I'd probably think Madoka was overrated if I was a magical girl fan. Since I'm not, I think it's underrated.

I suppose I have no idea how the Japanese nerd audience took it, but I get the feeling that E8 left a bad taste in everyone's mouth here anyway.

I think the fact that Bandai didn't bother with a BD release kind of shows it as well.

That was what was stupid about Index. Accelerator could have killed Toma in the blink of an eye. If we, however, get past that incongruity, Accelerator is pretty badass and saved S2.

Detective Conan 1

As a long-time fan of mysteries and detectives, I can't resist starting this most famous (and only?) detective anime, even though I know that I'll never be able to finish it because it will never finish.

This first episode doesn't waste any time with the murders, showing the first one in the OP and introducing Kudo immediately with the dramatic summation. Then we get a second murder committed and solved - and that's even before the central premise of the show is set in motion! It's no-nonsense about its classic mystery tropes, but I love them, so I don't mind. I do look forward to more complicated cases in the future.

Hype is hype. The buzz for Madoka around the net was on another level. It was like Haruhi when that came out.

That's not quite a fair comparison, Haruhi didn't have a 1 month delay after its best episode came out which was where the hype was at its most awesome, plus the best character trolling littlie girls was great to watch throughout.
