Anime bloggers delve into the how and why a show is good or not.

They care so we don't have to.

Anime bloggers pander to their collective audiences by expressing "opinions" meant to either appeal or incite the reader so they continue to get traffic.

They don't actually care, so we have to.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Oh no, I never said they were right. In fact I agree with duckroll, many of them are just pandering to their audiences the same way KyoAni panders to their audiences.

Anime bloggers arrange screenshots and occasionally add attach a small amount of text, but in a manner that won't distract from the exciting gallery.

You know what elevates Aoi Hana above the typical slice-of-life show? I mean, besides the characters being a perfect mix of cute idealizations and believable human beings, of course. The top-notch visual acting. Aoi Hana successfully relied on the visual acting to sell the characters and situations to audience.
This is an element important of Hanasaku Iroha as well. Which isn't to say that both shows have similar character types, but rather that HI combines certain character types with an agreeable level of exaggeration. They make them entertaining, without making them ridiculous. Walking that line is difficult and it remains to be seen if they'll maintain the balance.

Also, is it me or have OPINIONS discussions in this thread gotten worse lately? I think people kind of used to somewhat justify their OPINIONS in the past; nowadays, we just post what we think and don't bother trying to argument why we think what we think. Maybe we just, like duckroll said, realized that nobody actually reads half of what we post in these threads.
That's just like, your opinion man. That, and that other fellow.

I'm sure the majority of comments get read, unless they're ABF length.

I haft to admit I'm kinda lukewarm on the show, the animation and direction are up to the usual high-standard kyoani set with K-ON, but the characters aren't engaging me yet, at least the characters in K-ON were memorable!

The chase scene in #2 was excellent though.

indeed
nichijous characters seem like palette swaps

school setting, loli characters and annoying high pitched voices
That's got nothing to do with pacing, but hey, no accounting for taste! :p

K-ON!! 7-8
Oh my God, OH MY GOD, did I accidentally stop watching this and then forget about it? Well, considering of when 7 came out and what was going on in life at that time, that doesn't really surprise me...

Anyway, why the fuck can't Yui be a professional musician? Bitch's got perfect pitch for Christ's sake!

Too bad that the Toriko anime is, as expected, quite censored. :(

Was hoping for some bloody KNAIFU action

I think people kind of used to somewhat justify their OPINIONS in the past; nowadays, we just post what we think and don't bother trying to argument why we think what we think. The Madoka discussion that was had last week and the P&S discussion of a few pages ago are the perfect examples of what I'm talking about. Maybe we just, like duckroll said, realized that nobody actually reads half of what we post in these threads.

Those brands of discussions have been fluctuating lately.

There was largely nothing wrong with doomed1's discussion on Madoka as a whole, but it was a little tainted by that he already had a pre-opionion on Madoka before he watched it, and it felt like he was trying too hard to justify his pre-judgment at times.

And then there was the "Anime humour meh, leave it to westerners", where the poster tried to come off as a victim when challenged instead of stating why western humour is superior.

TWGOK - 01

Nice recap, although if all the girls that will be conquered in this season are in the opening, I weep at there being no Yui arc.

Cardcaptor Sakura - 22

Kind father is kind. Even though I think his marriage to Sakura's mum (Nadeshiko?) is still creepy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who frequently confuses character genders in anime. And never when I'm supposed to... >_>

and this is why I think lolicons are closet homosexuals
theres no real gender definition apart from clothing
ill let you off this one because its a face shot

The feeling I get from much of the discourse in this thread is that it's more about chatting about anime rather than in-depth discussion.

Personally, I usually at least try to articulate why I like shows when I talk about them, but I don't do a very good job of it :X

Having perfect pitch doesn't make you a good musician.

