My new PC has finally been build. It's almost complete, only need a Windows OS booting from a CD/DVD or USB, couldn't boot it from the SSD it's on due to security reasons on the mobo.

But yeah, it works, it's super silent and all the fans are going strong.

More nep already? ... Bring it.

I would kick WB off before I kicked IFI off. Even then the only game I like from Atlus is P4U, one they didn't even make.

Man I love Trails in the Sky SC and all, but the Ramblin' Gambler achievement sucks. Luck based achievements aren't fun.
The only thing I'm missing for the achievement is getting 4 of a kind in poker at the casino. And I've probably played at least 5 hours of poker throughout the game. I have 300k medals and the most expensive thing to trade them for is 5k.
Thankfully playing poker is addicting in this game, because a 1 in 4165 chance to get something you need for an achievement is ridiculous.

I still hate hearing the word MOBA. It's DOTA and DOTA Clones. That was some nice rebranding on Riot to get people to stop calling them a DOTA clone.

Does anybody remember battles for Graxia? Now that was a mober. I kinda really liked how the game had an MMO kinda Hubworld for in between the games. Too bad the Mobering wasn't as fun as in the others tho.

I also played dawngate a bit, but that was literally just a league ripoff with slightly altered gamemodes.

Super monday night combat was a really unique idea of it being an action Mober. Kinda unfortunate that it's dead, but I guess strife picked that up.
and battleborn heh

I also tried playing dead island epidemic a bit, but I don't really have to say anything about that but a big fat LOL. Stop trying to make dead island happen deep silver. It's not going to happen.

I really liked league when I played it, but the Login queues that were hours long and having to unlock all new heroes by grind made sure that I jumped at doto the moment i got a beta invite.

I overall ended up enjoying dotes more than league due to the higher complexity of mechanics like denying.

Doto also got one very important thing over league. A MOTHERFUCKING BASTION ANNOUNCER.

Overall im happy to not be playing these games anymore tho, while they can be really thrilling and fun, being locked into a 40 minute match with people who just blame and flame all game is immensely frustrating.

But you know kidz, it's okay to like all of these games. Even the abysmally shitty spawns of hell like guardians of middle earth!

That's something i regularly hear people doing on gaf tho. Kinda sad really.
I always preferred 'AoS' to 'MOBA,' but if we can transition to Mober I think I'll be OK.

Now for a history lesson: Aeon of Strife was the original inspiration for Defense of the Ancients (better known as DotA), way back in Starcraft: Brood War. It was a custom map based on some Starcraft Protoss lore thing, with gameplay vaguely inspired by Dynasty Warriors IIRC. There were a few sequels; don't remember whether the authors were the same. AoS 2 was the most fun being competitive, but AoS (original) was uniquely difficult (and entirely vs. AI). Like many of Starcraft's user-made genres, games like it were de facto called an AoS.

Then came Defense of the Ancients on Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos (vanilla). It was a basic yet fun game, but the map editor didn't really allow for much beyond that so it became one of the most predominant maps played. Its one contemporary was Tides of Blood which was, as I recall, more popular at one point early on. DotA is vaguely based on a conflict from Warcraft lore (hence "the Ancients vs. "the Scourge."). When WC3's The Frozen Throne expansion launched and expanded the map editor, DotA: All Stars was born (because TFT maps don't run on vanilla RoC) to take advantage of the extra moddability. It completely took over the custom map scene and inspired legions of clones, and all but killed other kinds of custom maps (Starcraft 1 has a huge amount of incredibly clever custom maps, in spite of being waaay more restricted in the map editor). Bounds, Crash, LotRish games, DBZ (yes, both are a genre), madness, phantoms, etc, etc, etc, all but died off during the WC3 era, with but a scant few microMMOs being released every so often and little else.

Some time after it first premired, companies began to note the wild success of DotA. It was a huge reason to own WC3, and a game in its own right, after all. Eventually they began to release games inspired by DotA--I think the earliest was Demigod (which had some issues) and with "LoL" in beta shortly thereafter (everyone loved that acronym!). Then there was the uninspired Heroes of Newerth (HoN) which changed little from DotA. Coincidentally, League went free-to-play first and ended up exploding in popularity, no doubt partly in thanks to the cache from a DotA developer's (or two? Can't remember) involvement and partly in thanks to the more approachable and comprehensible gameplay. Perhaps interestingly, HoN was, at the time, seen as the legitimate competition to LoL, rather than DotA: All-Stars.

And then Valve ripped off Defense of the Ancients to make their wholly original 'Dota 2' (there is, legally, no relation. Hence the lowercase 'a.'). Suddenly the modder charm of the original was gone; no more Leoric the Skeleton King (Diablo); Lina Inverse (Slayers); and several elements taken from other sources, most notably Diablo 2 uniques as in-game items. But Ice Frog is working there so it's totally OK; and Valve is Lawful Good, so it is further OK. (*Ahem* I think I have some feelings here.)

This is also when major companies started realising the potential of the genre and flooded the market with MOBAs, from the weird, to the unexpected, to the completely insane.

