Spring Anime 2012 | Welcome Home, Space Cowboy

Does anyone know what happened to the Gintama, Beelzebub and Ao No Exorcist animes? I dont think Gintama's finished, must be on halt for catching up to the manga, but the other two I'm not sure of.

Gintama is indeed on hiatus after getting uncomfortably close to the manga. I expect it back after a year like last time.

Blue Exorcist had an original TV ending and has a movie coming out next winter.

Who knows about Beelzebub, but it doesn't seem like anyone liked it so it's not a loss. Especially since it gave way to Space Bros.

One Piece Timeskip spoils.

So, I know Zoro has one eye blinded all the time now...but does he really have one eye blinded all the time now? Has it affected him negatively (I doubt it, but am curious)? I put the OP anime on hold shortly after the reunion.

Zoro is too epic to be negatively impacted by anything like that! Terrible design choice on Oda's part though, scars and injuries are just not that cool :/

I think the general point is that most people just want a continuity of the Fate/Zero story done in the same quality as the Fate/Zero anime in writing, production values, and direction. Heaven's Feel is thrown around because it's the only route that hasn't been adapted, so using it as a base to attract the most amount of potential fans (both existing F/SN fans and non-F/SN fans) makes snese.

Really they should just make an Alexander the Conqueror anime that doesn't suck shit like Reign.

You have to watch the edited/cut version and appreciate it.
And appreciate I did!

Cant wait until were out of this arc, hopefully before the beginning of fall.
Considering that they seem to be going a chapter an episode, I'd say the end of the Fishman Island arc will be around October/November.

To be fair, I haven't watched FSN nor played the VN, but...

Fate/Stay Night turns my determined, adorable adolescent Zecchan from the F/Z specials into a
House lady Dojo teacher!
(though the nickname "Tiger" is cool) This does not increase my interest...
She doesn't have a huge role in FSN anyway, but...
she's the leader and teacher of the Taiga Dojo, also called 'The Bad Ending Corner'! Plus Illya is her student, which means Einzbern and Fujimura switched roles!
You can't hate that!

Okay, I admit, that's pretty sweet in relation to the specials.

Rider

I'll take one

I found A-Channel pretty cheap on DVD and thinking about buying it and was wondering if there was anything wrong with the set. Haven't found any reviews on it.

Everything is tsundere to me
Huh, I coulda sworn that infirmary scene was in there... But then, what's out there of the manga proper isn't much, so it could be drawing from an even later chapter. And I agree, there was a bunch of stuff in there that was put into different context (such as where FNC was thinking about such things), and some of it's just a fleshing out of what was in the manga (like that shed collapsing). What I meant was that the scenarios themselves are true to the manga. Honestly, I feel like the show in general is staying pretty dang true, despite the obvious otaku baiting with all the fanservice, and it retains everything I loved about the manga with some added "gun porn" jokes. I mean, think about it, when they were explaining what every part of the gun correlates to on the girls and it was ripe for "Wait, this makes no sense" jokes, in the manga, they just showed a field stripping manual and then the obvious association the teacher made. They kept the spirit where it counts, so I'm happy enough with that. Just as long as the action is up to par and the gun jokes keep coming, I'm happy. :3

The Light of El Cantare
Nazo no Kanojo X 01:

new fetish GET.

I think I've discovered a new ideal for fanservice anime. Kanojo X is kinky while still managing to be pure class--great atmosphere, character design, and voice work really elevates a concept as simple as tasting a girl's drool to a far more sensual level of eroticism than the concept seems capable of. Series in which the female enjoys being the object of perverse desire and actively encourages the male protagonist to indulge his desires are rare.

It could be argued that Kanojo X is just a more subtle form of "sudden girlfriend appearance", but I'm choosing to view it as a romance with an assertive female motivated by the kind of kinky desires almost always reserved for male characters. Although
having sex with Tsubaki
is Urabe's ultimate goal, a lot of the content looks like it's going to be an exploration of eroticism for its own sake and not as any kind of foreplay, all of which differs pretty strongly from how sexual desire is usually represented in anime romances.

