Hang out with Steve.
Not to mention the fact that when Luke puts on the helmet with the blast shield down & resumes his practice, the saber is blue. It's only green when the scene first starts.

It's a mistake. Oh well, 3 movies were retouched and Lucas had other priorities (namely Episode III) so I seriously doubt he pored over each & frame of each movie.

Well it doesn't even have to be Lucas that overlooked it. I mean, you'd think the person that was retouching the Lightsaber effects would have at least a little knowledge of Star Wars, yes? Who doesn't know that Luke's first lightsaber was blue? You'd have to be a complete Star Wars noob to not know that.

The touch-up guy had to be on crack, there's simply no other explanation.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
did they actually touch them up? Other than adding the yellow clash effect? That was the only difference I noticed... I'll have to compare with the LD versions.

Edit:

Mana,

You're right, sorry, so what was actually updated about the saber effects?

The clash has always been there.

I know for some scenes they added more color to the sabers to keep them from looking almost white from fading. They did this a lot for the Vader/Obi-Wan scene in ANH, and apparently they attempted to do this for the Remote scene but of course that turned out wrong.

I watched some of the extras and for some odd reason I remember Obi-Wan dying by being cut in half...or at least the scene looked familiar to me, was that changed at some point to him just disappearing?

Yah that's true, he would probable say something about the color being a reflection of the users ability with the force. Like belts in martial arts. Luke is just white with a green stripe in in Episode 4. He moves up as the movie progresses.
Even that explanation wouldn't work because when Anakin uses two sabers in Attack of the Clones, they are both differently colored. If the color somehow magically changed due to the user's personality or force-ability, then presumably picking up two sabers would result in having them both be the same color.

Kind of funny that they have managed to introduce new mistakes with the correction of the old ones ;)

Come to think of it, where does Luke's lightsaber in ESB come from? I don't think he had a chance to retrieve it from Obi-Wan's remains..

I originally thought that as well, but it suddenly hit me when I was thinking about that, that Obi-Wan has his own lightsaber. :p

Oh shit, yeah....I forgot that Luke gets his father's lightsaber early-on in the movie. For some reason I thought that he was still using Obi-Wan's in Empire Strikes Back.

Yeah, he has his own. Anakin's old one. Then he makes his second one, right?

Luke makes his own lightsaber between the events of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Watched all three this weekend. I'm don't really mind most of the changes, but one thing really bothers me...did Lucas change the ending of ROTJ in the SEs too, or just the DVDs? That new music sucks ass. I want the old Ewok music back!!!

Also, you think they could've fixed some of the "boxes" around the space craft in ANH. Some of those look really bad.

This was changed in the SE, and I'm glad to see a few more people support the original song. I feel so lonely in my love for it.

The TIE matte box can easily get fixed if you run the optimizer and tone down some of your display settings. Most people won't dare to do that though after calibrating it for other things. Though, I'm glad I did, I only see one matte box and I have to really be looking for it to see it.

I don't feel like searching the thread, but does anyone else think it's ridiculous that they change the sound Obi-wan makes when he scares the Tuskens away?

You mean people like the new music? Ugh. Like I already said, most of the changes don't bother me, but the music completely changes the mood of the ending. The original song was so much more...happy. Now the Ewoks banging on the stormtroopers helmets doesn't really match up. Horrible. The SE/DVD song sounds a lot like the ending song in TPM and maybe that was George's intention, but still. :|

Thanks for the advice on the calibration, I'll have to try that.

Deg: Yeah, it does sound a little weird, just doesn't something like something a human can reproduce. It doesn't get to me at all though.

I agree, and the ending to the Ewok song was far more emotional with the crescendo and all. It just seemed to have a much bigger bang before the start of the credits. A much better finish. While I don't dislike the new song, it just isn't as nice to feel at the end, definitely not as joyful. Then again, the Empire technically isn't said and done, so perhaps Lucas wanted something that was more calm rather than something peppy. But meh, for the final act, I don't like that thinking. If he's going to do more films, maybe it'll flow better.

i guess that most of the SW DVD topics have been touched on, but surprisingly two havent been mentioned, the potato in Empire and the titty-squeeze in jedi.

i cant remember what the timecode for the potato is, but its in the astroid scene.
the tit squeeze is outside the Death Star Shield Generator, when leia gets shot and han rushes over to help, watch what harrison does.
the ability to freeze frame and slow shows it all in its glory.

surely lucas should have seen it?
