I quite enjoyed MI3.

Still not sure why people dislike that movie. It's the only one in that franchise I respect (past the first 20 minutes of the first movie).

Have you seen Rogue Nation? Or come to think of it, Ghost Protocol? Hell, even MI1?

Hoffman was a pretty great villain, but he was wasted towards the end in favor of a much weaker climax, and, outside him, I honestly cannot recall anything else that stood out about the movie.

Edit: I do remember kind of liking Super 8. Forgot that was Abrams.

I never saw that one since I've never seen any MI films.

However, I thought it was universally liked? I remember it getting a really score on RT.

[edit]

Gotta say, I'm pretty surprised at how some of you aren't too keen on JJ. I remember thinking he was the perfect fit to direct Star Wars when it was announced back in 2013 or so.

Have we actually seen any genuinely original vehicles in the movie? There's Rey's speeder, I guess, and that's just a hovering refrigerator. Everything else appears to be the standard fare - TIEs, X-wings, Imperial shuttles, Star Destroyers. Unless that's what you mean by underwhelming?

I've seen the toys for the new transports, speeders, shuttles, and all and they are pretty weak and directionless. Simultaneously 30 years later X-Wings and Tie Fighters are still being used but with super slight modifications on them which seems really dull. Return of the Jedi at least added sleek new fighters.

Does anyone know if they are making Luke, Han, and Leia toys for thr new film? I'm surprised none were out in September.

Whenever I feel like this movie might suck I remember JJ Abrams is directing it.
Yes, but Kasdan is cowriting, which means it has a lot of polish to the story and characters.

Where are you coming up with this?

That's not an approximation, those are the actual IMAX vs standard frames as released by Disney. So that's actually the amount of increase in picture for the one sequence (Escape from Jakku) that is filmed in IMAX.

I didn't think much of it when I read in the news that my city cinema's IMAX projectors were upgraded to laser but turns out it's sort of a big deal for this film. I might have to watch it a third time if this turns out to be good.

the laser projectors are pretty damn stunning. The Chinese has had one for a while, and besides the black factor, colors look great, and the 3D is super precise.

Plus IMAX redoes the room's audio when they put in the laser projectors too

I am going to see it on Sunday next week, so there's a few extra days of waiting ahead of me. I want to go in blind, so I probably have to stay offline after Wednesday. Going to be a long and torturous wait, guys.

There is a chance confirmed spoilers get dropped on Sunday morning.

Not even day 1. There's gonna be a TON of people here (it might not seem that way) who probably won't get around to seeing it for a couple weeks (Christmas/New Years) and I'm fairly certain they're gonna be all kinds of relieved at knowing they can come in here and bullshit about the movie without having relevant information laid out in front of them like a body on the autopsy slab.

Which is why I was confused as to why it was "baloney" that there's a month-long grace period. I could understand it if there wasn't a spoiler thread for people to use. But there is.

Not to mention China-GAF has to wait till January 9th to be able to see it in theatres.
(I almost got myself a ticket to Hong Kong just so I could see it early)

Guys, in less than a week (EU), there will be a new Star Wars movie, and i'm hyped as f*ck.
Got my new profile picture ready just in time! (On a side note, Paint.net and Gimp suck, i need Photoshop back...)

Since i don't want to ruin my enjoyment due to being tired, i "only" got tickets for the thursday primetime showing in my local movie theater.

And i hereby promise not to spoil or write anything about the movie until it opened everywhere worldwide! (Sans Greece, i read the movie was delayed until a week later there)

There is a spoiler thread up if you want. Otherwise there is a one month embargo with spoilers in this thread (with spoiler tags of course).
I got to see it wednesday, Europe is so fine.

Don't worry, i would never post any spoilers in this thread. But there really are two spoiler threads, the one here in OT and the long-running one in OT community. ^^
Still, i won't write anything about the movie for some time, big chance that i will see the movie a second time, so i might wait until after that.

You know, despite following the movie's trailers and threads, I still don't know a whole lot about the plot. I want to avoid spoilers though. I really hope it's good.