For all of the lecherous high schoolers and series devoted entirely to pantyshots and jiggling breasts, sexuality is still depicted in a conservative, homogenized, straightforward manner in anime (for the sake of the discussion, let's exclude hentai). Man falls in love with woman because she's cute/has nice tits, all future motivations boil down to wanting to fuck her because she's cute/has nice tits, girl couldn't care less about sex and is happy holding hands and playing gaarufurendo even though her entire body/demeanor is explosively erotic to everyone around her. Urabe turns a lot of this on its head and Kanojo X has the potential to be something really interesting for the discerning service fan.

Oh, and before I forget, URABE'S SEIYUU IS AMAZING. THIS MUST BE WHAT OMIGAWA FANS FELT WHEN THEY WATCHED THE FIRST EPISODE OF SOUL EATER. I lack adequate adjectives to describe what her voice makes me feel, but hearing her laughter was one of the single greatest auditory experiences I've had watching an anime. Her delivery is so natural, the tone of her voice so deep and melodious and feminine. I'm probably going to watch each episode of Kanojo X several times a week just to hear more.

Fate Zero 9

That is one ambitious wife.

Reminds me of 24 's Sherry Palmer.

It's odd how boss Rider is in this series... and how 'underwhelming' Saber is.

Not even on mania.com?

I just remember that it came with all the OVA specials, which is nice I suppose. Certainly it's something you can't assume anyway.

I really like Fate/Zero's attention to detail. While not everything is 100% accurate all the time, enough attention to paid to making something look convincing such that a casual bit of research will show that the designers didn't just pull shit out of their ass without proper reference.

Case in point:

I don't think it's odd. Rider had a massive empire while Saber ruled a puny island.

I should probably stop insulting her kingdom now.

Don't act like you didn't call this from the beginning!

Much appreciated as the aerial scenes (in cockpit) felt like they went by pretty hastily.

Someone's sleeping on the couch tonight. :(

The Nakamura and Ito openings looks similar to their style. Like you said a lot of motion and physics in the stuff Ito does, and the PenguDrum style in Nakamuras'.

Compilation of some of Ito's work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noOELIxgG2w
It's so good it might even make you almost want to watch Naruto!

I checked out some highlights from brotherhood to see what Yoshimichi Kameda had done.... damn!

On a relevant note, do you know if the weekly Japacon TV does behind the scenes stuff?

Damnit. I can't be the ONLY one who liked the first episode right?

No, I've seen at least one other person post in this thread who also likes exposition dumps.

To be fair there are some good scenes in it. It's just that it's fifty minutes long and the manner in which they dump info is too often just people talking.

I liked it.

I got flack for it a couple pages back yesterday. You're not the only one. I think it's one of the better episodes of the first season.

I can make this thread real because it still exists within the hearts of ALL of us!

BEHOLD MY PEERLESS ARMY!

Their posts have been banished to community, and their avatars have been offered to NeoGAF as Heroic Spirits. Yet these legendary posters remain loyal to me! My bond with them is my greatest treasure, my path of modship!

What are you talking about? Upotte!! is the biggest production we could hope for out of anime this season!
Nothing's gonna top Nazo no Kanojo X this season. I just don't see how they would do it.

Is that just a roundabout way of saying you're rather unpopular and tend to piss people off? :)
Only you, duckroll. :3

Not even the power of yuri could save A-Channel.
If there was any yuri in it in the first place, it might just have.

Fate/Zero 1

I was worried that this episode would be a chore to watch based from impressions, however, I found it pretty engaging, since I know nothing about the Fate series world.

Currently I'm rooting for
Kariya
.

Fate/Zero 2

The end sequence was pretty damn awesome.

Rider is a boss. Literally!
