Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

If Nintendo is smart, they'll add in a feature in future games that lets you play virtual console games while waiting for matches to start.

I reached level 10. Anyway, anyone else finding the latency in this game awful? Far too many mutual kills, even when it's clear on my screen that I killed the other player first and then ink comes out of no where and gets more, before the camera highlights where the dead player who killed me died. My internet isn't shit btw.

This one time I killed a dude, went around a corner and died anyway. It's really annoying.

Is there any kind of team balance at all? It seems like it's all random so players with a load of strong accessories/weapons and all end up on one team while the other team suffers. I still would have preferred if the items weren't progression based and were more balanced.

I was enjoying this game a lot yesterday, but I had to take a break now because it was annoying me lol.

For Splat Zones, you have a 5 min total time to play (with overtime also being a thing that could happen if the conditions are met).

Every second reduces the 100 point thing by 2 points. So it would take 50 seconds to get to 0 points without any penalties.
Missed it :( Game kicked me due non-activity.
Aww. :(

Still cool to hear. So you were able to look at the gamepad screen?

Super Jump has quickly become my most hated mechanic in this game.

Great in theory! In practice? All three of your teammates super jumping to you just as you die, then giving the enemy a quadruple kill. Or teammates just forgetting how to walk and super jumping to you a half second after you left spawn...

Whole base could be covered in enemy ink, but they want the free ride so "Weeeeee!" to the opposite side of the map instead. Defense!
Yeah, I hardly use it for this reason (only if another player is in a hard to reach/safe zone away from combat). Rather swim back while inking up any spots we missed along the way.

I'm leveling shoes with invincible jumping now tho, which makes you way less of a sitting duck. Heck, I got one player by surprise as I landded right behind him and shot him before he could react.

Been playing since Friday and really loving it. I feel like I'm missing out on not using the motion controls, but it's taking some time for me to get used to by moving the gamepad and also the camera with right stick.

Add another vote for wishing I could change load outs in between matches :/

Looking forward to spending the morning and afternoon playing :)

Yeah. That's how I managed I suicide. After the suicide blank screen was gone and I got stuck on the game start screen instead. Before this bug I got a "communication unstable" message or something like that which is something I have never gotten before.

That just means your teammates are using the mechanic poorly—it doesn't mean the mechanic is bad.

Not having as much fun this eve. Constantly put against dominating teams full of high levels with top star gear. I don't get it, what happened over night?

Also spent an hour playing, won 1 match of around 7-8 and all of them have been on walleye warehouse...

This game reminds me of Team Fortress 2 with its stylish visuals and fast, fluid gameplay.

I played 700 hours of Spy in TF2, so I feel right at home defending hot spots with lots of sneaky attacks and evasive tactics in Splatoon.

Just unlocked the .52 gal deco. I'm not a big fan of the plain version, but I feel like the control with this one is tighter. Those seeker bombs are great too. Even if there aren't any other players around to set them on, they're great for getting coverage on straightaways

Maybe I should start tallying up communication errors and disconnects at this stage because it almost seems like I'm experiencing 1 in every 5-8 games, regardless of the time of day I play. I'm especially bummed out every time my match is going well and I suddenly get kicked out back to the lobby.

Maybe there is something wrong with my router or Wii U after all? How's everybody else's connection holding up? I'm in the UK by the way, if that matters.

So that is the name of the weapon most people I fight use..

How did you unlock it?

Super jump is great. It's incredibly risky but a huge aid to your strategy if you use it well. And generally speaking, you've got to be ready to move as soon as you land, because enemies can see you jumping a mile off.

Jesus, this game is just too addictive, the heroin of gaming I'm sure. How can a two map rotation not get boring? It's magic I'm sure.

I think it's because the mechanics are so fresh and new. The simple act of spraying ink and swimming feels great in itself. And the allocation of good guy/bad guy ink changes how the level plays in infinitely different ways. The design of the game is just brilliant.

When we start getting more maps it's going to be nuts.

It's a shame that it's impossible to plan for or communicate this. If everyone on your team has builds meant for killing you're screwed since you can't change weapons. And if nobody realizes they need to change strategy, there's no way to tell them.

It sounds like you haven't played it, because as mentioned, every single weapon and almost every perk is designed for both painting and killing, and balanced appropriately. Communicating team strategy isn't so relevant because the game moves at a lightning pace, and everything you need to know is displayed on the Gamepad. A team which plays well is going to defeat a team which plays poorly, every time, but there are countless opportunities for a lone player to put a huge dent in a rival team's effectiveness if they play their hand right, even if his or her team is screwing up royally. One player can turn an entire match around and I've seen it many times.

So my kids have a new game for one v one... Hide and seek.... They do not touch the balloons and one hides in the ink while the other hunts... Then later, they split the arena and painted EVERYTHING...

That's fun. Good on them for being creative. That minecraft generation. lol

I think it's nice that you have four hours to increase your vibe to the best you can. :P

Let me know if anyone is in a room.

I don't know. I feel like there should be some immunity when you land or something. Or it should jump you to where your partner IS and not where they WERE when you hit jump on the gamepad. There is no way to tell when your teammates are getting shot up since no one can tell you, and often times the jump takes so long that by the time you land either your team mate saw the threat and are running away, or are already dead and you're a sitting duck.

There have been multiple times I've died because I jumped to a partner who saw that someone was setting up a Killer Wail, and they had run away and got out of the line of fire, but it jumped me right into a death. I don't know how that's me using the mechanic badly when there is no indication that my partner was in any danger in the first place.

How does anyone play this game at all without the motion controls on? I just can't imagine being able to paint around yourself fast enough to keep up with anyone else just using the dual analog. This was a game designed to take advantage of what motion controls offer in a shooter, and it just feels fantastic. Maybe it's just my Nintendo Land training, but I never feel like I'm struggling with the controls, rather I feel like the gyro is freeing me up to paint in all directions as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Love the Aerospray RG, btw. Haven't had a sub-1,000 point match since I unlocked it.
