Splinter Cell: Blacklist |OT| Warning: May Contain Trace Amounts Of Stealth

Anyone have the uplay launcher f***ing break on them again?

I've tried uninstalling and deleting everything and then reinstalling but it still tells me "ubisoftgamelauncher.exe/uplay launcher has stopped working" any time I try launching a Ubisoft game or the launcher itself.

All the support from ubi says "uninstall and re-install" as the solution.

It's a shame, yeah. But if I remember correctly Ironside said he didn't really want to voice the character anymore.

Not to say I didn't enjoy the game, but there are a few parts a felt where left unexplained.

Like how Sadiq found out about Fourth Echelon's existence.

Also who are those Splinter Cell looking guys with the Thermal Goggles that show up near the end of the Abandoned Mill level? I know they work for the Engineers, but they don't seem to have been given a background.

Did you not pay attention?

Thermal goggle guys are Qods force.

So I gave up on my assault perfectionist run in the American Consumption level. Just too hard man.

So I tried it again just doing panther stuff in my full on stealth suit. Damn. I feel like I beat that level in under 15 minutes or something. I was just moving from one area to the next knifing bros.

Lotta fun. Those knife kills, especially hanging ones, are brutal.

Thanks for ruining that level I haven't done yet, Junior. :(

So.... apparently this game has a memory leak, or it does at least on Charlie's Russian Embassy level. Me and a co-op buddy were close to finishing wave 20 when it crashed, with the error prompt "Out of memory" for me. He got the same crash and prompt moments later. :(

All of that is explained, they just don't put it in your face.

I'd spoiler tag some of that btw

Not a fan of some of the more actiony parts of the game. The escort parts in particular make it a pain to try and stealth past.

Just got this for Wii U. I know the superior version is on PC (and yeah, I have a high end PC). But I'm going to get this + Rayman + Wonderful 101 on the Wii U, just because I've been wanting to actually use that thing.

Going to start it now, hope I like it.

If you got a high enough Ghost ranking for Mastery, just shoot gas bolts at them to put them to sleep as you run down the areas. Worked for me.

Not sure if this has been asked, but the game is REALLY dark on my TV. I'm on the Wii U version. When I go to the menu to adjust the brightness, it doesn't seem to work (I can't even see the text when brightness is on Max, that's how dark it is).

I've never had an issue with this on any other game with the Wii U (or 360/PS3). So I don't think it's my TV. WTF

Do you not know how to spoiler tag or do you just not care?

I need to hurry up and finish this game...

in fact - how do you put someone on ignore from the mobile site?

Do the levels change according to difficulty? I've only dabbled in perfectionist but was doing a Fish Market non-lethal run and was going to hide some bodies in an open booth in the market only to find that it was gated shut, along with all the others.

Was I hallucinating? Or are there subtle level differences across difficulties? I gotta admit I usually play normal.

Hmm. I never noticed, although I do play on Realistic. Are you talking about the iron gate in the 2nd area of the map? Near the boat? It's open on the realistic setting.

First area of the map, as soon as you get in-doors, at errr... the indoor market ;P Its lined with stalls along the wall, and when I last played all the stalls were shuttered. But I'm certain I hid bodies in an unshuttered stall on a previous run. I'm not 100% the open stall wasn't there, but I couldn't find it in my short time before getting killed and aborting the mission, and the game for the night.

But I thought others might know better or might have seen similar things.

Yup. This thread has been pretty poor for spoilers. Even before release, people were throwing around level titles like no ones business.

The past day or two, I've now had an end game location and a bunch of plot points spoilt, by different posters, and strangely, not a whole lot of caring. I appreciate it's hardly The Last of Us, when it comes to story, but let's have some bloody consideration.

They say that ironside didn't return because Ubi wanted someone who could mo cap Fisher and voice him at the same time. Doesn't really makes sense cause it's not like Uncharted and you could get by using two different actors for mo cap and voice.

I don't understand why there is not one wiiU specific review of this game.

Is this some new tactic of Nintendo - banning sites to review their games.

Or

Is this some sort of pressure put on by MS or Sony to stop sites saying that a Nintendo console has a better performing version of multi platform game????

It seems like the hardest way to play the game imho, and may shine in co-op. But in general if its possible for enemies to shoot you in the back they will, so movement is key, as well as taking power-positions, at least for a period of time, before using your last-known-position as distraction to cover your movements to another firing position, or to toss that perfect frag that takes a whole squad of guys out in one blast.

You also have to watch out for frags, and god damn if drones and dogs aren't worst, and the two of them together almost always overwhelms me very quickly.

