Do you think it would be difficult to type up a paper with the Steam controller, Krej?

Absolutely, just given the fact that your hands will be in the air is enough to stop you from considering it. Plus picking it up and putting it down when you can just take your hands off a normal keyboard.

So if I preorder now I'll get the controller on October 16th? Because that's the date I keep seeing here, yet the Steam page says November 11th.

I'm located in Germany for what it's worth.

Only the people who pre-ordered it early get in October. Sorry.

As the controller battery dies, the signal strength gets lower. Here is a new message I just saw:

My steam controller was basically something they had laying around the office that they threw together, so I don't have the dongle extender included. Interesting, though.

Seems like that bit is likely to avoid any issues with wireless hardware on the computer interfering with the wireless of the dongle -- it likely uses 2.4GHz, and thus the wifi on the PC could interfere.

Guess that's just a little m-f USB extension cable.

It definitely is, and I can just use a normal USB extension cable. But the one in their pic has a nice little dock that stands the dongle straight up.

Minor annoyance - when the steam controller battery is low, you get a message in the lower corner of steam saying "the controller is having trouble maintaining a clear signal, press steam button for help."

but the message never goes away. And it hovers over the friends tab. So until you either replace the batteries or remove the dongle, the message prevents normal navigation in BPM with the mouse.

This is very thoughtful. I already have 2 dongles on my PC and they were interfering like crazy with each other. Was forced to connect one to the front and the other to the back.

I hope I get mine and the Link in October. I pre-ordered both the very same day they sent out the e-mails about pre-ordering.

I'm sorta tired of having my XB360 USB adapter just sitting there. It's small and doesn't take up a lot of space, but I kinda want an upgrade. I have an XBO controller and a DS4, but I need an upgrade. I was using two USB slots for the adapter and the plug and play kit for a while.

The impressions sound great and I'm hoping Fallout 4 feels good with it. I wonder if there has been any impressions with Fallout 3 or BioShock? Does Half-Life work well with the controller too?

Gonna preorder this next check I get.

I play too many controller-based games on Steam not to do it
and I'm one of those weird goobers that doesn't have Rocket League yet >_>

it sounds like valve is contacting testers to try and get them to populate controller template listings for a bunch of games before launch. Which would really benefit most players.

I myself try to go for layouts that resemble the typical Xbox 360 controller layout, albeit with mouse support. I wish Valve would offer the ability to export and import controller layouts manually - off their server. I say this because, currently, there is no way to store two different controller layouts (that I've found) and, more importantly, there isn't a way to share controller layouts with non-steam games. So, to give an example, I actually went out and bought the steam version of System Shock 2, despite already owning and playing it with my steam controller, just so I could share the config. It'd be nice to be able to set up a repository website for non-steam game controller listings.

This would also open the door up for more exotic listings. People always ask about button prompts not matching the controller buttons (i.e. if you map the "b" button to the ctrl key, when the game pops up a notification to hit that key, it'll say "press ctrl" instead of press "b"), and there is indeed a way around this - you can change the in-game binding so that actions are mapped to keys that match the labels of the controller button (i.e. if you map crouch to the "b" key, then map the "b" key to the "b" button on the gamepad, when the game would prompt you to press that button, it would display "b"). If they would allow people to import or export controller configurations, this could open up a whole other type of website where people could share custom steam controller bindings and game-specific ini configurations to make everything seamless, like a mod. So, to give an example, I envision a site where I can upload my System Shock 2 ini files for people to download, which would have a corresponding steam controller configuration, so that when it asks to you "press b" you know to press the "b button" on the controller.

that might be beyond their scope, however.

Just got the shipped email for mine. Quite excited! :D

Shipping from the Netherlands to the UK, so it should get here quite early.

Meanwhile GAME UK have been silent throughout and don't even have confirmation that I will receive it on Oct 16th. For all I know they may even charge me for multiple of them when I only bought one - or so the legends go

They've got 14 days to ship it yet, I'm sure (I'm hoping) it will be fine!

Yeah. I imagine they would get it before hand and dispatch it in their own time from within the UK. Although it might turn out that buying through Steam may get it to you a little bit earlier if the postal folk are on the speedy side

Damm, sorry to hear that. I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

I think it's more that GAME haven't been great recently, and have been pretty poor in general. Even the info for the order is poorly communicated. I'm sure it will be fine, but I feel like I should have avoided purchasing through GAME, but really didn't have much choice since Valve have been selective over the stores that stock them and Steam had the extra delivery / shipping costs.

Good news - Valve is working with Konami about the gamepad/mouse wonk in MGSV and there might be a patch in the future from konami to fix the issue. They are working and talking with developers about the need to allow gamepads and mice to work concurrently.

That really is fantastic news. Hope they can make sure this is the case for any games that have such issues, as it would make the controller reach its full potential

Scon + Link shipped today (ordered from UK), ordered together but looks like it's being shipped in separate packages. Pleased to see it's being sent from EU (Netherlands) though, no dirty custom fees... right?

That sounds good. Was a little concerned as to where they would send it from.

when everybody gets their controllers in on the 16th, we should all get together and try some previously inaccessible kb&m games online. Anybody down for a game of Quake 3 when the steam controllers arrive? We can invite other kb&m users too to gauge the handicap (if any).

I wish I could. Only Gabe knows when they will start selling this controller in my country :(

So do we have a good short hand for the Steam Controller yet? Steam pad? Steamroller I've seen tossed around a bit. Scon is a new one though.

FWIW I still haven't received my shipping notifications, and I ordered within minutes of the preorder going live. I just haven't cared very much because I already have one in hand lol. I live in the US, most everyone I see saying they have been given shipping notices are from the UK. Anyone from the US receive one?

I placed two orders and only got shipping confirmation from the second order I placed. The first, from the day preorders went live, still says 'shipping soon'.
