The thing to know, then, is that unlike the game, where you play as a modern-day Japanese guy dropped into this world and, yes, can romance pretty much all of the characters, there are no male characters of note in the anime (well, there is one minor one, but he's not very important at all and rarely appears). It's all about the female cast, and that cast is huge, of course, given that it's RotTK.
As for why it's somewhat popular... because it's cute and funny and is RotTK, I assume?
I don't dislike any of the four, but I'd consider the opposite order for that. At least, Switzerland would probably be in first, anyway. Between the other three I'm less sure.
Also, when they showed them all firing on auto mode at the halfway point, there was no muzzle rise. Thats not right. I've fired an automatic before. That son of a bitch rises unless you fire in short bursts. Otherwise you shoot holes in the ceiling.
Taking gun porn to levels I never imagined and only Japan could conceive.
I'm assuming it's like Soul Eater where they physically transform into guns, no sign of that in this episode but they play that concept alot, the school setup so far is like Infinite Stratos in that they differenciate the students by country, well they make note which guns come from which country, we already have an "Ichiroku-chan no ecchi" and the format seems to be following 4 girls like we've seen a bajillion times before.
Nope, no transforming here. Also, while in terms of being divided by countries it's a bit like IS, it's not actually a harem show, as far as I know anyway, so it's not like it in that respect.
Saikano's depressing, but it's more bad than anything else, unfortunately. The story is so, SO stupid, and intellectually insulting and wrong, too. Yeah, I didn't like it at all...
And no, not just because it's depressing and apocalyptic. Of course I often dislike such things, but when done right, like in Texhnolyze, I can like such shows.
Saikano... was very, VERY far from that level of quality, to say the least.
in Fate/Extra? I just read some synposises since I refuse to play the game any further.
I know especially with Dynasty Warriors still selling, I don't believe there hasn't been at least one or two characters marketed in Fate stuff. I don't understand the lack of Japanese historical figures like Miyamoto Musashi or whatever, when they're so prominent and common in anime.
I'm desperate here. An empty KyoAni block holds the slim possibility of a revival.
Also Gatoh is working on a KyoAni show so he has links with the company and he mentioned awhile ago that he was working on a long awaited project. I BELIEVE!
Don't worry too much about that, just enjoy HeartCatch, what Hito means is that it takes a while for HeartCatch to really do something to distinguish itself from other magical girl shows, but when it does, it gets really awesome.

Zhang He? Is that Zhang Fei? Whatever the case though, the male character is
Fake Ryuubi. That is, a guy late in S1 who goes around pretending to be Liu Bei, because Ryuubi (the real, female Liu Bei) didn't appear in the first season.
... Given how much of an annoying idiot she is, though, she was better off absent... but anyway.
My favorite character was S1's main character, Kan'nu, aka Guan Yu. Kan'nu's a good lead. She's a good fighter, decent leader, not too stupid, wears green...

The real issue here is that usually the main reason LN adaptations get greenlit is the hope that they'll increase sales of the LN. But the Full Metal Panic series is over, and another season isn't going to be doing much to increase its sales.
Incidentally this is also the reason that another season of Spice and Wolf is highly unlikely.

They might do an adaptation of Another. They could also use Another as justification for another cour of FMP. It's currently running. I don't know the popularity/sales though.

I meant more along the lines of, "not be so horribly stiff and tied to formula, not give the annoying as hell mascots so much screen time, and not being so fucking dull overall."
Granted, it was never as tedious as Precure Max Heart.

Nope, Zhang He is a really effeminate officer allied with Wei. Apparently Koihime Musou uses the Japanese readings of the characters' names, so let me see if I can find Zhang He's Japanese name and I'll try to get back to you on that.
though from the sound of it, fake Liu Bei has nothing to do with Zhang He so I suppose just nevermind on that

The biggest limiter to another season of FMP is that the sales for it bombed. Now that KyoAni's got a taste of that sweet K-ON nectar, I'm not sure if they would take the risk on a sequel. I mean weirder things have happened(like Suda51 still being employed) but it's unlikely on that premise alone. I could theoretically see another studio such as A-1 taking a shot at it but it's hard to see KyoAni doing it themselves.
Yes it would be weird but they could view it as a sort of reboot to the franchise. They could also fill in certain events prior with flashbacks. It's not ideal but I could see this being done if the producers were determined not to continue with the FMP storyline. It's certainly better than nothing.
The Hyouka novel is actually 11 years old, although the series it started has had more recent entries. It's a weird choice. But as you said, it hasn't had an adaptation, and there's definitely a good chance of the anime doing good things for its sales.
Incidentally, this reminds me that the sales of the first Magic Tree House book skyrocketed in Japan upon the release of the recent anime movie adaptation.

It really has. But, every night, and for a bout of incredibly bad timing, I've decided to tackle a bit of my backlog along with this monster season. I'm 8 eps into FMAB atm, and going to do JoJo along side it.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia 1
Tacky, is the quickest way to describe that one. Bad dialogues, bad art, bad animation, and even clumsier feeling story-boarding--like many of you guys have mentioned, the blatant repetition being the biggest offender. I was hoping that it'd explore her being a bit of a devil from the get go, rather than
relegate the aspect to a simple shot at the end, and jump head on into harem hijinks
for just about all of the episode.
I hear that the manga's actually kind of good, and the art does look leagues above what is on offer here, so I'll give it a read before I write this off completely. Regardless, it's safe to say that I won't be watching anymore of this.
The OP, Choir Jail, (ED in this ep) is pretty bomb though. I'm an absolute sucker for power pop, and that double bass spoke to the heart. Also to note, I do love that it's another OP this season that gives a bit of insight into the character, though this does it with a much heavier hand than say: Lupin or Champloo's ED.
I think KyoAni, for better or worse, wants to do stuff that will be massive sales successes. They most likely do not want to do middling stuff anymore.
(Then again, Nichijou)

I think the question here is if another season of FMP would do anything for novel sales that the first three seasons didn't already.
Anyway, if KyoAni ends up returning to one of their old franchises it'll be Haruhi, no question.
They never even bothered to follow up on Lucky Star and that was a hit. I agree that its going to be Haruhi since that is the super cash cow next to K-On.

I'm not even sure what the deal is with Haruhi as the Endless 8 thing didn't go over well at all. Disappearance is very good though so maybe they do care about the franchise.

As stated earlier KyoAni is probably looking for blockbuster hits now and FMP would be a middling project. By handing off the license to another studio Kadokawa could generate revenue and not use their top studio to do so.
Exactly... and the Full Metal Panic Light Novels have been finished since August 2010.. even if it got a final series I doubt KyoAni will be behind it (Gatoh has a good relationship with Gonzo as well... he did the script for both Druaga seasons) and it will probably get the ZnT4 treatment and have to go through a heap of books and leave lots of stuff out.
meh. If repeating the first part of the show wasn't already a blatant cost-cutting measure, it would still be unbelievably stupid because the original sequence was already indicating HEY, THIS IS ALL HAPPENING BECAUSE OF A GHOST about as directly as it possibly could. Everyone's pessimism about Silver Link appears to have been well-founded. This was some of the most hamfisted exposition and character establishment I've ever seen, though it didn't help that the characters seem pretty dull regardless.
Add in some really terrible CG backgrounds and a general lack of animation and this one can pretty much be declared dead on arrival. I wonder whether I'll drop this or Medaka Box first.
I'm going to join in with all the cool kids and start watching Fate/Zero, Duckroll recommends it so what could go wrong?
