[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens - It's True. All of it.

I've got a few black friends who weren't really fans of the OT (and lol at the Prequels) who are really digging what they've seen so far and are excited about the film because the guy holding the lightsaber in promos is black. They'll definitely be bummed if that turns out to be a red herring.

Han Solo is the best and most beloved Star Wars character and the dude wasn't force-sensitive. If that's Finn's role (the non-force-sensitive hero) then I'd expect people to be fine with that.

His set-up (the conscientious Stormtrooper defector) doesn't lend itself well to being a secret force user, and is a very strong character set up for a hero as-is.

They can't all be Jedis, and they tend to be more interesting if they're not.

The double bladed lightsaber is amazing, and its disuse in everything but the EU is a crime. It's no less dumb than Kylo Ren's crossguard, considering people actually fought with staves in real life. There needs to be someone who specializes in two sabers as well though, no argument there.

Finn getting two and Rey getting a double blade would be my dream. I'm just sick of one single blade. We've seen that enough, take advantage of all the other shit.

Lightsaber pike. She's already got the moves.

I forgot about that, and it never occurred to me until now that that was the sound effect. God, that's TERRIBLE.

Problem is that chances are high he'll get shoved to the sidelines though like what ended up happening to Han multiple times.

Please don't tell me this is real...

Good god, is anything in this movie original? Or is it all just call backs? Getting so bummed reading this stuff.
I honestly didn't even think of it as a callback to Empire until now. Seems fine to me, as long as they don't really try to make it like that scene.

I hope Kylo says "You aren't my Father" before he kills Han. I don't see what the problem is. I think that shit is awesome.

When did Han get shoved to the sidelines? He played a prominent role in every aspect for the whole trilogy.

Tbh his character was fairly useless in Jedi. I think ESB Han Solo to ROTJ Han Solo is one of the biggest nerfings of a character in history. He barely does anything in the film and is just kind of there because the character is supposed to be there. Totally makes sense that the original script had him dying, but they could have incorporated him a lot better after they reversed that decision.

- Gets freed from Jabba's Palace, is blind for the whole thing
- A few lines of dialogue on Ackbar's ship
- Leads the Endor strike team, but other characters do all the cool stuff
- Gets "I love you"/"I know" reversed by Leia

The only real contribution he makes is to fake being a stormtrooper commander to get the gates open. And that's it. Leia and Lando are the main contributors in that movie aside from Luke. Even Chewie does more on Endor.

Not to mention the whole Bespin thing was him primarily being bait for Luke too. The film climaxes in 5 and 6 revolve almost entirely around Luke.

People love to hate on the "It's like poetry, it rhymes" line, but really there's nothing wrong with callbacks if they're handled well and artfully. When you're trying to work in a long-running saga, having repeated motifs help the whole thing feel cohesive and whole.

Just... Not stuff like this:

I think han dying is more Ford's idea than JJ. He hates star wars I think and he wanted that character dead since empire.

I think so too. JJ had to take what he could get and Ford would not do more than one. Pick up that paycheck, put his name out there for a good while, and see ya. I read somewhere JJ had to specifically tell Ford that he was forbidden from being grumpy Ford on this movie.

Still kind of wish Han died from Greedo's son or grandson hunting him down and getting sweet revenge.

Greedo's son wants to be a bounty hunter like his dad, so Boba Fett comes out of retirement to train him. When Boba catches cancer, the two of them fight together to become stronger. In the final battle, Greedo, with Boba at his side, battles Kylo Ren, who proclaims "You ARRA FALSE GREED".

Ford doesn't hate Star Wars, he just hasn't had an interest in being apart of the larger fandom stuff. He also feels that other characters like Indiana were richer roles than Han, which is kind of true.

I've seen interviews with him in years past, long before he was contractually obligated to hype this movie, wherein he recognized that he largely has the career he does because of Star Wars.

I think it would be neat to have Finn want to be a Jedi, but isn't force sensitive, gives it his all and eventually gets there. Could go a long way towards downplaying midichlorians, like the more you have just makes it easier, but anyone can still do it.

I doubt Ford hates Star Wars as much as the true king anyway.

"Well,” I said, “do you think you could promise never to see Star Wars again?”

Ford has been saying the thing about Star Wars being the kickstarter of his career quite a bit lately. But when he says its it seems to be his patent response to not having actually saying anything postive about Star Wars.

Yep, it sure made my career. Next Question.

That would be fucking amazing. It would feel so much more earned that just being born into it.

Damn good!

I think Kylo Ren is going to be the most controversial part of the movie. I think its interesting that his motivations are left pretty vague, but I assume there will be a lot of "Vader fanboy" talk. And complaints about him not being intimidating because Driver is a tall and lanky guy.

He'll be intimidating, Driver is a terrific actor. He'll bring the fury.

I'm going to have to disagree. He wasn't the guy fighting Vader but he was a prominent part of ESB and Jedi. Heck, the first 3rd of Jedi revolves around Solo.

I never felt like he became some background character

this would be a fresh route for the story to take

I wouldn't describe him as lanky. He has some mass.

Here he is squatting a goat for Dark Side gainz.

As a black dude, I totally understand where they're coming from is partially the reason I don't want it to happen either.

Please don't fuck us Abrams. Have Finn join Rey in her training after he recovers. Think of the awesome two on one lightsaber battle they could have with Kylo!

Yeah I was kinda bummed when it became known that he's probably not FS. I'm now starting to think that his future mentorship is going to come from Leia. Seems like his major moment in this film is going to be him giving up the plans/location of the First Order base.

He'll be the dude on the intercom, the one making plans, rallying troops, etc.

Obviously, this is just guesswork. Haven't even seen *this* film yet.

So what are the chances that Kylo Ren's actual name is Jacen Solo. Like if Han calls him Jacen I would be squeeling. Or do you think all of the elements of the EU have been scrapped.

I aint reading this bobby but

as having read some of the previous rumors a while ago

the thread title itself is kind of a spoiler

aint it

unless you're just referencing han solo without a double meaning

either way, immouttttttttt

I don't even like that idea. I don't want him to become Nick Fury. I'd rather him be Han than that.

It's just the dialogue from the trailer.

I suspected some of it to be true, but ALL of it? Fucking spoiled.

Avatar bet: Han Solo doesn't die, or they don't make it clear that he's actually dead (i.e. we don't see a body). First taker gets this bet. Terms are the loser wears the winner's choice of avatars for a month.

Whatever happened to that Han Solo movie. Seems like a lot of effort to build up to a character who just died.

I assume Rey uses the Force at the end hence 'The Force Awakens'?
