when my Gamepad goes off center after a while.

Also the Calamari girls introducing the stages each time you start the game gets a bit tedious (considering I was troubleshooting my error and restarting a couple times).

Does it ever show which of your friends are online in the game?

Every time I hit play with friends, I just get my entire friends list to sift through, with no indication who's online.