And that's the story behind the birth of a gaming zeitgeist known as "Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas" which is really the worst acronym they could've gone with. (No one knew what ot call the "DotA genre" for a long time and there was some debate before it finally kinda fell on MOBA by default.)

I might be a masochist.
I was going to say that since Starbreeze was dissolved we wouldn't be seeing it in Steam anytime soon, but I actually just found out that Starbreeze still exists? Weird. Anyway, I wonder why they still haven't bother porting the first title, seems like a quick buck.

I always found the tone of the two games to be oddly dissonant, the sequel was more tongue in cheek and it felt more like something taken straight from a comic (I know it's based on a series of the same name), while the former title has more of a hard boiled atmosphere. I only got to beat the sequel, but The Darkness is definitely the most remarkable title.

Starbreeze is solvent thanks to Payday: the Heist, and now they're making hardware--as in, their own VR helmet. Haven't really heard anything about it since the Vive and Oculus launched, but I'm guessing it's still in development.

Literally no one expected this from them.

I just wish we were living in an alternative universe, where Idea Factory didn't support Steam, whereas Atlus did.

No thanks.

For years I've tried to get into Atlus RPGs, but they've never clicked with me.

The last game of theirs I put a significant amount of time was Devil Summoner Raidou 2. I think I ended up hating it after awhile.

I'd play the hell out of Etrian Odyssey regardless of the platform it was on. Himukai's art + Koshrio's music + top notch DRPG gameplay = amazing game.

I do believe Durante has praised them for being good?

Durante liked Risen 3. I'm revoking his Good Taste card.

Like, never have I played an open world RPG more replete with mediocrity. Even Dragon Age: Inquisition had more going for it.
Yeah, I've put it in to a local PC repair shop for now, I'm very inexperienced tech wise in these matters (I just want to play games!), and give it a sort of check up I guess and see what they think of it

Just another heads up for ya, this thread is the kind of worst-case-scenario for bad PSUs. It can be very unexpected or happen with little warning from everything I've heard (never actually had a PSU die on me... yet).

And now I've jinxed myself.

FYI, a few things. There are 3 core people with the credit towards DOTA.

1. EUL(Valve) - DOTA was created by this man and updated till FT.
2. Gusinoo(Riot) - Took over control after someone else combined them to create All Stars and got it to it's first "professional" level. Left back in 2005.
3. Icefrog(Valve) - Been the curator since 2005.

So the original creator and the fanbase curator since 2005 are at Valve. The only ones who are not would be Gusinoo and Meian. If anyone has a claim to "DOTA", it would be Valve.

HoN existed, because of the lack of community features in DOTA. Once DOTA 2 was announced, it died off. LoL continued to grow due to the accessibility, birth of F2P, and how it really is a different game than DOTA.

Bit more, the original issue came up when Valve announced DOTA. This was back when it was just announced with Blizzard and Valve. The term MOBA, was heavily pushed by Riot back in 2009, prior the genre was simply "DOTA". Ala, Doom to FPS. Unlike DOOM though, MOBA does not particularly make any sense since it fits a vast variety of games. Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Which funny enough, can fit about any game that happens in an arena. Riot heavily pushed the term because them associating anyway with "DOTA" meant advertising the competition. The rest of it has been sort of a rewrite of history since.

My PSU died just about a month ago, shortly after everything connected to the motherboard became electrified, including USB plugs. That was fun. But luckily it did not take anything with it when it died, and I just had to pop in a new PSU to get everything working again.

I like Falcom games as much as anybody, with exception maybe of se7en, but their missables and cheevos are too much even for me, and I'm very much 100% person.

That's the thing - they did nothing for me.
(Bought Nep1-3 and Fairy Fencer, still have not played any of them)
Atlus games (well, some of them, SMT3, DDS1-2, EO) make me all tingly inside.

so maybe... you know, try to play Neps and judge later?
IF games aren't bad, inspite of what some people say in the steam threads

hey now, don't be mean, we can have both if Atlus was willing, what IF ever did to you?

I think I'm old enough to be able to just bitch about how things were better at my time, and how you whippersnappers can't really appreciate a proper jRPG.

I'm just glad that most of the achievements don't require you to have everything in your inventory at the same time or filled out in case of the recipe book, but just require you to have it once/read it/cook it.
Because I've realized earlier that I missed a single recipe. I'm jut glad I have essentially a save file for every part of the story which makes going back to get the occassional overlooked thing register for an achievement not that cumbersome.

And yeah, IFI games are pretty fun (played the first Neptunia and Fairy Fencer)

I'm interested in No Man's Sky...just not at $60

Yep, I'd take the risk, but not at that price

Basically. I'd've probably gone for it if it was around $40, but $60 is too steep given the unknowns surrounding it.

Mankind Divided for $45 seemed like a safer bet, so I did that instead. I would've done both if No Man's Sky impressed me more, or if it was cheaper. The Sony marketing deal they've got where any PC talk has been muzzled is pretty offputting. Either the PC version is significantly better than PS4 (most likely) or the PC version has serious problems. I don't want to gamble and have it end up being the latter.

Four mages, a priest and a psionic? Are mages broken good in that game or something? In D&D, mages are only good if you have fighters who can ensure the mage doesn't get hit.
