Loved the Ringo-chan scene. Loved the sausage scene.

I thought that the first few episodes were the best. The vomiting, the scary stories, the crossdressing. Still consistently good though and almost no recycling of jokes. Great end to a great series.

I'm seriously considering watching Gintama to fill in the void. I remember watching like 3 episodes of Gintama some time ago and it wasn't that great. Does it get better later on?

her moments where she was free of all the BS though, like the relatively drama-free heart to heart she had with Ryuuji on the camping trip. I can definitely agree in saying that she wasn't structured as well as she could have been, given that they had already all the pieces in place, but they did her well enou--No. As swiftly as they did it, they covered enough facets to sell her as something more than a caricature with me.

I don't think Minori was really bipolar, it seems like her whole deal was that she ignores problems she feels she can't deal with even at the expense of others. Consider that she liked Ryuuji from the very start and didn't make a move because of Taiga, and yet when (in)directly prompted from Ryuuji's advance twice, she gave a wishy washy non-committal reply each time (the second being worse of course because of the circumstances) and furthermore tried to pretend nothing ever happened which of course made things worse. It wasn't until the chocolate scene when she figured out what was actually going on when she said 'to hell with it' and took direct action to finally resolve the situation with no more games, including confessing that she liked Ryuuji all along and explaining why she did what she did. That was the climax of her character arc.

up until the final episodes. I think it was just the

Cultural Festival arc that bothered me the most. Minori just becomes Gloomy Sadgirl when Ryuuji talks positively about Taiga's father and the first thing I was thinking was, "MINORI, Y U NO TELL RYUUJI THE TRUTH (about Taiga's father).

You might as well watch a real karuta tournament at that point.

I've tried to apply the Chihayafuru soundtrack to some of the karuta matches on YouTube. It doesn't pack the same oomph (for obvious reasons) but I enjoyed myself.

Like he said,go watch ep 79 if you want convincing. It's quite slow in the beginning but it picks up as the episodes goes by and it's a awesome ride to the end. Look at Wonzo, he's enjoying himself.

Exactly right. So much has happened in those three episodes, and past the first (of which the exposition is really needed to set up the entire show's rules) none of it really felt drawn out to me.

It's because the infodumps in F/Z are actually expository and establish the groundwork upon which everything in the show builds instead of being an arbitrary stream of throwaway fictional technological terms that are only relevant for the moment that they're employed in the show and only exist to give artificial depth to the science fiction.

White fox is a new studio and they already have great track record for an anime studio, they've made only 3 anime so far.

At best, their productions have been average, at worse they've been disastrous. There's no reason to be excited for anything they're doing.

Seriously. All the expository information is so crucial in that show, especially the beginning stuff. Without that, people not familiar with that particular Type-Moon-verse would have no clue what the fuck is happening. The concept is way foreign enough (and totally cool) that it needs it (and i'm glad it got it).

I mean seriously, why are people like King Arthur and Gilgamesh in (kinda present-day) Japan? Without any of that info, everyone would seriously have no idea what the hell was going on. Not to mention almost all the major players are established and fleshed out with a personality, and let their tactics and desires further what kind of people they each are.

If we ignore, for a moment, that 'slice of life' isn't a particularly well defined genre I think it's worth pointing out that most shows which have been called 'slice of life' don't really feature drama or action on a regular basis. Cowby Bebop is an episodic show which crosses over a few genre lines, but I don't think I've ever heard it described in those terms because they aren't appropriate.

Why? It's just a fine "side story" in the series which works because it's not really covered in too much detail. If a show has mysteries, like in LOST, these elements work better when they aren't explained in detail to the audience because that makes them less interesting.
