They look terrible. That gradient shading effect and the way the show is lit looks absolutely awful. It must be embarrassing to have that airing next to a show that looks like this:
Crazy amount of CG but it fits in well enough so I won't complain. I dunno if I like the way it looks or am sorta put off by it though. I had a difficult time investing much in the show. It wasn't bad but the everyone in this so far just seems defined by some wacky trait, and most of the weird situations didn't really feel like they were justified in a world that still has some grounding in reality. Not sure this is really my thing but I'm open to giving it a couple more shots.
I loved the colors in Tsuritama. That pretty much overrode any other concerns I had with it. I haven't seen this much color in an anime since Ponyo and it makes me super happy.
I'm gonna have to rewatch it though. I fell asleep a couple times during it -_-

Those are supposed to look better? I personally love the style used in Apollon, and the lighting I find amazing--the music shop, especially so. Every shop I've been in, myself, has used that exact palette of brown/orange/black, and was/is just as dimly lit. It's almost kind of scary how much that pulled me in on a personal level. I actually went 'no fucking way' when they stepped into the shop. Every one. It's nuts.
And why I can't agree with you--at all. Ask yourself if Apollon would even work with that garish palette.

I'm not saying that Apollon should look like Tsuritama. I'm saying that Tsuritama looks beautiful and has tons of visual appeal while Apollon looks awful.

I'm only basing this off of MAL, so there's a fair chance it's wrong. There's not exactly a whole lot of information about this show out there in English.
I hope it really is 26 episodes though, that would be a lot of fun.
I love watching shows about things i've performed before, and in general love watching things i've experienced*. It's the Jazz to Nodame's Classical, and I like it. I wish there were more musically focused anime. Also, when I get more free time i'll analyze whatever the piece is in the OP at a piano for fun.
"Apollon looks awful", or "Should be embarrassed airing next to Tsuritama"? Those points? As for the quick mention of shading and lighting, I addressed why those worked for me.

For what it's worth - based on what I've seen, Kids on the Slope is definitely the most visually unappealing show Watanabe has been involved in, not that it looks bad per-se.

I don't get what this has to do with what I said at all, nor do I understand why you constantly blame other people for your lacking posts. Can't you take responsibility for what you say?

But, yeah. That was freaking epic. And... Melancholic?
Kyon and Haruhi discussing how they feel about the "real" world... While huge scary-ass monsters loom in the background destroying everything... And then start coming towards them.

The first post has a blanket assertion but it also has other points. The second post is only a blanket assertion because your reply had not much to do with what I said (if anything) so I didn't consider it an actual reply.

That's why gets the most reactions, plus I don't think there's anything unreasonable with what he said, if he thinks it looks awful, then he is perfectly entitled to his own opinion, not everything has to be a circle-jerk when it comes to watanabe.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part VI
Bwahahaha. Kyon has no shame.

And then, Kyon has his usual internal dialogue discussing
what Haruhi means to him...
And, then...
YES!
And dat music!

Freaking awesome.
I'm 100% satisfied. I liked literally all the characters in this, and I want more. I feel like that may be my ruin, though.
