If you want a code, just pre-order on Amazon and then cancel your pre-order. Not that hard.
And it has been repeatedly told that those codes will be invalidated.

As for the faction callsigns: Republicans and Imperials.
What else can you call Republic players for short? Reps? Not good. Rebs would indicated Rebels. So..?

Again reminding of NeoGAF Empire.
Fonds, can you ask any of your guild mates is having second thoughts about playing as Republican, and redirect them to my guild. I'd at least get my guild up and running and hopefully on same server as "NeoGAF".
Still have one member applicant who hasn't PMed me here or at swtor.com whether he is a GAFer or not... Annoying.

So when do we expect the guilds will be choosen for testing?
They already have been inviting guilds for beta testing. However, part of that is an NDA prohibiting the guilds from talking about their participation. It doesn't prevent individuals from saying they're participating (and nothing more really), but people cannot say "yeah my whole guild got invited".

And there's no way GAF will be able to stick with that. Someone will end up posting "GAF got an invite!" and everyone will be kicked.

Really? I had to cancel my order and replace my order on Amazon because my original order wouldn't let me use my amazon credits.

But I have already registered my code from the original order, and I do have a new code but I don't have a way of updating it at the SWTOR website. How can you tell if your pre-order code has been invalidated?

AFAIK they will be invalidated, besides it is a logical thing to do, otherwise people get to play the game for free for a few days.
This had been discussed many times already, i think you need to contact the customer support and ask about it, unless someone with more (accurate) knowledge knows better?

So, drunks and devils essentially?
Drunks and Devils.. sounds a bit like "Dungeons and Dragons" and "Darths and Droids".

Not bad abbreviations, though i prefer Republicans and Imperials still.

Not sure as to how Amazon can deactivate the code if BW are saying once you put a code in you are set, even if you cancel the preorder.

My question to BW was in regards to canceling a origin digital delux preorder as I wanted to upgrade to the amazon CE with release day shiping.

This was their response.

Spent all day playing beta. Is it Dec 20 yet? I can't believe it's been like 5 months already. Only a month and a half left to go.

Why won't Bioware just drop the NDA already? They're leaking like sieve.

At least you can still play the beta =(

Got the banhammer for some stupid shit.

Ouch. You know, I was just thinking - Bioware only has time left for five Beta Weekends, and they've only had two. A 6th Beta Weekend would fall inside the Early Access window.

Five days for early access? Not bad. I'm going to assume (and hope) since I entered my code on the very first day that I'm going to get the full five days. I wonder when individuals will start finding out when their early access starts.

How do they call emotes racial abilities? It's just an emote. Racials would be nice in this game, I really like how WoW did theirs.

Rift is a very good MMO, I enjoyed it immensely. To me though it's not going to hold a candle to TOR at launch, personally I enjoyed the story and lore of TOR in my beta playthrough much more than Rift's.

This more then anything is what will the ultimate decider for SW:TOR's success I feel and would be the primary reason I'd pick up the game if I was willing to pay the monthly (which I'm not anymore). Gameplay wise it's nothing really to write home about and the focus on soloing because of the story focus limits I believe the reasons for people to stick around as a social game. Then again maybe I didn't get far enough. Unlike Star Wars Galaxies it can't even play off movie nostalgia by allowing players to interact and play in locations from the movies. That leaves the story as the strongest element of the game.

From the little I did play of TOR from my experiences with Star Wars Galaxies I'd much rather play SWG as a Star Wars mmorpg just how it was originally designed. A shame it's being closed down. SOE made a lot of mistakes with that game but I'd much rather see another game how it was before they introduced the Combat Upgrade and certainly before that New Game Enhancements BS. TOR certainly isn't it. I do look forward to seeing if some players record their game time, at least the story missions. I would like to see how the story for some of the classes progress.

After dealing with "Undead OP" for years in WoW, I am actually glad they are not going down that road in TOR. I would prefer them to be fluff, rather than a pain in the ass mechanic to deal with for both the dev and the players who might feel inclined to play a certain race (i.e. undead) just because of how much stronger the racial is comparatively, or just because it's what is trending at the time for whatever variable reason.

I would not expect to get a good sale price on a Collector's Edition if you've already opened it and burned the code. Don't waste time sitting on it for years -- just sell the statue for $20-30 and get some money back.

Very few of these Collector's Editions actually gain in value, and any value that they have is only tied to the exclusive in-game items that come with them. Just the statue and art book is not going to net you $150++ on eBay.

I sold a sealed copy of WoW: The Burning Crusade for about $100 on eBay over the summer, which was only like $20 or $30 more than I paid for it.

If you sit on it and leave it sealed it might grow in value by quite a bit. Look at the original WoW CE, that thing goes for 1500 to 3000 dollars right now.

And Woorloog; I'll ask around on our private forums if people wanna join the Empire guild.

Great, thanks, would be nice to get the guild up and running, so to speak.

