Considering the prestige of the Matou family and Tokiomi's lack of surprise at Kariya's appearance and methods, I think he knows well enough what life is like in the Matou household. Further, if he doesn't know, then I don't think he'd really care if he found out.

That's super great for Sola-Ui, but you're disregarding the fact that
she literally tortured her husband then left him to rot on a stretcher in an abandoned building.

Moral relativity only goes so far.

Ok, I guess I can agree with this. Tokiomi wouldn't care once he found out about the methods of the Matou family. He'd say it's in pursuit of greater magical power and all that is good, etc. I don't know about knowing about the
super secret underground bug hole
.

Ok, Sola-Ui's a bit crazy I guess. She does have some basis for her insanity, moreso than others.

This too. I'm pretty sure with all of the spying they do against one another for these wars he can't be that ignorant.

I'm sure each of the Big Three magical families in Fuyuki have certain magical defences and fields. I'm sure the position of their houses/castles would also be in some specific leyline for maximum magical defence. They would know of some secrets but not all. I don't think Tokiomi would have found about the
secret bug basement
.

If Tokiomi is not able to infer anything about their family after episode 14 of F/Z I would imagine he has very serious brain damage.

I think he has a very idealized view of the world. Tokiomi and Kariya both have very different idealized views of the world and people which inform their views (and this is what makes that confrontation so interesting to me).

I think he can probably infer that the Matou family might not exactly be all roses and kittens, but I don't think that would lead him to immediately jumping to all sorts of craziness. He's an idealist when it comes to mages and that world, and he's looking at everything through that tint.

If Tokiomi is not able to infer anything about their family after episode 14 of F/Z I would imagine he has very serious brain damage.

It also could be he sees Kariya's condition as karma for turning towards his family's methods now. The idea of turning one's back on their duty as magi is rather reprehensible in any magi's eyes.

But none of that casts a shadow on Kariya's moral purity. Until he steps off his white charger, he's still very much a knight in fleshy, undulating armor.

To me, a nutjob is someone who has no grasp on reality or has an utterly perverse world view, and that's Tokiomi through and through.

I'd go for deranged white knight but I get your point. You're right, even when Berserker lost control
and attacked Saber ep 5ish
, Kariya didn't want it to happen but couldn't reign Berserker back in.

I can agree with you on Tokiomi not having a grasp on reality. Something to note is that all mages from the Clock Tower are kind of like that already.

I must confess that I've never seen a White Fox show before, but now that I have I can see why they have such a poor reputation. This is a concept that is all about stylish action and there is no sense of style to be found. Static pans, bland camera work, bad CG vehicles, no good animation, mediocre character designs (I especially dislike Koko's): the visuals do not impress.

The direction is pretty lousy as well: the action has no energy and the pacing is disjointed. We're given a large cast of characters and a setting of international political intrigue, but we're not given a good idea of who most of these people are, what is going on, or why we should care about any of it. I'm still not clear on who the various players are supposed to be, and the load of unexplained weapons terminology thrown around made my eyes glaze over.

The music is terrible, soul-crushingly bad. It's all repetitive junk whose attempts at excitement with its "untz untz untz" beat just come off as dull. The music direction is at fault as well, as a single track gets played for far too long without attempting to reflect the changes in mood occurring in the story.

In fairness, there was one element that I liked: Koko's eccentric antics can be rather amusing. Unfortunately "Her name is Koko She is loco I said Oh No" in the next episode preview made me retroactively despise everything about her.

I'll watch Black Lagoon instead.

G Gundam 35

Chibodee vs Domon and it delivered fully. Musical direction of the episode seemed more inspired than usual too as the track selection was ace.

Gundam 00 S2 11

Man, I can't see this having any sort of satisfying conclusion. I usually enjoy space battles no matter how dumb but this was pushing it even for me.
The Celestial Being base was discovered using quantum brainwaves, the 0 Raiser looks to be hax, it evidently has the ability to disembody everyone so they're sitting in an awkward naked position, but that's not even the worst. The enemy mobile suits cloaked themselves... with actual cloaks.

smh

Oreimo 3

I should hate his show but I just can't.

Shiba Inuko-san 2

Sort of a letdown. I wish it was more like Poyopoyo where there's a couple jokes thrown in rather than one and done.

Koutetsuhshin Jeeg 4

I don't think I'd touched on the OP of this show yet.
It's a track called STORMBRINGER by JAM Project and has that same bombast and oomph that Kanjite Knight in Shin Mazniger Z had that gets one absolutely psyched for the episode.

Episode itself was hilarious when not surreal.

Mysterious Girlfriend X 1

Big O? Akira has good taste. It's amazing how a bizarre premise can become a great show in the right hands. This was fantastic.

Heartcatch Precure 7

I probably shouldn't watch both this and Saint Seiya Omega at the same time as I wondered which Saint the student council president was going to be. That said, the pres was probably the most sympathetic victim so far.

Sailor Moon S 95

Return of Naru! Also between this and the R movie, Ami sure does like speculating about the personal lives of others.

Can't tell if stylistic choice or animation error.

Even when its just dialogue and still images layered over a background, Saturn and Uranus are so elegant.

The Jormungand female character designs are some of the worst I've ever seen. Thought it might just be Koko, but the eye bandage girl looked terrible as well. Which is odd, because the males looked pretty standard.

Other than that and the ear bleed inducing opening theme, I thought it was alright. The character personalities are the only real highlight.

You should see a doctor about that.
It was surprisingly inoffensive about the subject matter considering how fetishistic anime tends to be regarding family dynamics. I don't see the problem with the show beyond some bad writing regarding Kirino's overachiever status (
I WANT MY ANIMU TOO
).

