That autotune Engrish OP. I'm warm to the idea of this but it was really hard to get into this episode at all. There just isn't much context to what's going on here. Who are these people? What do they really do? Even after watching the episode these veils weren't lifted and I didn't feel any closer to understanding the world.

I'm not sure I can ever really remember this happening but I find the art incredibly distracting. There's this weird inconsistency where certain characters have very thickly drawn eyelashes, but they don't go around the whole eye and they don't show up on many characters. For almost the entire episode I kept finding myself drawn to how it looks like these alien characters have two sets of eyebrows, the intended set often being in bizarre locations.

It seems remarkably unlikely this show will improve. Not sure I'll watch more of it if I can help it.

I feel like I should subject myself to more Oreimo when I get home. I assume it's a side affect of being in Vegas.

I feel like that show has all the elements required for me to like it except that somehow it physically disgusts me to watch. Like, I love tsunderes, I love shows about geekdom, I love the character design and art style... but argh goddamnit.

Tomodachi wa Mahou
Mai Ritoru Poni: Yuujou Wa Mahou 12

Episode starts off delving into the significance of cutie marks. Evidently ponies really don't age into full blown horses or something. Applebloom's teacher has to be like 40 or something. This scene was a painful reminder of how horrid everypony looked back in the 80s.

Diamond Tiara and her lackey are big jerkfaces. The Twist in the episode was even worse, it really did look like poor Applebloom would be all alone :(

But then the most peaceful and adorable crusaders in all of history happen. So cutie!

Applebloom episodes are the best episodes. This is an undeniable fact. Such a fun episode.

But what the hell is the end of this episode about? Twilight Sparkle makes her cameo to fill in Princess Celestia but the letter never actually says what took place in the episode. And yet somehow Princess Celestia knows exactly what Twilight Sparkle was talking about as she stares at her fine developed rump as the show fades to credits. I don't trust this Princess one bit.

Previews for shows are ridiculously spoilery. Dunno why shows allow them. I guess to drum up interest for the next episode but do they have to give away plot points and important scenes?

Not all of them. Some of them are amazing, see Penguin Drum.

I was actually commenting on how I missed 90s character designs rather than any sort of statement on the cel vs. digital argument, but it's :( all the same.

I'll never stop missing cel animation, either
A significant amount of Tsuiokuhen (or Trust & Betrayal but that title sounds dumb) was done digitally -- so cel vs digital has nothing to do with it really. Modern DEEN is just no good.

Yeah I'm not sure I'll be sticking with this much longer. The pacing is ridiculous, it seems to be moving way to fast for anything to be actually meaningful.

It's not often that I get to chastise a show for moving too fast but if you don't give the characters and the situations in your show a second to breathe we'll never be able to connect to them and ultimately we won't care about what happens.

Clearly we need another wartime generation to grow up drawing planes, tanks, jeeps and other stuff rather than little girls!

The die is already cast. The children of the Chinese Civil War will come of age drawing planes, tanks, and jeeps that are also little girls.

Poor Yuri really didn't get much out of this, her father tried to make a clone to replace her, and then dies right after they get reunited. And Dark Precure didn't survive either. :( And they didn't even show her making the winning pose with the other Precure. :(
She learned to move on, just like with Cologne. Sometimes that's just as much of a reward.

I agree about it being two seasons too long.

Yea that's my least favorite season 1 song mainly due to the way it stops and goes and not a fan of Rarity's singing voice. It's amazing how much better the songs are in season 2. The Flim Flam Brothers song is absolutely amazing.

Cutie Marks = Puberty = Boobs

Just think about it.

I think of it as a tramp stamp.

Fate/Zero 01:

I'll give this one or two more episodes, but so far this is totally not my thing. So far the characters are bastards, and one scene in particular just rubbed me ever so wrong. Some people are impressed by shock value; I'm not one of those people.

You may end up being very good in the end... but you've left me with a VERY poor impression, Fate/Zero.

Fate/Zero 1 is truly one of the worst first episodes to a genuinely good show that I've seen in a long time. It's probably turned plenty of people off who don't participate in threads such as this one where people talk about how the show improves as it goes on.
After rewatching it, I actually like the first episode of F/Z. Yeah it's a lot of dialogue but a lot of it was necessary in order to introduce the characters and their motives. I have a better grasp of the rivalry between Kiritsugu and Kirei and after spending some time with the VN I have a greater appreciation for some of the supporting characters too.

Not gonna lie though, the last few minutes of that episode were so great.

That's just Stockholm syndrome speaking!

It was very much a necessary episode. It could have been handled better but it would have cost a fortune(moreso I guess).

Even if some people aren't super into it the episode has nothing on the Steins;Gate opener.

Isn't it a bit too early to start with the lists? I mean, there's still a number of shows that have yet to air...

We've got over 13,000 posts. It's time!
...

Now I really AM depressed.

You're not a villain while Hix still stalks the Earth.
Wrong.

Ringo is amazing. She's a fascinating character.

Truer words where never spoken. Well, apart from when Rider gets TOLD (and not just told to stay in the kitchen).

When you finally see the light and embrace Fate/Zero ep1. Yes, his fate is in your hands. It seems he has zero chance. :(

Quite frankly I have issues with Bebop. I think there were too many filler episodes and much preferred ones that focused on the main characters and especially the ones that centered on Spike and Vicious.

The Steins;Gate opening episode was a very directed gamble though that paid off in spades in the end.
I didn't come back to the show until it had finished its run because of the first episode. You don't gamble around with the introduction because first impressions are important for establishing a creative work.

Fate Stay/Night 01:

This is like, the exact opposite of Fate/Zero. The artwork/animation aren't up to snuff and there's less going on. But I like it more at the moment. Except for the main character who I don't care for, I already like the rest of the cast a lot more. Or at least I don't hate them as much. When I have more time I may watch more of this.

Okay, now you're working towards being a villain!

I don't understand how an episodically-structured show can have "filler episodes".

The info dump and exposition were a necessary evil. I thought it was a pretty good introduction but I participate in Fate power level discussions so my opinion is invalid.

Steins;Gate first episode was pretty boring. Maybe TTGL first ep level of boring.

Another poster who doesn't understand what the term "filler episode" means.

It did establish certain things in the show and was obviously needed for the main narrative. Time travel always becomes a clusterfuck.

When I say filler I mean it's spinning its wheels inbetween the more character building/backstory episodes.

You might need words to explain your views on this!

Seemed cliche with the whole 'boy finding magical item in the middle of nowhere' + Kamina was pretty annoying the first time around. I think I picked up and dropped TTGL 3 times before finally getting through it.

Thankfully, everything goes epic after that and Kamina is awesome, etc

I love TTGL but that first episode gives a pretty bad impression.

I felt the same. First episode underwhelmed but it picked up shortly thereafter.

Actually no you are the worst.