Anyone have any impressions they feel they could share of the latest build? Buzz on MMO boards I read seem to be of the variety of "I can't believe this thing is only weeks away, what the hell are they doing," which I would ignore if not for them coming from people who have been in beta quite a while and have been staying positive. Not easy to find out what they're talking about with the NDA. Some are mentioning they've been enjoying the wrap-up events going on in SWG more as of late, whatever those may be.

Not trying to turn into That Guy, you know, the one who derails hype trains, I'm just trying to figure out what's going on, and the Origin news is already pretty close to bumming me out.

What Origin news?

And people are entitled to their opinion. Especially the long time beta people. I figure they're still pissed about the lack of UI customization that they've been asking for months for. That is always the main complaint afaik.

Except that the WoW Collector's Edition actually saw a pretty limited press run, and they didn't make any more of them. Every subsequent WoW CE has mostly failed to appreciate in value. WoW's original CE's value has gone up because the game has been wildly popular and is STILL widely played -- will TOR be as popular in 2-5 years?

TOR has literally millions of pre-orders.....I don't think its CE is going to really be that limited. I don't think it's worth having $150 tied up for years just to find out, but people can gamble if they like :)

Don't know how the latest build is (to big of a download to sit through again) but from past MMORPGs experiences, in several games, when you read comments like that do not dismiss them. More often then not they are usually right on the money in regards to MMOs especially if it's very close to launch. It's always better to prepare the worse unless the beta is extremely rock solid which is insanely rare. The "It's still beta" is not to believed. The game will more then likely launch in a similar state. Even if there is a huge day one patch it will not fix all issues and more then likely will introduce several new ones not seen in a beta.

yea, Amazon specifically says they'll cancel your code + you can't order the CE there anymore.

Just as I've repeatedly told people that cancelling your pre-order does not revoke your access. I cancelled months ago and I'm still approved for Early Access.

That's just some nonsense that Amazon throws up there to prevent abuse, but once a code is spent it's spent -- they're not wasting time and effort persistently tracking everybody's pre-order status.

At any rate, I'm not sure what the use in getting a code now is, since they said they are staggering the access based on when you pre-ordered. Submitting a code now probably means you'll get 1-2 days of early access at best.

Most impressions of the new build has been positive. They brought back the old item modification system and improved on it apparently and that is one of SWTORs very best strong points.

The game doesn't require origin either. Your SWTOR account is linked to your EA account, but you don't actually use Origin to run the game.

Current build that just rolled out is quite solid, they have polished it up quite nicely. Really don't see any glaring problems with the game especially if they keep up with final polish going into release now.

Surprising that it isn't using Origin.

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty much always a cautiously optimistic type, but yeah I actually get more nervous when people start posting "it's still beta".

Apparently I need some reading comprehension regarding the Origin thing. I've had an EA account for years, so I'm already used to living under the wing of the beast. As long as I don't have to have Origin on my machine.

As with any MMO launch, I'm sure there will be issues and stuff still left kinda hanging at launch. There hasn't been a MMO launch that has gone 100%, the best launch recently was with RIFT and even then that game still had a bunch of issues that needed tweaking and fixing like the awful PVP.

But in it's current state I would say the game seems more solid than many other MMOs have when they launched in the recent years. But of course when you get tons of players jamming the servers a launch, new problems will likely creep up and this game's launch should be huge.

I preordered this a while ago through Origin, I hope I get in beta soon (or at least early access from the start of it)

I do hope they keep the community part of the mmo up to the task. I know swtor.com is performing not to bad as it is now, but does anyone remember the state they launched that social network site in when Dragon Age came out?

That thing was very bugged and they still released and kept it broken for weeks/months even, they didn't care, just patching and preparing DLC for the game mattered.

With a MMO however, you simply cannot ignore the community needs next to a working, fun game.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?

I think it is just a pre-emptive measure being implemented and not a reaction caused by any sort of breach.
Someone on Reddit had their account's password changed a few days ago, so I thought it might have been a breach. Probably just an isolated case now that I think about it, or else this would me mandatory.

I wonder if some people got phished recently, and that why they're doing this.

At the very least, all the passwords saved on their server better have salts & be hashed. common sense.

Maybe, although the specific cutoff is odd and expiring passwordsi are of questionable security benefit in the first place. I already had a strong password, which I can actually remember and being forced to change it to something I will have to store at least temporarily will have a negative security impact.

I'm alive everyone.

Dear lord did I have a lot to catch up on. Wow, wow, and wow this game is going places.

Will my 2500 i5 and GTX560 Ti be enough to run this game well @ 1680x1050? I'm probably going to take another vacation from my XBOX when this comes out lol.

Yep,it`s just what it says,it`s going to be for extra security and hopefully it really merges the 3 EA account together well...for now,my SWtOR account is ok but it messed up my Origin ID and master ID...I change one it messes up the other and round and round.

Random thought on the mod system.

Right now you can take out mods from gear, and they're not bound to you. You can resell old mods. This could slow down the economy a bit, so i was thinking to fix that, they let you take the mods out of gear, but just change it slightly so once you slot a mod into a weapon or armor, it's bound to you. That way you can trade it around to your companions gear, save you some credits, while not flooding the marketplace later with thousands of used mods.
