Steam Summer Sales Thread: remember: you can actually play after buying

Well I don't think there's anything for me today. Torchlight is very tempting, but my better judgment says I won't play it so stay away. Even if it is only $3.

The collector's side of my personality has me questioning my previous statements. Torchlight? Should I?

Is K&L 2 co-op worth it for 5 bucks? I'm looking to boost up my library with co-op games, but i haven't even played the first 1 K&L besides the demo.

If you don't mind a 2-4 hour co-op campaign for $5, then go for it.

I imported mine for 20 bucks from Ozgameshop ages ago, and registered it on Steam.

Despite the no dedicated servers, Heart beat sensors, quick scopers, Stopping power, Commando perk, deathsteaks, predator missles, kill streaks counting towards other kill streaks, hackers; the game is still better than Black Ops multiplayer.

MW2 was fustrating but at least it was fun.
Hahaha, yea right. MW2 is 10x ad frustrating as Black Ops. and Black Ops. is still fun as hell.

For the Defense Grid ticket.

Out of Fuel:

Start with this
Then add a laser on the top left
2 lasers at the right
3 meteors behind the tesla/temporal
Upgrade, begin with Tesla and Temporal

Barriers Entry
http://i53.tinypic.com/2eoi6fm.jpg
That first lane will kill almost everything. Add more towers (Tesla/some Laser) on the right side of the map. If aliens can get to the cores, block passage so that they will have go down the ramp

Veil of Ice
http://i55.tinypic.com/2mezakg.jpg
Tricky one to show, does if you start with this you'll be good. Upgrade those towers and add some more. If aliens are getting near the cores, try to block the direct passage and sent them towards those towers you built in the first wave. Dont forget to put two missiles towers near the cores, upgrade at least one

Guardians Fall (last map)
Basically: put teslas in areas adjacent to the path and lasers in the toher areas, and some meteors when you dont have line of sight

I forgot the square near the cores: I used
Tesla - Temporal
Tesla - Tesla

Sort of OT, but did anyone else who bought the "Ben There Dan That + Time Gentlemen, Please!" have trouble running BTDT? TGP runs just fine, but BTDT is odd. The mouse freezes up meaning I can't even click NEW GAME. I actually managed it once, but it seems like the framerate is in the single digits.

I'm on Win 7 so I don't know if that is the problem.

For those using a Dualshock 3 via Motionjoy on Steam can you give me the button configuration? I'm trying to use it on Darksiders but the camera control is mapped to the R2 button. It would take a long time to map all the buttons correctly if I were to do the trial and error method.

It works fine on my PC, and I'm also on Windows 7.

Are you running it on windowed mode or something? I've read about an issue in which there's no cursor at all. Not exactly the same problem, but you could try the suggestion given in that link.

A passionate embrace, a beautiful memory lingers.
Now I suddenly want that Magic the Gathering game and I've never played a magic card/game before.

hopefully it goes on sale again.

Game any good?

Ahhhh that was awesome. Had to use Ogmo for 4-11x but Meat Boy for everything else.

So far -

Aquaria
Bioshock / Bioshock 2 (pack)
Braid
Broken Sword collection
BIT TRIP RUNNER
Geometry Wars
The Longest Journey + Dreamfall (pack)
Medal of Honor

12 games total £35.
Promised myself I won't spend more than £60 total. The hope is that this lot will tide me over until the christmas sale and that aside from one or two PS3 exclusives I won't need to buy any more games for the next six months.

Spectromancer is also on sale. The whole shibang for $4.99.

Any US Gaffer looking to get Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition?

I could gift it for you if you'd gift me Drakensang: River of Time afterwards. You'd be doing me a huge favor, since that game isn't even available in Europe. :(

Tried both Windowed and Full Screen modes, but I couldnt get it working. Thanks for the link. I'll try that.

So, is it weird that I actually like Garshasp more than God of War so far?

I honestly can't imagine you sustaining this opinion after a lengthier play session since Garshasp essentially is a slightly off God of War clone.

how do i recommend a game to a friend? i just did another game recommendation/review but didnt get the point yet.

I had to write a recommendation for a game I hadn't previously recommended.

I'm telling myself not to get more than one game per day for the rest of the sale. (Hopefully less per day...)

Can't decide on AC2 or Dragon Age: Origins though.

Get both! Do it!

Both are a steal at those prices (at least that's what I told myself earlier today :p).

I wouldn't recommend Torchlight to anyone who hasn't played Diablo or similar games and knows they enjoy the genre. I bought it blind and was bored to tears. All you do is click your way through almost identical environments clicking on almost identical enemies until they die and you get some new equipment. It's a repetitive click-fest with no incentive to keep you going whatsoever. So make sure you're really into loot-grinds before you proceed.

How can anyone actually enjoy Garshasp? I got to the point where you get the achievement and couldn't stand to play much more of it.

How is Torchlight, if I'm not the biggest fan of hack&slash games around? I want to give it another chance since Jamestown revived my interest in shmups, this could do the same.

Wow reading through this thread has introduced a TON of new people to the Steam thread and it's shocking how different people react to games.

For example Men of War and Torchlight are extremely great, awesome games and no you don't need 'caution' to proceed.

Buy that shit now.

I had never played an ARPG before Torchlight. It was because of Runic's little game that I found out this whole new genre of games. It served as my gateway drug to Diablo II and Titan Quest. If you really boil it down, that's what all RPGs are. You grind for experience until you get better equipment.

Edit: Also, there is a Torchlight demo. People who have never played these types of games before you download the demo and see if it's something they are interested in.

Always hard to recommend a game in any genre to someone who starts off by saying they're not a fan of the genre, but the game is pretty easy (particularly on lower difficulties) and very very accessible. Also because the game encourages passive skills, you have to manage comparably fewer active / hotkeyed skills than other loot games.

I sadly feel the same way. Was a big fan of Diablo, but so much is lost with multiplayer missing.

Yeah, even as a fan of the genre, I don't understand the love the game gets. Titan Quest or even the Sacred games are a 100 times better, IMO.

The love the game gets is based entirely around the game being very fun and filling a niche, and also the developers are great, make a good product for cheap, and were some of the original D2 ppl.

I had never played a Diablo-type game before Torchlight and I enjoyed it enough. By the time I got to the end boss I was ready to be done with it, but it was definitely worth the $5 I paid. It's worth a punt, I can't imagine anyone will play Torchlight and downright hate it.

This! I believe Runic is the spiritual successor to Blizzard North. I want the company to be very successful because some of the people at Runic are the same guys that made the decisions that made Diablo II a hit. Furthermore, I think if there is ever a Torchlight III, they have a better shot of making that a better product than Diablo III - There I said it.
