Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Official Teaser Trailer #2

I somehow need to convince my fiance to watch 4, 5, and 6 with me. She's never seen any of the Star Wars, which is obviously a fact I didn't unearth until after the proposal. Watched the trailer about 20 times yesterday, then watched it again on the TV in glorious HD, and all she could do was stare with mouth agape at me wondering what the big deal is. I mean, the big deal is right in front of your face with the added bonus of John Williams classical score. Get out of here with whats the big deal.

I also gotta tell her about my Star Wars collection when I was between the ages of 1-14 but I don't know how she would react to the news of of entire bedroom walls filled with unopened box of collectible figurines, lightsabers, cds, videogames, and magazines.

It's not too late to call the wedding off.

To be fair, it's not like you could now ever again watch these trailers with the eyes of someone who didn't know how the prequels would turn out back in the day.

It's really telling though, of course with hindsight, that the trailer included the scenes where Jar Jar is the most obnoxious and that he is featured so heavily for a first teaser trailer. Hardly anything about that trailer seems Star Wars-y to me. There are no familiar stylistic connections to the OT except for a few characters and a lightsaber.

This trailer looks, feels, breathes Star Wars. It feels right, like a proper Star Wars movie should, like a true sequel that is connected to the movies before it.

Not Really.

Phantom Menace Teaser

This thread needs more Yaddle.

NO! It doesn't. This means someone is now going to post the Yaddle bed pic.

But of course that's what we're looking for now - closeness to the original trilogy. Clues that they won't fuck it up.

Back in 1999, Star Wars had earned itself the right to have a film come out that looked nothing like the old ones and took us into completely new territory. We weren't looking for sameness or assurances that it would be like the originals. Of course, it squandered that chance.

I am so glad the main character is Black (British) and not one of the big actors (Denzel, Will, etc). And most likely there'll be a relationship between the two main characters shown.

This may do the same thing that Star Trek did for TV back in the 70s. At least here's hoping so. I'm hoping it comes to the point where we don't need to even describe race of the actor, and it can just be anyone who fits a role.

The movie could be like that story "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge." Boba Fett manages to escape the Sarlacc then has to find a way off Tatooine while avoiding the Tusken Raiders who are hunting him. He finally reaches his hidden ship and prepares to take off, then it explodes and everything goes black.

"Boba Fett was dead; his body, with a broken neck, floated gently from side to side within the bowels of the almighty sarlacc."

:p

That honestly made me LOL

I do think the lack of Asian people in the Star Wars universe is becoming conspicuous.

There will never be a trailer that got people more hyped than that trailer. I know it's really tough to distance oneself from the final product, but at the time, before we knew, that trailer was incredible.

I dunno, I don't think I would be impressed by the teaser if I watched it at my current age. It seemed kind of annoying actually.

Now the Episode 3 teaser was absolutely incredible:

The two main leads are honestly so unusual for this big of a movie it almost feels like old Star Wars with how unknown for the most part the two are.

This is nitpicky but he's not African American, he's British. (But I totally get and agree with what you're saying)

You people are insane with this nonsense Machete Order.

You watch them in release order. Original Trilogy first and then the prequels. Anything else is just blasphemy. It's like those weirdos that suggest playing the MGS games in chronological order instead of simple release order.

yup

but really, you just watch the original trilogy and then stop

I got the feeling from this trailer that I wanted to get from the Phantom Menace trailer (and at the time convinced myself that I did). But this one is legit feels.

This is true. I remember where I was when I saw the trailer for the first time, I was beyond excited. :-(

Don't believe he is the main character. Daisy Ridley is.

This is absolutely true. Humans have such an extraordinarily difficult time looking at things in hindsight -- they can't separate what they know now from what they knew and how they felt beforehand.

This is merely anecdotal, because I don't know how I would dig up hard evidence in this regard, but the initial response to this trailer in the theaters was the most powerful movie reaction I've witnessed (to this day).

The trailer was attached to The Seige (an entirely forgettable film), and I saw it in one of those Westwood theaters that probably can hold about 1000 people. The place was packed.

When the trailer concluded, this is what happened:

At least half of the people in the theater spontaneously jumped to their feet and cheered (as if your hockey team had just scored a goal in the playoffs). I haven't seen anything like that before or since. It was absolute pandemonium. Granted, I'm sure they were diehard Star Wars fans, but the freaking rough almost lifted off of the place. It was insane.

I'm trying so hard to contain my hype. For one, I'm more of a Trek guy anyway. And I hate new Trek.

But, it can't be coincidence that I clicked on this trailer the same day I'm wearing my Boba Fett shirt from Disneyland.

I'm so fucking excited.

They are the main characters, but Daisy is possibly the Luke Skywalker of this new trilogy. Just as Anakin, Obi-Wan and Padme were the main characters of episode I-III although the main focus was on Anakin.