I always try to justify my opinions in long-ass posts that no one reads, and for old stuff no one really cares or remembers enough to discuss, mostly so Jexhius won't cut me. But that's where we get into personal blog territory - not that I really mind this being a collective blog for animugaf.
It's also tricky to have a disagreement about something that ends at a natural point e.g. where both parties realise they've arrived at the 'fundamental disagreement' which is the basis of their disagreement. There's a tendency for both parties to pursue the argument by reframing their original complaints in a slightly different way in an attempt to 'win' the argument until it goes around in circles forever. I guess at least you have a debate there!

This was charming. You can't really get in depth commentary with these two minute sketches.

Ok lets reel it in then.

Hen Zemi ep.1

Saw the abnormal psychology thing in the description and thought it might be interesting in some way; especially since I have been pleasently suprised by some shows recently. First of all the show has a strange no-nose/dojinshi style to it that I kinda liked at first but then lost interest in. The show tried to create some randomness to it but the jokes fell flat on me and even seemed gross at times.
The bathtub fart thing especially. I could see why it could be funny but it wasn't
. The shows characters seemed very one dimensional as well. Overall I did not like the show and do not recomend

Doesn't account for laziness or anything like that, but a focused music curriculum would make someone with perfect pitch a good technical musician AS WELL AS an intuitive musician. No joke, with formal training, someone with Yui's ear could very easily be a prolific professional. At the least a session musician.

K-ON!! 9
And episode 9 continues to support this notion.

It's alright I can't really articulate my opinions too well either. <3 I try but I'm not very good at it since I don't do it too often.

Pull up your bootstraps you lazy maggot! You can always start here and progress to here as a warming-up exercise. It's only a bit over a thousand A4 pages.

Then you can report back for a test before you're allowed to post in this thread.

Look at you getting all high and mighty after analyzing alleged hidden lesbian subtext in Dennou Coil. :p

Lesbian subtext is high-level intellectual discussion!

You know, maybe I'm just idealizing the old days in which being away for just a few hours didn't make me lose pages and pages of conversation. :V

Anyway, in much a more important subject, I feel like most otomen in anime are extremely cheap; they're basically what you get by drawing a female and then saying that it is a man. Convincingly androgynous characters in anime are rare.

X Men 02

All I could think of when they said U Men was a bizarro form of the X-Men, made the episode far more enjoyable then it should've been. Love Madhouse creature design, those robots were hella cool.

Show needs less emo Scott though

Decided to catch up on Gundam Unicorn. Isn't it supposed to be a 6 OVA series? I'm confused at how they are planning to wrap it up.

Double bluffs are awesome, forever waiting for the announcement that he's really a girl but it never happens.

I'll probably keep up with Nichijou because of the animation and the music (I'm a sucker for orchestral soundtracks), plus it takes me zero effort to watch it.
This is my feeling on Nichijou. The animation porn, great music, and occasional funny moment are enough for me. For now anyway. I may grow bored of it later down the line.

Also, I now want to go to a huge mountain music festival. Actually, I want to play in one with my current band now. ;___;

Since I haven't seen K-ON, I'm not sure whether Yui is primarily a vocalist or an instrumentalist. As a vocalist, perfect pitch would indeed be helpful in preventing intonation from being a problem, as long as she has a quality voice to begin with (which is not guaranteed). As an instrumentalist, hand-eye coordination and dexerity will be more important. In either case, yes, with a strong work ethic and a good teacher who can instill good technique and good practice habits, I'm sure Yui could become a professional musician. But the same would be true for a competent person without perfect pitch, as beneficial in certain regards as it could be. Depending on how acute Yui's perfect pitch is, it could have its own disadvantages, such as making transpositions difficult. Basically, I think perfect pitch is overrated.

I don't know how "useful" perfect pitch is, but speaking as someone who's 99% positive his brother has it in some form (what would be the best way to test for something like that anyway?) it's still quite fascinating what people can do with it.

Stick a guitar tuner under his nose and tell him to sing a note dry. If he hits the note, you'll see it.

As for the whole discussion thing, thats not my forte making heated long winding discussions about anime.

I want to be entertained first, who makes it, plot, art, this viewing angle is off, etc stuff can come after.