No, but still hoping this will happen.

Watching this now it would be a real new perspective on the original trilogy if Yodas speech turned out to be true, that Lukes rushed training caused him to eventually fall to the evil path. As of now we view that speech as Luke disregarding the jedi ways and his elders in order to find the good in Vader, becoming the true jedi, but if he turns evil in this film then...well Yoda had a point.

I live in Norway. I get to see this two days before americans. It's usually the other way around. Can't quite understand that, but I can't complain

I've read somewhere that in the original Kasdan's screenplay of RotJ, Luke turned to the dark side.
But I think his situation will be more complicated than that in TFA

Yeah, it's a long shot. But I'd still like it.

IMO it's more likely that Luke saw how much damage someone strong in the force can do once they fall to the dark side and his flirting with tapping into that power and seeing what his father became made him so scared that he would end up the same, that he decided the universe would be better off with not having him around. So he just took a bunch of Jedi Holocron's to some deserted planet and has been living there as a hermit (paralleling Obi Wan's hermit life) with R2 ever since.

Wait, this is actually releasing the 16th over here when the USA has to watch until the 18th?

Fuck yeah, YUROP STRONK.

Batten down those spoiler hatches, friends. That shit is going to be everywhere.
Any comment section, any youtube video, any facebook page.

I mean, If I'm not wrong people complained about the prequel having way different technology compared to the OT.

I actually like that they still use X-Wings and TIEs. Hell, I would rather they didn't change the X-wings at all, cause I liked the OT design better.

It was only 30 years later and I guess the Rebels can't afford keep doing new ship models. Also, we'll probably see old and new different Wings/TIEs either in TFA or the next movies.

I might go offline from Sunday to Wednesday. It's gonna be insane.

Yeah, that's highly probable.

great OP

My body is ready... I've seen this month episodes 1 to 6 twice and have mi tickets for 18th at 0:05 am (I think this is the first screening here in Spain).

please be good!

To people coming into the Spoiler Thread (potentially risky) and complaining: The title is not a spoiler. It's a line from the trailer, that's all.

I think you're right. This sounds logical but you'd think he's still in a trailer if his role is something like that.

Just hope there is a lot more to the plot than can be pieced together from the footage. My only fear about this movie is that it will be too much of a retread of ANH and everything is too familiar and self-referential. I'm glad the Mcquarrie designs are back and being that it's a direct sequel to Jedi there should be some visual continuity, just hope there is enough "newness" here to make it stand apart.

Force is strong on you! I prefer to think that luke will be more like yoda than obi wan, and that you've said about jedi holocrons is a great idea, i like it!

Well, given Han's comments in the trailer that is explaining to these kids that The Force is real and not a mythical thing, I feel it's obvious that Luke never reformed a Jedi Academy or did something else to that effect. I think it's then also fair to assume that there aren't any true Jedi at all fighting on either side. Considering either Finn being a Jedi or Rey being a Jedi and being related to Luke (either directly or trough Leia) and meeting Han, the movie might hinge it's second act on finding Luke wherever he's hiding to get trained.

Again, all pure speculation.

It seens there is already a spoiler thread. How are people reacting to the spoilers? Hope they're liking. This movie needs to deliver it.
I think most in my experience from reading the spoiler threads are glad they read the spoilers based on all the silly fan theories all of the Internet (see: Luke). Being able to go in and not creating some crazy idea of my fan dream movie in my head to put the movie up against is something I am very glad about. And I have seen others say the same here.

I feared that at first when I first saw the final trailer (the new death star, the "tatooine-like" planet etc.), but from what I've seen (and whish I hadn't) it's not an ANH remake, not at all.

I won't read it anyway because even the theories I avoided lol but I'm glad people are liking it.

i have not been following this movie very much, so who is that pilot dude in the op between the random stormtrooper and the girl jedi?

edit: oh, i see he is "poe dameron". that says nothing to me.

Oddly enough one of the impressions I am waiting to hear is about how the Disney music meshes with the start of the film. That Fox Fanfare not being there is going to feel weird.
