Hmmm, since Activision's entire catalog is on Sale, Geometry Wars is only $2.67. I've only played the sequel so I have no reason to pass.

Bam.

Regarding this advice:
THE RULES OF STEAM SALES
If it is not a daily deal, do not buy. Wait until the last day for all sale-long purchases, because they often will go on daily deal.
Does it also apply to Publisher's Packs? or are the prices of games included in those packs are as good as they'll get?

Yeah - the second best time of the Steam Calander is finally here, time for some deals.

Today - BIT.TRIP.RUNNER + Medal of Honour

My backlog is just getting bigger, sigh.

I really don't know why GAF is hyped over Bloodlines, it looks like an old bad generic game, from the past that everyone loved, essentially a cult following. I wouldn't even buy it for $5, or someone would need to convince me so much so.

i asked about this a month or two ago in the steam thread and everyone basically said that it was a poop version of the game.

Unless there's a daily deal on every game in the pack, generally the pack will be the best value. If it's close b/w only games you want individually and the pack, then wait. It's only a week :)

Good, but why has it changed? A pricing error or are they doing hourly deals or something?
Yea, the steam store always has errors when a big sale is going up. Sometimes during just normal days also which is rare. the new SF was up for discount for like 20 minutes and it isn't out until Tuesday. some got it for $26.

The treasure hunt hat required waaay more effort than the shades, but they probably will be worth something afterwards.

The sequel obviously has way more "game" than the first one, but there's something to be said for score-chasing in GeoWars1 over and over and over again. There's a bit less of the random element, and not having to chase after the multiplier crystals is preferable in my opinion. It's more distilled to pure gaming, if that makes sense. One of my favorite games of the generation :D

Oh, and I hope you have a controller handy.

Maybe 'poop' in comparison to GeoWars2, but as far as PC games go GeoWars1 is rock solid. Better than the 360 version, absolutely.

I don't think the sunglasses are going to be worth much. It will be like the bounty hat.

Pretty much. It's "Retro Evolved", basically meaning it's similar to the single retro mode in Geometry Wars 2 on XBLA... ie. 1/6th (or 8th) of the total game.

Looks vs Play...

Huge difference

No, it only applies to individual games. You are not going to get the publisher packs cheaper.

And if you don't have many of the games, those publisher packs are a GREAT deal. I highly recommend the Eidos, THQ, Rockstar, Telltale, and Valve ones.

PopCap trolls . . . their 'complete' pack is not complete and they ask for $75 for their collection of lightweight casual games.
But if you love PopCap games and don't have these on PC it is still a decent deal. Several are SteamPlay.

Are there going to be more packs or it's just going to be more daily deals from now on?
It is possible for packs to appear in the daily deals. I would be kinda surprised if no Indie packs show up in daily deals.

Nothing bought yet, but this got me to install Lead & Gold again. Was pretty fun the week it went on sale earlier.

This. Really get the Square Enix one. Tomb Raider + Hitman + Just Cause. Hell, Just Cause 2 is worth the 75$ alone.

That's too bad, but I won't lose any sleep over spending $2.67 for a slice of GeoWars gameplay.

Just found a pack I haven't seen anyone discussing yet:

Paradox Fantasy Pack - $8
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/8675/?snr=1_4_4__106_2
Majesty, Majesty 2, Elven Legacy, plus all DLC and expansions for these games.

I was originally just going to by Majesty 2 for $6.69 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/25980/), but that's when I saw the pack. $1.20 more for two more full games + a bunch of expansions... can't say no to that!

Edit: This pack is 84% off, meaning it's CHEAPER to buy this than the Elvan Legacy bundle alone... I wonder if the pricing is an error?

Nice find. Probably my first casualty of the sale.

It's a Troika game. Of course it has a cult following. It's not everyones cup of tea.

In general I think that if Valve could figure out a way to do the "Will this play on my computer? If so, how well? Convey it to me very simply" user interaction, that would be amazing and one of the last frontiers to really making Steam a console-like experience in terms of accessibility.

Imagine going to a game's page and getting:
RED CARD - This game does not play on your current computer due to VIDEO MEMORY
YELLOW CARD - Your saved computer "home gaming rig" will be able to play this game on medium settings. Upgrading your VIDEO CARD would result in higher performance.
NOTE - Some users report difficulty with running the game under Windows 7
UPDATE - We've detected your ATI Radeon drivers are out of date. Updating drivers are associated with a 10-12 FPS improvement for this game for many users.

with simply, easily visually accessible icons, and automatic detection of hardware, drivers, and bottlenecks for the particular game.

Even if it was an opt-in feature which required companies to submit their specs or some diagnostic information, or even if it relied on user feedback aggregation, I think it would be amazing.

They should just rip-off canyourunit.com with its simple pass/fail meter between minimum and recommended specs.

Last time i'm gonna listen to advise from GAF.

Seems like the ticket from joining the Summer Group Camp doesn't count to grand prize giveaway. I checked my profile, and it is missing one ticket.

Borderlands has been downloading for three hours now at around 1.5 MB/s average and I'm only 58% there. How big is this shit? Or are the servers dying when I'm not looking?

Great idea, but your particular description would be WAY too complicated for most people.

Something more simple, like "Yes" or "No", and it will not allow you to buy the game if your computer can't play it (you can turn it off of course).

In my Steam profile the one for joining the group is the ONLY one showing. I think there's just some lag updating the community pages.

The odd thing is Steam does have a built in check for system requirements, but the user interface doesn't show it at all.

For example, this will tell you with a simple yes or no if your computer will run TF2.

Last question before buying MoH...

Is it worth it for £6?
I really want the BF3 beta too but i guess you can snatch a key from somewhere nearer the beta date anyway...

wtf how is the BEAT achievement easy? I'm 10 hours in the game and still didn't beat crap perfect :(

It's easy, but I didn't get it till just now either.

I've found the game is a lot easier if you roll away from the monitor a couple feet. I was a good five feet and found that made the quick jumpy movements towards the end a whole lot easier on the old brain.

Mine is giving me 1 ticket towards the grand prize giveaway and the one from the group is only the only ticket I've got. So probably what Orellio said.

Well I'm just speculating, but I imagine given it had a certain discount prepared it's going to be that price some point during the sale, they just put the wrong price up first.

I was really on the fence about it but decided against it. After reading some Metacritic reviews I figured I could just go back to one of the CoD campaigns or BC2 if I want my military shooter fix. But to each his own.

Edit: Actually this thread turned me off but Metacritic didn't help either.