Yeah, I think the overselling of the fetish angle by others and getting something a little more straightforward was nice. Also it reminds me of this thread sometimes:

Rurouni Kenshin New Kyoto Arc Part 1

Wow... this was surprisingly terrible. I didn't realize the new OVA/movie series would just be a condensed remake of the kyoto arc. It doesn't help that the animation isn't smooth at all! Studio Deen!!!!! !@#!@#!#!@

The facial expressions were also kinda meh, and it lacked the... 'magic' of the show =/

Disappoint.

Just embrace it. The show is wonderful. Sorry, Femmeworth.

I thought this too and I'm one of the biggest RK fans around :( Everything just felt so sterile. Its like they thought, hey people liked Tsuiokuhen, lets try to apply that to the Kyoto Arc and then failing miserably.

I think I may be the only person in the world that didn't dislike the Shin Kyoto Hen OVA. And I have the entire Rurouni Kenshin manga collection somewhere at home.
Coppe is the true unsung hero of this show.

Dune kicks ass, that was with his power sealed, and he trounced all of them?

However will our heroines pull this one off? By going to motherfucking SPACE. HELL YEAH.

slightly spoilery image
I told you the wait paid off.

We also live in a post sword of the stranger world. this stuff is embarrassing. I've seen better choreographed fights in Bleach >.>"

They didn't even give the swordhunter his awesome bendy sword. Must have been too expensive to animate.

The main demand for these animators are to work on robot shows where you get maximum returns because having good robot fights could actually increase sales. The impact of good 2D car, plane, or ship animation on sales in a normal series which doesn't really have anything to do with those things (they're just either background or props which come up when the situation calls for it) is basically negligible..

Yeah, if a character takes a cab to get from location A to location B you might as well make it CG, because it isn't important.

Except to me.

Honestly normally episodes dedicated to winter do literally nothing for me anymore. I haven't seen snow in person in just a little under a decade now. The entire concept seems so foreign to me.

But MLP is different, enough to warm my icy heart and enjoy the wonders of winter once again (from afar). The Winter Wrap Up song itself to start the episode is simply amazing. It's just 3 minutes of catchy fun. I really enjoy the musical segments in this show and this episode gave plenty of it.

Twilight spends the entire episode fretting about how useless she is without magic which did make me sad. But she finally bucked up and figured out that all everypony is useless and needed somebody to whip them in shape. She will totally be the mayor of Ponyville, neigh, the Princess of all of Equestria one day because she's totally awesome.

Oh man the streamlined character designs are so bad. I wouldn't have even been able to tell who Misao was if she hadn't been wearing her trademark ninja costume.

The 90s are never coming back, are they? :(

Animating hair is infinitely more complex than cars. Imagine a car driving along a road, and there's a bunch of cars in front of it and in the back of it, and there are many roads, and all the roads are twisting and overlapping, and there's an earthquake causing the roads to undulate, or gravity breaks down and the roads start floating into the air, and so on and so forth.

It certainly took those Tangled animators a long time.

Damning stuff. I haven't seen this new OVA, but is it really that awful? I mean, Bleach choreography is a low hurdle to get over.

it will make you Darth Vader yell "DEEN!!!!!".

It's... embarrassingly bad.

And bleach has quite a bit of sakuga moments for a 200+ eps show (probably the most imo).

byakuya-vs-koga-o.gif

ironically the fillers tend to look better because they don't have to follow kubo's horrendously drawn fight scenes.

nope. And no comedy moments and random sex scene o_O.

You know what I really miss? The high pitch 90's sword swinging/clashing sound effect you hear in anime and movies.

Pretty much yes. It honestly baffles me as to why there aren't more people who can animate a car. I mean we're not talking about elaborately crafted classic cars like the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing in Fate Zero. I'm talking about simpler vehicles like a Toyota Crown or Mercedes E class like you see in the typical anime series. Those cannot be that difficult to accurately draw or animate. In fact, I know they arent.

It's not even constrained to Japan though, Western animation like the Illusionist has CG mechanical objects. Drawings trains and cars in stuff is apparently too much hard work,

The poor direction and the jarring use of CG didn't really stop me from finding it somewhat enjoyable. I'm really only watching this because the premise interests me so I'll give it a few episodes to see if it gets any better. That ED's lazy as fuck.

Farewell, Kumojacky and Cobraja.
;_;

Fight scenes everywhere, but they were good ones. It looks like the final arc of the story will revolve more around these three then Dune.
I wish all the Desertrian fights had followed this formula instead. :(
No. It's definitely not the best song in MLP, that honor goes to "Smile, Smile, Smile", but it's still a great song.
Speaking strictly of Season 1 songs, Art of the Dress is not only catchier, but fun in how it takes a jab at the modelling industry.

I'd like cel animation back too, but you can't turn back the clock.

I was actually commenting on how I missed 90s character designs rather than any sort of statement on the cel vs. digital argument, but it's :( all the same.

I'll never stop missing cel animation, either

This conversation about mechanical animation makes me look at the passion many Japanese animators had for the 'motor world'. And now I'll post the following link to a conversation because, really... who doesn't want to see two of the living best, most influential and complete animators, as are Yasuo 'Mr. Jeep' Ōtsuka and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, talk about motorized vehicles (http://web.archive.org/web/20010220124237/http://www.gainax.co.jp/special/sada_otsuka/index-e.html)?

Clearly we need another wartime generation to grow up drawing planes, tanks, jeeps and other stuff rather than little girls!