So yeah, I like it for the additional challenge and the frenetic tension, and the completely different spin it puts on maps after you've gotten used to them in their Ghost and Panther aspects. When I'm going for assault I look for quick ways to cross vertical distances, areas I can sprint to get the drop on people who may be attacking my previous position, and the rope-slide-things with the name that escapes me for the moment.

Doesn't really makes sense cause it's not like Uncharted and you could get by using two different actors for mo cap and voice.
You can, but you hamstring the voice actor into following the cadence and physicality of the mocap actor when doing the lines or likewise. Keeping the two as the same person keeps the voice work grounded and in synch with the physical motions. Makes sense in theory, but falls apart when you consider the player is the one moving Sam around most of the time, so there is no synch with the voices. I'm sure it helps put everybody on the same page in the cinematics though.

Halo 4 did it that way with Cortana and that game had pretty animations on that front.

But from what I know, Ironside, didn't really want to do another Splinter Cell game. He was already out for Conviction during the Hobo Sam days until they rewrote the script that pleased him. I doubt Ubisoft will go around saying that Ironside doesn't like SC anymore so they decided to go with another actor.

does it really matter? do the gimmicky gamepad controls warrant an entirely separate review? why is everything a conspiracy to people. we've got systembug up there saying the game is about killing brown people, you're saying companies are telling reviewers how to do their job, what next! HUH?!

Are there any PS3 players that have a bitch of a time finding a Classic Spies vs Mercs match online (the 2v2 mode)? Sometimes when I pair up with a buddy we are waiting a helluva long time before we are paired up. I know the online community probably isn't as big as on 360, but it should be better than this.

Oh, and also, it's insane that they don't count someone quitting out as a win for you. I can't even count the amount of time and experience lost because someone backed out of the match before they were about to lose.

it takes seconds for me to find a full lobby for SvM classic on the PS3. what region are you living in?

I love going full assault in this game. Wii U version represent I find the gamepad help with the gadget selection and I use the gadgets and different weapon more frequently. I love the Charlie co-op missions too. I would like for ubi soft to patch the wii u version so the matchmaking system would work faster.

Got lucky tonight and played a string of working matches tonight on Wii U.

One of them, my partner failed to load Into the match but i still pulled out a victory against two players. I had some incredible grenade throws that saved me as a merc. There was little I could do as a spy against two players guarding the last terminal though. The highs of svm are higher than most multiplayer games can hope to achieve.

Can someone tell me what you get for completing all the side missions?
I've did all the 4E missions but never found anything that you get for doing all of the missions and I had heard that you get something special for completing them

trophies/achievements, suit unlocks, money. that's pretty much it.

I know but in this game most of the time Sam's doing action he barely speaks, like during mark and execute, climbing etc etc. When he does speaks he does so in a normal voice and even the cutscenes don't really justify this.

Maybe the PR folks who send out the review copies don't bother sending out 4 copies when only one version is going to be written about anyway.

Assault is hard as fuck. Definitely the hardest playstyle in the game if you want to pull it off right. Probably doesn't help that I play on perfectionist just like my ghost and panther(the easiest) runs.

Guess we know which one now heh.

Doing my perfectionist run now. Its funny, even though its harder difficulty I'm having a much easier time beating the levels ghosting by everyone because I know all the spots. Plus I can shoot whoever I want bc I'm not worried about Mastery points anymore. Goes by much faster. But still fun.

EDIT: Oh, he's gone.

This is a great game. Might top Chaos Theory for me. I really like the way they incorporate some of the Conviction mechanics into the classic Splinter Cell mix. Some really nice level design too. Miss Ironside though!

Getting very far in the campaign now. I'm actually shocked by how good this game is. I think there's a few things holding it back from greatness, but this is definitely a very pleasant surprise. The cynic inside me thought a lot of Ubisoft's claims were just damage control, after the poor E3 showing. But nope, this is a very big improvement over the past few entries. It's no Chaos Theory in my books, but it does it proud.

For the record: Where you using DX9 or DX11?

You can, but you hamstring the voice actor into following the cadence and physicality of the mocap actor when doing the lines or likewise.
Like the international (dubbing) voice actors do all the time.
(and the scriptwriters)

do the gimmicky gamepad controls warrant an entirely separate review?
No, but they deserve to be mentioned. Depending on the implementation it could improve or hurt the game, but I guess most of the time it won't really matter.
The Gameboy connection on the Gamecube versions was fun.

And even if the WiiU version didn't have any extra features, it deserves to be compared for performance reasons, and the multiplayer issues some players report deserve to be investigated.
