Nazo no Kanojo X 01:
new fetish GET.
I think I've discovered a new ideal for fanservice anime. Kanojo X is kinky while still managing to be pure class--great atmosphere, character design, and voice work really elevates a concept as simple as tasting a girl's drool to a far more sensual level of eroticism than the concept seems capable of. Series in which the female enjoys being the object of perverse desire and actively encourages the male protagonist to indulge his desires are rare.
It could be argued that Kanojo X is just a more subtle form of "sudden girlfriend appearance", but I'm choosing to view it as a romance with an assertive female motivated by the kind of kinky desires almost always reserved for male characters. Although
is Urabe's ultimate goal, a lot of the content looks like it's going to be an exploration of eroticism for its own sake and not as any kind of foreplay, all of which differs pretty strongly from how sexual desire is usually represented in anime romances.
For all of the lecherous high schoolers and series devoted entirely to pantyshots and jiggling breasts, sexuality is still depicted in a conservative, homogenized, straightforward manner in anime (for the sake of the discussion, let's exclude hentai). Man falls in love with woman because she's cute/has nice tits, all future motivations boil down to wanting to fuck her because she's cute/has nice tits, girl couldn't care less about sex and is happy holding hands and playing gaarufurendo even though her entire body/demeanor is explosively erotic to everyone around her. Urabe turns a lot of this on its head and Kanojo X has the potential to be something really interesting for the discerning service fan.
Oh, and before I forget, URABE'S SEIYUU IS AMAZING. THIS MUST BE WHAT OMIGAWA FANS FELT WHEN THEY WATCHED THE FIRST EPISODE OF SOUL EATER. I lack adequate adjectives to describe what her voice makes me feel, but hearing her laughter was one of the single greatest auditory experiences I've had watching an anime. Her delivery is so natural, the tone of her voice so deep and melodious and feminine. I'm probably going to watch each episode of Kanojo X several times a week just to hear more.
