Age of Wonders III + Expansions or Endless Legend + Expansion? Never played a game like this before, but I want to get one of them. It's so hard to choose =/

Endless Legend feels like the subversive 4X game. I think it is really cool and does lots of very unique things.

Age of Wonders is also great.

Flip a coin, you can't go wrong either way.

Cool Facts: Game of War has been a hit since July 2013
Skullgirls is a good bet. It has a great tutorial that'll teach you fighting game basics, and although I haven't tried its story mode, I imagine it can't be worse than, say, SFIV's 20 second long anime cutscenes.

Skullgirls runs pretty well on my mid range laptop. It's got chain combos so you can string together some pretty cool looking moves from the start. It's also got a robust tutorial which is good for new players, and the smaller roater also makes it less intimidating. The single player is pretty standard fighting game single player though (injustice has a great single player if thats important to you, but I dont think the pc port is that great). I think Skullgirls is a good choice.
Thanks, I'll get that.

I've also had fun with MK9 before, I might get both.

If I only get one of the two modern Fallouts, New Vegas is generally considered better? And I wouldn't necessarily be missing out on story by skipping Fallout 3?

That's a can of worms you just opened.

New Vegas was made by the people who made the earlier Fallout games and takes place in/builds on the same setting, which is basically the American Southwest. Fans of the series say this one's better. The games take place long enough apart that you won't feel lost playing one without the others, but close enough together that there are continuity nods.

Fallout 3 was made by the people who made Skyrim and takes place in/around the ruins of Washington DC; it doesn't touch upon the earlier games or New Vegas, but might have some overlap with Fallout 4.

There are threads and threads of arguments either way -- "the desert is boring" vs "what do they eat?"-- but New Vegas doesn't make you use VATS so, y'know, it's generally considered the better game.

Is the Civ 5 community still strong? I'm thinking about picking up the Brave New World expansion finally.

46,820 playing now and, unless I'm mistaken, it's been in the top 10 played games every day since it launched. I think yeah, it's got a strong community.

Generally, although 3 does have its fans. New Vegas has a much stronger plot and writing if that's important to you. They don't have any overlap or connection story-wise, just a few mild references here and there so you won't be missing anything important.

Is Far Cry 3 as good looking as Far Cry 4? Seems that the beach setting is more beautiful, and the price looks good.

Also, is it good or just the good ol' Ubisoft collecting game?

It's one of the most consistently popular games on Steam.

I haven't played Endless Legend, but AoW3 is fantastic. One of the best fantasy 4x ever.

Get it. It's a fantastic expansion and the community is very strong.

I can't comment on AoW3, but I bought Endless Legend* during the sale. EL is a good game, but it lacks a campaign and the combat is forgettable. It's very charming though and I've played through several sessions already.

*The expansion seems to have gotten bad reviews, so to save some money I skipped it.

My haul today was:

Dark Souls 2
Ori and the Blind Forest
Hotline 2
Tomb Raider DLC collection
Call of Juarez Gunslinger
Call of Juarez 2 Bound in Blood
Counter Strike Global Offensive

Total $ spent on steam sales this sale was $272, just short of my $300 limit I set. Now, the wait for the 980 Ti Classified begins....

Parts of Far Cry 3 are good, like collecting stuff and taking over outposts. Some parts are not so good, like every mission. Some parts fluctuate between nonsensical and just plain stupid, like all of the writing.

I second this.

Explore and take over stuff. Ignore the story as best you can.

It gives an impression of being a good game, but it's really not. Once the novelty of the nice scenery wears off, it's actually quite bad.

I know Talos is being updated for Oculus. Any idea whether it'll be a free upgrade or a new purchase? I guess it can't hurt to wait.

Disappointed that Cities: Skyline and Kerbal Space Program didn't get bigger discounts; I'm interested, but see myself only messing around with them every once in a while. But then again they both came out this year, so I'm probably expecting too much.

Is Elite: Dangerous still considered to be very light on extended game content, or is it worth picking up now?

Skylines is worth it because of community support with mods.

Elite is still feature light.

Man. Dungeonmans... trying to resist.

