Shounen fans always use the excuse "but it picks up" and It's usually wrong! So do you guys think Medaka Box is going to be better or is it ultimately just a bad show through and through? Will the aforementioned genre shift change it for the better?
Really? What about Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, etc?You don't generally find magical girls tied down to some man because they're busy doing other things!
True on that point though. Also, there's always the potential for the creators of those works to exploit their characters by injecting their works with lesbian subtext, usually in an attempt to pander to the male audience.
But isn't something like YKK pretty darn nihilistic, under the surface? How does that differ so much from the stuff you're criticizing (I assume you mean things like the new Battlestar Galactica, which was good, but I stopped watching a while in because of how dark and depressing it had gotten) in any way other than the surface tone? Unless you only mean that, and the themes underneath aren't as important?Well, I come from it as a former fan of science fiction looking for something to counteract the trend of nihilism found in today's literature, television, film and video games. To me, its positivity and utopian outlook on life is precisely why I've seen the series four or five times now.
I also enjoyed the world building, even if it was just Venetian tourist porn. But that's because I watch stuff like No Reservations and The Amazing Race.
Well FSN was originally going to be this:

Yeah, I can't think of much that could possibly have been worse about that version, so I agree, it probably was a missed opportunity.I know why Nasu swapped the genders but I still feel like this might have been a missed opportunity.
That list is entirely in the wrong order, top to bottom.
Certainly a whole lot less cruel than the real Nobunaga, for sure, too!Moe Nobunaga is best Nobunaga.
The singer did die, yeah.
Depends on if you like shonen action with writing like that or not.So do you guys think Medaka Box is going to be better or is it ultimately just a bad show through and through? Will the aforementioned genre shift change it for the better?
Back when the first season aired, I definitely remember hearing some people say how the anime was better than the manga, as I said... if the second season is more like the manga, that'd definitely be some additional proof for that! It's pretty interesting that Il Teatrino is actually more similar to the source material than the first season was. Didn't know the mangaka was actually involved in the production of the second season. Hmm, do you recommend reading the manga?
:lol That's so true...Shounen fans always use the excuse "but it picks up" and It's usually wrong!

7.5/10, with THAT MC? That's kind, too kind... even if you don't have too much criteria, how awful Shirou is as a character should drop it a bit below that, I think.
The franchise is somewhat interesting, but it messes up almost as much as it does right, sadly, and this is probably the weakest of the Fate series.
Does the Eroge hold up?
Is Fate stuff even worth getting into? I recall watching that recent movie and had no clue what's going on besides the basics.
Does the Eroge hold up?
Huh. Why?Maken-ki 1
Huh. Why?
Ouza no Gemu S2 ep 1
Wow they really hit the ground running in the new season. Things felt like they were moving a mile a minute. It was great to see the characters again after so long. Chirion-sama is my husbando~! <3God I hope someone kills Jioffuri soon.
Does Seruzei Joō-sama still constantly look like she's constipated?

I'm pretty surprised of how active this thread is; didn't know Gaf liked anime this much.

Why not? It has martial arts and boobs. Until I can get my Queen's Blade fix I thought this could do, but I could have been wrong based on the first episode.

The fan service is decent in it, which is why I watched it. And outside of the mainboobscast, even more come in later and there's a bunch of em.
I always need one good fanservice show every season.
This season has the megaton of fanservice:The Dyson Air Multiplier in Korean Zombie Desk Car.
Just watch Fate/Zero. Its fucking amazing.
It's never been this busy before. I'm not exactly sure what happened.

Hell yeah!

The problem is that F/SN anime only adapted (mostly) the first of 3 routes, of which the first is the one where Shirou is downright retarded. He's much better in the UBW movie, and apparently the last route is very different from what was seen in the anime and movie. But yeah, he was breathtakingly stupid for a good 75% of the anime's run, only redeeming himself near the end.
Well, F/SN deals with mostly high-school kids most of which aren't even proper mages. Contrast that with Fate/Zero and it's not much of a contest. That being said, there are 3 Shirous and we only saw the dumbest one if we only watched the anime.
I remember trying to watch Fate/Stay Night and being bored out of my mind, is it any different?
Hell yeah!

Exception to the rule; although I personally enjoyed OP from the start, I just didn't love it till the Arlong arc.You say this as a One Piece fan?

I'd watch korean zombie desuka 2 if the last few episodes of the first season didn't turn me off completely.

It's completely different. Fate/Zero is infinitely superior to Stay Night, and the characters are much more fleshed out.
My brain keeps trying to make sense of this picture, but it only causes me pain and that I think I see something that looks like boobs in there somewhere.

Well, it's Hans Bellmer, so . . . /whistles
Tangentially related to anime because Oshii used some of his work as an inspiration. See this; probably NSFW.

I haven't seen OreImo, but I've been enjoying your impressions of the commentary, if only for the schadenfreude.OreImo AC 14
thank fuck for that!
I almost bought one of these. It doesn't seem to work any better than a normal one so I passed on it.
The Koreans only made it because they are so afraid of fan death or whatever. It's not supposed to work better or anything, but it also won't kill you at night while you sleep.
Therefore, the irony of the F/SN anime is that in 2006 it would have failed utterly to convert anyone to becoming a fan of the franchise or Type-Moon properties in general.
I'm assuming the ending of the show matches the Fate route it mostly adapts, and so it's not really a happy ending, but it was a good ending. As a proud member of the All-Around Mustache Club, I don't really have a ton of criteria for judging how good an anime really is besides was the animation pretty and did it have a good ending. The animation wasn't pretty, and Shirou's character stood out as being exceptionally ugly though the other characters fared better. But I did cry several times at the end, and that always counts for something when I rate animes.

That's good, since I thought the characters and premise were fairly interesting, but the show/pace/etc killed it for me.
I'd say Fate/Zero's strength lies in Urobuchi's writing augmenting Nasu's usual style. I think someone mentioned this before that Nasu's strength lies in the world building and general atmosphere of the setting. His character's aren't that strong though it helps that the length of the VN allows more instances of character development throughout the story. I feel Urobuchi uses his skill in plot and character development to flesh out Fate/Zero far beyond what Nasu can do alone and that makes F/Z a superior experience overall.
tldr; Fate/Zero is fucking awesome guys, don't be discouraged by the less than stellar F/SN anime.
