Japaneese pronunciation or romanisation (or both) always have this problem with l's and r's goddamnit. >_<

Ii's why Anaru hates being called Anaru.

Hiragana Tables seem to always have it as R
ill only accept Holo because the world is western

I think it says Kroilo.

Wow. What the heck is this show? But anyway I saw Navel mentioned in the OP so I'm guessing it's an eroge conversion? Honestly, I think that sometimes with those things they really ought to either just make it all ages (if possible) or go down the full on hentai route, not this half-assed half-and-half crap.
Yes, it's an eroge. And no, it depends on how the adaptation is done. In hindsight, after seeing what they're doing with it, then I'll say they're better off forgetting the pretentiousness and make it a full-blown hentai instead, but then, if it was hentai, they wouldn't get the time slot on that channel in the first place surely, no? Besides, the half-and-half crap isn't bad in general depending on how warped one's expectations or standards of the genre is. It's just done poorly in this case.

We all know it won't last forever as indicated in the preview. The ponytail is here to stay
for one episode.

I still only found about 10% of this episode to be entertaining, by which I mean funny, but never mind. The scenes that worked for me, such as the drawing scene, worked pretty damn well.

The production values are still through the roof, which may be the reason I'm still paying attention to this show. I'd like to single out the music as being one of the shows better features, but nearly every part of the show is made at a high standard.
The best feature. Feels highly reminiscent of the music in those old Looney Tune cartoons except even more fluttery and just as restrained.

I know what I'm buying this season.

Ore-tachi 2, 3, & 4. Welp, easily the worst anime that I've seen so far this season. Zero redeeming qualities. If it were trying to be a fanservice, why censor 90% of it? Why not focus more on fanservice instead of boring shit nobody cares about? There are far better fanservice animes and there are far better boring shit nobody cares about animes. This is the worst of both worlds.
To be fair, a lot of fanservice has been getting strong-armed into censorship or it's intentionally done to spur actual sales in the past few seasons most noticeably (past few years probably). As to the boring shit, it's why I said the series is outright bad because it doesn't know what it wants to be, how the plot twist was revealed in Episode 4, which further exasperates the sense of plot, and the overall directionless doesn't draw attention to the suppose hints they've tried to imply. You listen to the Tiger & Bunny advice but not mine? Could have saved yourself the time :lol

She already has. Y'all too busy ignoring her sexy voice.

But thats the whole point. They're corporate sponsored heros to deal with the fact that superheros cause a lot of collateral damage. In this universe the sponsors foot the bill when the heros break shit so its in the sponsors interest to keep their heros in line. The conflict comes from he main character having to deal with his ideals as a hero and the wishes of his sponsor and the HeroTV program. Bandai decided to have real companies sponsor them because it would give it a bit flavor to it and, hey, its a great way to make some extra money. Beyond the logos appearing on the hero's suits the real companies products really aren't pushed at all.
Well said.

What are people's thoughts on it
Personally, I love it.

It's got just the right blend of wacky and serious.

Hard to describe too much without spoiling something, but if you like science fiction and you're a huge nerd, chances are you'll enjoy it.

I liked the last episode just as much as the others, but I can see why people would think it ruins everything. It just didn't for me.
I still have the Blu-ray my friend loaned me just sitting there.

I might just finish it tonight.

Well, that's why I'm putting Softenni off until Blu-rays, anyway. I guess it works, to some extent. Problem being that Softenni is actually amusing and has decent animation, whereas Ore-tachi is just a horror show in all departments. Even what little you could see of the fanservice shots looked poorly done. If any of the shows this season deserved to be dropped in a single episode, that was it. I feel bad about not giving Tiger and Bunny a shot first.

On that subject, I think Tiger and Bunny handled the opening very poorly. They could've done what several shows this season have done and either skip the OP entirely in the first episode or put it at the end. It would've made far more sense and not immediately come across as stupid. Had they done that I would've definitely watched the entire thing right away. I'm saving impressions for when I'm totally caught up but it's definitely a great show. It's just a shame how poorly the whole OP thing was handled.

Pretty much. Even the animation budget is abysmal although, to be fair again, some scenes might have been outright removed like Infinite Stratos, hence, the lack of animation.

I was laughing where your tag may have came from earlier, just to be clear.

I'm not in either Holo or Horo faction.

Izayoi said:
Also, I stand by my previous statement. It's Horo. As much as you might want to deny it, that's just the truth.

ホロ = Horo

... Um, do you seriously not understand that l and r are the same letter in Japanese? Really? Um... yeah. You're digging a hole for yourself that justifies the tag, I guess...

I'm well aware. But it's listed in references as "ro", not "lo". Why is there a debate about this?

No matter how it's pronounced, the kana is always spelled "ro", though.

I just don't understand why there's so much debate on this issue, when there is no issue.

Yeah, it's official romanization has already been proclaimed to be Holo by the author. No issue!

No, it's always spelled ロ. Romaji is just a method of representing kana using latin characters, and there are several different ways to do it. This is made even more silly because ロ is approximating something else still.

What. Source on that.
When Yen Press printed their novels they were asked why it was spelled Holo and it was at the request of the author since it's the proper spelling.

Also, just to quickly address the comment about the decision to use “Holo” instead of “Horo”… This was discussed at length with our licensor in Japan, and based on their preference — presumably through conversation with the original editorial staff and author — we were instructed that the proper spelling of the character’s name is indeed Holo. Who are we to argue?

Izayoi said:

You didn't see the picture on the previous page, where she clearly spelled her name Holo? Holo has bad handwriting, but what she's writing is clear.

And seriously, r and l are the same in Japanese, so of course when translating things to English you choose the letter that fits the word best, or the one the translator prefers. Sometimes l works better, other times it's r. What is so hard to understand about that?

Huh, I had no idea. Interesting. (Doesn't change that fact that Horo is better.) Also I'm not 100% sold on "presumably" but whatever.

Nothing, except that Holo sounds and looks stupid, so clearly "r" was the best choice here.

Holo is cooler.
On the contrary, "Holo" comes across as horrendously Engrish to me. Say it out loud. It's awkward and does not roll off the tongue very well. "Horo" is much more natural.

That was an amusing night with you guys on irc. Black Lion is the best thing. The best thing. After going through it again the Nanoha movie really shows its pacing problems. Also backstory during fight scenes seemed more prominent than when I watched it the first time. Grrrr. I just want straight action. : (

Uh, what about the kind of apples that she likes? It's pretty clear they aren't Åkerös, but what about Katy? What other types of red apples are prevalent in Northern Europe?

We need some discussion here.

So I watched GunXSword even though I was warned not to. It was alright, the antagonist was pretty stupid, but I still think it was worth it for Carmen/Fasalina/ADIOS AMIGO and some awesome songs. I feel like fighting my rival on top of a mountain during a lightning storm while we're both bloody as we ride wild albino Sabertooth Ligers with sword machine guns strapped to their backs with the GXS OP playing in the background.

Huh, speaking of older series that I recently watched, Aria was amazing.

We need more anime like that. No pandering, all scenery porn and warm fuzzy feelings in a unique setting. High school has its charms but it's starting to wear on me a bit, you know? Sci-fi SoLs are the best SoLs.

well to be fair a lot of the target audience IS high school students
and since it takes up so much of their lives I guess the appeal of crazy stuff happening at school is paying off.

That's true enough, I suppose.

Another thing we need is more of is stupidly happy, but mellow, shows. Nichijou is stupidly happy but it's very fast-paced. Aria was perfect in that regard. Slow-paced, always happy and warm. Melancholic stuff is great from time to time but I'm easily influenced emotionally and too much just makes me feel like shit.
