Ok, this announcement has made me fucking mad.
As a developer, Bioware has included same-sex romances in their games for the past five years. The fact that they would fall on this issue (and thereby indirectly support ignorance and intolerance) due to a small number of right wing groups complaining about potential content would have me giving up on this title. As someone who actively boycotts certain companies and industries when I cannot endorse their practices, I would have to follow suit with a game that I have been anticipating for years, even before it's announcement (we all knew Bioware had to make this or KOTOR 3 eventually).

However, I recognize Lucasarts is most likely behind this decision and Bioware would have little freedom in the matter. While I would usually look to a company to stand it's ground, Bioware is to a point where they have put in over half a decade of work and involved over a thousand people (and a budget of $68.2 trillion), I can understand the need to fold on this issue. So while I hold no resentment against Bioware (and I assure you, I am aware they don't give two fucks about my opinion or money), I do look towards Lucasarts as a "villain" in this story.

/soapbox

Edit: I mean, if you can't have homosexuality in a game about space wizards, where can you?

It's like capture the flag with only one flag and fire hazards. Awesome.
Bioware needs to take notes on what im going to say: Do not wait 5-6 years before introducing another fucking map for this gametype.

If they make a minigames expansion this mode needs at least 2 new maps.

Geez, the trope that no one plays the fucking objective is true in MMOs too haha.

Were they letting audience members play?

edit: I should watch the whole thing next time, they get into the gametype later :p. Fun watch!

I actually cheered in my head when the smuggler flashbanged the first guy then kicked the second guy in the nuts to score, all the while with low health.

Happens around 12:18 in the video.
Smuggler confirmed for best class in the game. Again.

i know its kind of a no brainer but even supposed "gaming greats" such as Blizzard couldnt figure this out.
The only problem I can see with a ton of maps is the Huttball players being split up across them unless it just randomly picks one or picks by vote.

3-5 different arenas would be nice. To have another situation like the Battlegrounds in Wow would be a fucking shame. One ctf map from its introduction until Cataclysm? Bioware doesnt even need to have multiple in at launch. Just release a new one every 6 months or whatever. You can make them coincide with world story events or expansions too. Like in Wow if they added in a new ctf map for TBC that would have been great.. make the team Scryer or Aldor instead of Horde/Alli to change things up a bit. Just a quick example.

I keep watching that gunslinger flashbanging one dude, then ball kicking the sith. Epic.
I hope Scoundrels can use that flashbang ability. I know they get a bit of the grenades due to it being a default Smuggler ability, but I don't know if they get that specific one. I want to flashbang someone, groin kick another, and then stealth to the goal so someone can pass it to me.

They need to put them all in one place or let you queue for any of them at once. I'd love to see arena on different planets so the aesthetics would be different.

Flashbang is a core ability I believe. You get it at like level 4 or something.

The thing is, I think those empire guys could have broken that with their stun breaks, unless they were on cooldown.

edit: and ya, I would love a warzone for every planet. I dunno what you would make the tatooine one, but a sarlaac pit should be in the middle :D.

re: PC Gamer article posted earlier.
First of all, loot containers. After every boss is defeated during a normal difficulty Operation, every player will receive a loot container. Inside that container each player gets a chance for loot specific to them, or commendations that can be exchanged for other loot. So to be specific (because this seems to be confused by PC Gamer) that happens after each boss is defeated in a normal difficulty Operation, and not just once at the end of the Op. (There are multiple bosses in Operation: Eternity Vault for example.)

Second, Gabe was misquoted a bit on the lockout thing (it's a bit loud here on the show floor!). There are lockouts, but they are designed to be 'flexible'. This means, for example, if I have killed Boss 1 in an Op group and Gabe has killed Boss 2 with another Op group, then I can join Gabe's Op group and together we can defeat Boss 3 - but Gabe can't go back to Boss 1, until the lockout expires.

As Gabe has said there are going to be difficulty modes. We've spoken about 'normal' and 'hard' modes so far, which will be available for both 8 and 16 player Op groups.

We'll talk more about difficulty modes and how they work later, but suffice to say, Gabe and his team are focused on making sure endgame content is both accessible and challenging.

The loot container idea is a fantastic idea. Also it's been mentioned that the loot is doubled in 16 mans but shares the same loot tables in the 8 vs 16 runs.

lmfao! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulgK87D3zI0&hd=1

Gabe's (the PVP & Ops lead design) reactions are funny as hell. Like teaching kindergarten.

And the gunslinger needs to stop kiting, and use her cover tools to use. cover pulse if they get close (aoe knockback) & let loose the damage. if it's not enough, use stuns to retreat back into superior range, then do it all over again. Thats my take on how the class is supposed to be used in PVP anyway. They look like the best defenders of an objective if used right.

Guarantee I'm going to screw up this post? Yeah.

Reminds me of UT's Deathball. Can't wait.

Yeah, a little bit. imaging having to jump through a damn hoop to score a point though. lol

I loved that game type, it never caught on though. =(

I got my beta invite today, and it just so happens that my internet decides for today to be the day to break. Massive area wide outage. Cool.

I was all aboard the SWToR hype train, but then I see all this new GW2 footage from Gamescon...

I think I may be switching sides, ToRGAF. SWAY ME BACK.

I will be playing both so be comforted by the fact you may always be in my luminous presence. GW2 isn't even coming out until next year anyway. Play TOR this year and then add GW2 into the mix later.

I don't have enough time to devote to even one. But since gw2 is non sub im not worried.
I go all out in my MMOs. Raid, ranked PVP, the works. Two full-fledged MMOs at the same time would drive me insane.

Fantastic video made me really want to play. I was thinking the smuggler wouldn't make it with so low health but he was awesome. Really like that the different classes all did well. Commando was a beast.

Yes, they were. And I think Gabe was the one of very few if not the only dev present. Not counting community manager and PR guys.

Makes me somewhat mad they set us up with CM/PR people in the backroom, while having him comment on the action on the main stage where a high percentage of the audience probably won't understand the terms anyway.

OK, this is easy. GW2 has complete skillchains bound to a single actionbar slot and autocast for your actionbar. If you still want to play GW2 now, you can always set everything on autocast and play SWTOR, while your character does everything for you. There you go. You can thank me later!

It's no big secret that George Lucas is very, very, veeeeeerrrrrry protective of how sexuality is portrayed in his Empire. From killing the lesbian Jedi in KOTOR, to making the Gay Hutt as stereotypical as possible, it's very clear that Lucas does not want his Empire to... deviate.

That was intentional hyperbole, because he asked us to sway him back. Though, to be perfectly honest, that is pretty much how you could have played the gamescom demo. That does not mean it's how PvP will work, of course.