I have Heroes of a Broken Land and some other stuff in my cart, but am already over my limit.

can you sell me on Dungeonmans in one sentence? (note -- i've played tons of nethack, tome, stone soup, etc).

Streamlined, clean focus on engaging tactical combat, amazing music, great variety of skills with very little filler, funny without being goofy, challenging and not excessively lengthy, replayable.

I thought New Vegas was overall a better game. The shooting mechanics are a bit better and it generally plays more fluidly and more like a naturally responsive shooter than Fallout 3.
Story-wise I'm not an old-school Fallout player so I can't see for sure whether I agree but the consensus seems to be that New Vegas is truer to the older games. Personally I thought both were about equally good.

I'd reccomend going for New Vegas. I haven't finished it yet and have all the DLC still to play but from what I played I enjoyed more than Fallout 3 and all its DLC.

Ryse Son of Rome. Pretty good graphics after hacking in the max texture setting.

Thinking about picking up the Metro Redux Bundle and Endless Legend as the last buys for this steam sale. What do you guys think?

The Metro bundle is one of the best deals I've ever seen. A case of remasters done right, and priced fairly (exceptionally so during a sale, of course). Really challenging, technically impressive games, too.

Thanks. And to your question on the previous page about Endless Legend, I really like it. It's a gorgeous world, every faction is unique and the lore is great, and the combat and empire building are solid. There are of course annoyances and things that could be improved, and yeah there's no proper campaign (though each faction has their own quest which you can take up in each game), but overall Endless Legend is a really great 4X. I can't say how it stacks up to AoW3, but I find EL refreshing. It supposedly has good mod support also, but I haven't gotten around to trying any yet.

re: AoW3 vs EL

They're both great :D

Get AoW3 if you enjoy tactical combat, get EL if you enjoy strategic empire management.

AoW3 has an almost insane variety of classes, races, spells, units, equipment, abilities, terrain, etc. It makes for tons of engaging tactical combat, and the combat AI is actually very solid!

EL meanwhile has a wonderfully unique fantasy world, lots of mechanically distinct factions, and some pretty smart TBS design. Combat is just ok, some basic tactical stuff. It still has all the problems endemic to TBS design as well though - marginal strategic AI, snowballing victory, etc, but if you don't care about that, it's fine.

So if you're more of a Civ fan, EL, but if XCOM and the like get you excited, go for AoW3. AoW3 does have strategic level empire stuff, it's just less fleshed out than EL since the focus is on combat.

Uh, so I've got no other place to post this really but Hatoful Boyfriend gets really really dark. It's not at all what I was expecting, I was playing with my the girlfriend, and about halfway through unlocking endings things took a really crazy turn.

So, like 1/2 of the game is the usual campy visual novel (with birds), and then the other half turns into like a completely different game. I don't want to spoil it more but it's worth taking another look at, especially since it's $ 1.49 right now.

Both are great, but I enjoyed the story, mechanics, and world of New Vegas much more than 3.

If you can only get one, get NV. (But just get both)

Question about Dawn of Discovery/Anno 1404:

I know that TAGES has been removed, but is uPlay required? I saw some talk on the Steam forum for the game about uPlay not being apart of it but I just want to make sure before I buy.

So I'm seriously fighting the urge to buy:

Heroes of a Broken Age $7.50
Dungeonmans $10
Unity of Command $4.50
Eador: Masters of the Broken World $4
Vulture for Nethack $2.

But... I'm already over budget, and this puts me ridiculously over budget. Yet I feel like the first two sound perfect for me, so I should splurge/support them. Vulture is a given, since I love nethack. And the other two sound fun and are the cheapest.

Any fors or againsts?

Guys, there are a bunch of games I'm on the edge on but just can't seem to pull the trigger on. Either the discount isn't steep enough/base price is too high/not sure I'd like it/not sure I'd even play it/I'd rather play it on a the PS4. Amongst these games, are there any that you'd STRONGLY recommend?

The Talos Principle
This War of Mine
The Evil Within
Wolfenstein: The New Order
Ori and the Blind Forest
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
Ryse: Son of Rome
The Stanley Parable
